Why do people have to be so rude and judge someone for liking/not liking something? Why is it if someone doesn't like something then people who think of them as weird act as if their superior? Why do they still bash them when they've done nothing but simply discuss their comforts and discomforts? Honestly I'm not talking about the ones who judge silently and express their opinions on that person. I'm talking about the ones who think of themselves as more superior because they think they're right. I'm talking about the ones who judge you down to your very core and tell you that you CAN'T like this or that. The ones that judge automatically by just looking at them or their social class and tell them that they can't like/dislike something. As if they can't have feelings or emotions. The ones that people call selfish for not fitting or wanting to fit in a certain social standard. Why do we have to be so disgusting when we are all different but the same? Obviously, I know the answer to this but what's your take on this? Discuss.

Superiority complex is an underlying inferiority complex. It's related to emotional intelligence. Not everyone can get over themselves.

@andreaverilia: Why would whether or not I have autism affect the fact that this thread may sound familiar to you. It has nothing to do with the question I'm asking. I get you're trying to be funny but what about this thread sounds autistic? It's a serious topic.

Are you talking about people who judge others for not liking something popular or people who judge others for liking something popular. If it's the first one, it's probably a mob mentality. I'll use Rick and Morty here, since it's an amazing show. Nearly everyone I know who watches the show thinks it's amazing, so it reinforces the idea in my head that the show is really good. My friend, however, thinks it's terrible, he thinks it's basically just edgy Futurama. The idea that Rick and Morty is a good show has been reinforced for me so much that someone telling me it's not feels like a personal attack.

As for the other one, Basil's not the best place for that question, half the people here are like that. Mention Undertale or Steven Universe, people just want to feel special because they don't like the popular thing. I don't like rap much, so when practically everyone I know started obsessively listening to Kendrick Lamar's new thing, I felt a weird sense of superiority in saying that I didn't like it. You feel superior because you think that others have foolishly fallen into some trap that you've avoided, but in most cases it's just that it just doesn't happen to appeal to you.

But I don't know, I'm not a psychologist.

Best I can come up is superiority complex or, you know how it feels to be above others right? it feels good, maybe it's guilty pleasure for others, or, simply ignorance.

We are just human beings. People desire social status and to be better than others. Its okay though. Just remember, no matter what people say to you do not codemn yourself for their reasoning. It is okay to have different opinions and sometimes people just think they are right. People have have their own beliefs. The truth is that you are you. People may judge you on your opinion but what other people think doesn't matter. People in different countries still get perscuted by their faith. If they believe in christ they get killed. So people end up lying about their faith just to live in this material world we live in. What I am trying to say is that however you feel, it is okay to meet these kind of people. People are like garbage trucks. They need someone to dump out all their garbage on. During those times of their rudness you simply just smile and let them speak. So in life its good to remember to be thankful for family and those who love you. And pray for those who may be "dumping their garbage" on others. Ok im done.

+1 I can relate to this. I have Asperger's, and I feel alienated from almost every sort of social setting and often times have difficulty with the proper wording of things, on top of being obsessed with very technical details related to subjects such as space exploration, trains, drums, guitar, music theory, anime, quantum physics, etc. While occasionally I am fortunate enough to meet people who are okay with this, more often it feels (at least from my perspective) that the majority of people I meet do not like me for this and, pertaining to the thesis of this topic, I feel that I am often treated as sub-human, and deemed to be rude, arrogant, selfish, etc.

Over time I have become accustomed to this, and in a sense emotionless as a response to such treatment, as I perceive it to be the norm, but inside I cannot help but feel that I have very little feeling of self worth. I feel rather inferior to every living thing, if that makes any sense. Nevertheless, I am still highly motivated in my endeavours and I thankful for everything I have in my life since many others are less fortunate. I may not ever be able to acquire sufficient mastery over social skills, but I try to view every obstacle as an opportunity instead.
