how tempest works

how does tempest work in general, does it still make monsters under the freeze die 1hko? or did they change it.
and also, how does it work against monsters in lhc? cause if theyre boss-like monsters, shouldnt they be recieving 4 hits? but i dont see that and my combo doesnt go up either.
help please
In dragon rider pq, tempest dosent kill the blue wyverns. no ice charge either.
Without Snow Charge, Tempest will still freeze the blue wyverns.
Unless they changed it in v1.08 or v1.09.

Are you quite sure you didn't have Snow Charge active?
any monster that isnt weak to ice will be frozen in place, killing them within the next hit.

On a boss it hits them 4 times for 700 something percent damage, idk havent played in a while.

@phoenix23, you always beat me to the aran threads </3
I would like to clarify -- Ice weakness or resistance has nothing to do with Tempest by itself.

Hold on...combo tempest isn't limited by the damage cap? I never knew that
ok, so then my next question is why doesnt tempest hit crockies (meaning i dont see numbers and my combo going up) when i cast it?
Unless there's some bug I don't know about, I covered that in my previous post.

You're welcome, btw. My pleasure. No worries. No problem. Any time.

Cryoflight's mini-guide to Combo Tempest
-=-=-=-=-

How to cast Combo Tempest:
With a combo count of at least 200, press Down-Side-Attack in a quick motion. Combo count will decrease to zero.

On monsters tagged as "bosses", including Party Play monsters:
Tempest does 4 x XXX% damage (based on skill level and damage range) on up to 15 monsters in a giant AoE (biggest AoE in the game AFAIK). Damage is not shown. Damage can surpass 999,999.

On regular monsters:
Tempest freezes up to 15 monsters. They are frozen for XX seconds (based on skill level). If anyone attacks a monster in such frozen state, the monster will take damage equivalent to their max HP. In some rare situations, such as in high level PQs, this can mean the monster takes over 999,999 damage.

Secondary effects:
When you use tempest, combo count increases up to 60 (if you hit 15 monsters). If you have an abnormal status placer on your weapon (e.g. 5% chance to cause level 2 blind), this may afflict monsters targeted by Tempest. "%Bonus damage to Bosses" still applies to Tempest's targets. Tempest does not trigger FA or AFA.
As a bonus, Tempest PASSIVELY boosts the damage done by Combo Judgment in a multiplicative way, based on skill level. I'm not sure if this includes the lingering DoT effect from Judgment.

When to use Tempest:
If you have maxed Tempest, it is very useful in training in high density maps (such as glitched LHC or Stronghold maps), and in many PQ's (such as DRPQ 1st stage).
Try not to use it unless you can see 15 monsters on your screen (with the high resolution setting). Remember, this way it will generate 60 combos on its own and you can instantly re-cast Tempest if you so choose (with the help of Recharge, of course), or just effectuate one OSFB or one Rolling Spin to get your combo back to over 100.
