It's quite fine actually, your just using a defense mechanism, sensory aversion. Just be careful with your headphones. Also it's best to deal with your fear head-on instead of averting, so try it few times without the music.
I'm afraid of roller coasters too.
If I listened to music, I'd be afraid of my headphones falling off.
Then I'd imagine being my headphones, falling hopelessly through such a big distance, while the headphones itself are so fragile and small.
Imagining that would just terrify me more.
To cope with my fear of rollercoasters, I don't go on them.
How, though? I'd be afraid of my headphones/ipod flying off.
