Any Ivy League Hopefuls here?

I want to go to Yale myself. Currently, I'm in Grade 11 with a 96 average (Unweighted), and have a 2380 on the SATs.

If I don't get into Yale, then I want to go to John Hopkins, which I think I'll probably get into if I tried, and if I don't, then I'll probably go to McGills in Canada, which is regarded as one of the best schools that prepare students for Medical School in the world, and one of the best in Canada.

What about you guys?

How are the essays coming along/will come along guys?

I'm still deciding on what my topic should be. Got plenty of time though.

Keep that up.

I had a 4.00 GPA Unweighted in my freshmen year 1st Semester (Go to a semester-ed school), but next semester, I got a 3.80. So don't be like me.xD Luckily, I got a 4.00 GPA every other semester so far.

Does it matter? You can not go to medical school unless you finish your undergrad first.
For all of you Ivy League appliers, go to college confidential.

It's this site where all these smart students come together and talk about SATs, ACTs, APs, and college admissions.
And when I mean smart, I mean super smart. There are lots of 2400 scorers, 36ers, 5 x 10s, and people who are planning to go to or have gotten into top universities.
Thank you!

Go for Harvard man... My sister is a freshman at Harvard! She got deferred from Yale and then she didn't get in.

MY GPA is dece and my ECs are really good considering my area. I got deferred from John's Hopkins EC and have an interview with an alumi from Yale this week. (Doubt I'll get in but worth a shot)
The Yale alumni interviews are great, don't be nervous. They're really kind and open, it's not as formal as one might expect. Best of luck to you as well.

@cb000: I would never consider any field besides physics. I love it entirely too much! Well, Fermilab in Illinois is not outdated. While it may not be as up-to-speed as LHC at CERN, (I think they're up to 3.5 TeV? Not quite sure on the exact speed of the beams) they still are doing some fantastic research there.
In addition, Argonne National Laboratory, while not so much acceleration particle physics, also has some amazing research. I like their work with the Advanced Photon Source. Also, the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics has some great research opportunities for undergrad students majoring in physics to learn at Brookhaven National Lab.
@Icemango: Thank you very much, kind sir! Approximately three months to go.
@squaids: Oh, that's positively horrid. I'm sorry you or your friends didn't like physics much I suppose it isn't for everyone, but that's the exciting part! Not knowing what you're going to do for certain is part of the adventure
@zoingy: Congrats! Penn is awesome, I'm also applying there. I was considering applying ED, but I decided against it. Did you receive any housing information yet?

Yeah, I had a low freshmen average too. (92 percent.)

Currently a senior, finished all my applications about one month ago.
I really like Yale, Princeton, Brown, and Cornell. I have a partial legacy at Yale and Princeton... I think. (Grandfather, Cousin).
In terms of schools that are not Ivies but are still amazing beyond words, I love MIT, CalTech, and Johns Hopkins. My father received his Ph D in physics from MIT.
There's one more school that I really love, but I don't tell anyone about it because I don't want them applying there :x It sounds rather horrid when I say it like that, though.

I would like to study astrophysics or particle physics, ultimately getting a Ph D.
2350 SAT, 35 ACT. 3.94 unweighted GPA (Gah, freshman year). Ten AP classes, self studying for three more. Ranked 3/325ish. (SO CLOSE >:[ )
I'm in leadership positions for many clubs/organizations for my school, I tutor middle school students three days a week in math and science.
Hmm... what else. Internships at technology companies and particle labs.
I'm losing my mind slowly because of how much I have been stressing out. My teachers and counselors wrote fantastic recommendations and they adored my essays, but everyone that applies to these schools are amazing as well. It's become so competitive! I just want April to be here so that I can know for sure.
I applied EA to MIT and was deferred, but I was given another interview (I've had 6 interviews with them now: 2 with admissions, 4 with professors). I was accepted to University of Michigan EA though, which is nice.
Yay, another potential physics major! =D
But I think for particle physics research you'll be going to Europe, since the US only has outdated accelerators. I learned of this horrible fact during my tour at Cornell's accelerator. =(

College is frightening to me...
I don't think I have a big chance of getting into anywhere since my grades will probably be terrible (I'm a huge slacker) and I'm not into anything extracurricular and tend to avoid stuff like that in general.
I'm going to fail. -sigh-
Physics is an under-subscribed course though, I think astrophysics was the second least popular branch after theoretical physics which barely anyone actually sticks through with.... I doubt it would be detrimental to your chances if people knew where else you applied..
While this may be true, the other school I've applied to has many people in the field of physics. It's only that the class size is rather small, and that they've already received so many applications that scares me.
It's a shame that so few people stick with physics.

I didn't get into an Ivy. I instead got into Colgate, lib arts school.

I'm ok with it.

Pretty decent:
Completed the school Yearbook entirely on my own for all 4 years.
President of the Green Team
President of the Chess Club. I have various Provincial Awards, and I may go to the National Chess Championship this year.
Student Council Prime Minister (Next Year)
Student Council Grade 9 Rep
Student Council (Regular member) Grade 10 and 11
Key Club (3 years. It wasn't made in my Grade 9 year...)
Peer Tutor
Senior Leader for Freshmen
Taught Grade School Kids how to play Chess
Local Aids Awareness Committee

Yeah, it's always University of Toronto and McGills duking it out for top spot in Canada. However, in terms of pre-medicine programs, McGills is better. Though there are areas U of T utterly destroys McGills in aswell.

The strange thing is, on a website dedicated to College Acceptance, people post their application, and later their application results. People with high marks and averages don't get in, and people with lower marks (Ie low 90's) get in instead.

Must be their extra curriculars or hooks. I myself have a hook: Low Income, and I'm an Under Represented Minority (Hispanic.)
