why go to bed early on school nights?

what the hell is the point of going to bed earlier on school nights.
you still feel tired as hell either way and dont want to get up at 6 am or whatever no matter what time you go to bed.
you still feel the same or at least i do. so why waste your hours sleeping when you could be doing something else knowing you'll feel the same in the morning anyway.

You just feel tired if you wake up halfway through your sleep cycle. If you sleep at the correct times, you should feel a lot better when you wake up.

Agreed, all throughout high school I went to bed at 4am - 5am and would just sleep when I got home from school.

In university my schedule isn't too demanding so it's not too bad, my earliest classes don't start until like 11am.

You feel less tired obviously and you'll have more energy to do stuff. You get pains (stomach and headaches) if you get less sleep. If you're overly tired, key parts of your brain are asleep so you'll do terrible on tests and such.

The nights I only get 3-4 hours of sleep, I come home and immediately crash on the couch. Nights that I get 6 or so hours, I can usually prolong napping by a couple of hours and some cases, going to bed at midnight or 1.

I'm quite the opposite and rather run on 3-5 hours of sleep.
I can't handle having 8hours of sleep or else I get drowsy...
@MrAhri Yep. Just a waste of time, and it's easier to get back into it when it's not made.

@Exumaii you actually fall asleep on the bus or car ride to school? wow. i try to shut my eyes etc. but i never actually fell asleep.

@ClementZ it doesn't matter to me. i can go to bed at 11 or 2. still don't feel like getting up in the morning.
Yeah. It helps that when my mom is driving me to school, it's dark outside. Plus, it's easy for me to fall asleep in the car most of the time.

Trust me, if you don't get enough sleep you really do feel the difference.
I stay up till like 4am on a regular basis and when I go to school I notice myself spacing out and have to try a lot harder to focus, I usually end up passing out in class and lastly if you don't get enough sleep you won't grow as much (I'm 6'3" so I'm not really concerned with this).

@Wintermelon no you just feel like crap, I slept for like 13 hours straight woke up to eat and use the bathroom and went back to sleep for another 8 hours after 64 hours w/o sleep.
EDIT: Read your other post, and I did look it up, it's actually pretty interesting and makes a lot of sense.

@Brohmguardian: I know it's wrong but I just don't feel any difference from 10 to 12. But i'm sure if it was later i would notice.

There's a huge difference over the long run in getting enough sleep vs. not enough.

Sure at 6AM when you wake up you might feel just as sleepy whether you slept 3 hours or 8. But over the course of days/weeks/months getting too little sleep will seriously negatively impact you.

Because not sleeping sucks
for me, going to bed at 1 or 2 versus 10 makes me tired all day rather than just in the morning
I haven't been gettig enough sleep recently
it sucks.

IMO:

Getting more sleep means you're generally more rested. When you first wake up you might feel tired, but that may just be because you've been woken up out of a deep sleep. (I remember reading somewhere about different phases of your sleep cycle.. there's like four I believe, like light sleep and deeper sleep and then really deep sleep when you go sleepwalking and stuff and don't realize it, etc.)

If you only get five or six hours then you'll feel really crappy and fall asleep during school and it would be fairly useless even going to school because you won't remember anything or learn anything in a sleep deprived state.

@Wintermelon i'm not talking about no sleep. i'm just saying instead of going to bed around 11 and waking up at 6 might as well go to sleep later.

@Joaquinkun: idk, it's been proven many times and the estimate is usually 3 days. google "how long can you go without sleep"

So your body is more strong.. proper growth, etc. Also while sleeping it allows the body to regenerate, the more sleep the better(don't go overboard though... also the recommended 8 hours is the best). Here's your legit answer

I don't go to sleep early. My mom says go at 9:00, so when my mom goes to sleep I get on my iPod and Kindle Fire and go between 10pm and 11pm. Have to wake up at about 5:15, so I get around 6 hours of sleep, but take a nap on the way to school (~30 minutes) and way home (~45 minutes).

I feel absolutely fantastic when I actually get enough sleep.
But, I never get to since I have to get up at 4:30am and I'm constantly doing things after school. No way in hell can I finish my day at 8:30 to get 8 hours of sleep.

Well in your schooling years, it's arguably the time when you grow the most, so more sleep will accommodate that phenomenon.

>still feel tired either way

no you don't.
I don't anyway.
Going to sleep at 22:00 and waking up at 05:45 is a lot better for me than going to sleep at 01:00 and waking up at 05:45
