Wanton

Why can't we all just leave eachother alone and have tea together I think that's a splendid idea.

@iShottedSnow: Hiroshoma bomb was actually one of the weakest, and it was carried by a plane.(atomic bombs are much weaker but have a higher radiation level compared to more powerful hydrogen bombs we have now.

Yes, but having most of my family come from South Africa, it is a really unsafe place to live and there is bound to be some revolts among the black community against whites soon.

We don't make them, we trade guns and food for them from 'smarter' countries.
A nuke can blow up way more...WAY MORE than a city, i'm thinking around the size of rohde island, and i might be under estimating.
If korea shot a single one, the us military would go nuts and fire a dozen or so, to make a crater, that once was korea.
And yes, it is kind of like a domino effect, so i doubt someone would be stupid enough to set one off.

@myrdrex: in that case, we're screwed. Its moments like these that make me grateful that America spends a crud-ton on defense spending(despite the obvious flaws)
Unfortunately we're potentially more screwed that most people realize.

Iran's been practicing launching weapons from ships and doing high-altitude, not targeted detonations.

Their Shahab-3 test launches and successful high-altitude detonation gives them the capability to kill an estimated 90% of Americans with a SINGLE nuke launched from a container ship from international waters. We currently have NO defense against such an attack- we have no way of stopping the tens of thousands of container ships that are around our coast annually- any 1 of them can launch a missile.

How can a single nuke kill hundreds of millions you ask? Good question, with a scary answer- A single high-altitude detonation (as Iran's practiced) over the Midwest (you don't need to be specific) can potentially wipe out our entire power grid and destroy most electronics due to the EMP.

And don't forget- this isn't just the rantings of some conspiracy theorist- Iran has practiced high altitude detonations. There's 0 use for such a detonation other than an EMP.
In the blink of an eye we'd have no cars, trucks, electricity, means of transporting food, medicine, etc... We'd be back to pre-industrial level technology living off a land that can support roughly 10% of the current population when you take away the modern miracles of technology that allow us to farm.

You'd turn on the taps for your water and likely nothing would come out. You'd walk tot he grocery store to find nothing left, with no shipments coming.

It's called Asymmetric warfare and it's the single greatest threat that a small nation like Iran or N Korea poses. We've neglected to harden our electronic infrastructure from EMP for decades and now we're potentially vulnerable to a crippling attack.

90% is a bit extreme, but that's the upper-end death toll from a congressional study on an EMP attack on the US- one we've failed to prepare for. Remember, it's not a simple power outage due to a tree falling on the lines- it's the transformers and critical equipment being physically FRIED across the US. It's needing to wait YEARS to build the equipment overseas to slowly rebuild our power grid. And in the first months/years, starvation, riots, and chaos will claim the lives of countless millions.
You forgot one thing: Canada is a neighboring country to the US meaning we're most likely going to get affected unless you decide to live up in the northern territories.
Are the Northern Territories lovely this time of year?
The idea is in the concept of mutually guaranteed self-destruction. One goes off, as another poster said, a domino effect ensues destroying most of the world or until people just stop. Iran isn't going to do it, its hurting financially from all the sanctions, we're not going to do it, we value our lives to much.
tldr; this is just media hype, nothings going to happen so go back to mapling
That only works with rational, sane people. Despite Russia's flaws, they did at least have a rational side.

When you have irrational suicide bombers such as those people who could gain access to a nuke from Iran, all bets are off.

Russia+china+n.Korea, doesn't even stand close to the mass amount of controlled destruction the US obtains.
I could care less if maybe their better looking, and sure they are smarter, but in the end,
Brawn (total annihilation to any part of this planet at a push of a button) beats smarts (Super genious robot azns, with super computers and other craziness i can't wrap my noggin around)

Every country in the world has their boots filled with their own fecel,
From the OP amount of nukes the US has.
Unless if that country wants to become a giant hole in the earth,
i bet they won't be firing jack ship at us any time soon.
Just saying if anyone is worried.

If Iran dares to launch a nuke... the entire county is gonna get it up the ass. I doubt they would try it.
