@aznseal: Lol in that situation a police officer wouldn't be justified in drawing his gun. So why should a random civilian?
That's not what the article says. The citizen, Williams, wasn't the one who said he wasn't interested in discussing politics; the veteran, Rodriguez, said that to police. The article doesn't say who escalated the situation either.
Oops misread.
The chain of events
1. Veteran disagrees with citizen's bumper sticker
2. Veteran approaches the citizen and says "people like you should be shot"
3. Citizen says "I don't want to discuss politics"
4. Veteran escalates the situation into a physical conflict
5. Citizen has concealed weapon license and pulls out gun to de-escalate the conflict until police arrive
I don't see how it's wrong to pull out a gun if someone says "people like you should be shot" and starts a physical fight with me.

If you pull out your gun it is because you have decided to shoot, are ready to shoot. Unless it is justified by the law... which in some states it is... he should be arrested as he was. Perhaps if the veteran had a knife, or a gun as he suggested he would have been justified in his response.
But he had a legitimate reason to feel like his life was threatened.
@Singuy: And why exactly would someone want a gun in the first place?.
To defend themselves from people who threaten them and thinks 'they should be killed'. Looking buff also does not compare with a trained war veteran or pro fighter.
@Singuy: And why exactly would someone want a gun in the first place? Either because they like power, or they want to protect themselves.
And that guy looks pretty buff, so I doubt it's to protect himself.
Oh yeah, the person who took out a gun and pushed a war veteran could not have possibly started the fight.
Actually the one with the gun does not have the merit to start a fight. Think about it, the gun owner has no reason to be the initial aggressor since he holds more power/influence over a non gun owner in that situation.
Are you really so left winged that you have to assume that everyone with a gun is out for a fight?
The guy took out the gun in response to the physical altercation. There's no telling what weapons a crazy veteran [i]might/[i] have on him, especially when he tries to start pineapple.
I actually don't care too much, I just picked a side.
Arguing is so much fun, don't you agree?
And did the guy even know that he was a veteran in the first place? I wonder if the article added that in to make it sound more interesting.
Yes, because it can be implied that the person who said "I don't want to discuss politics" obviously started the fight against someone who said "yo people like you should be shot herp derp"

>People like you Should be shot
How is that any different than him being insulted by the obama sticker.
He's simply stating his dislike towards the citizen's opinion.
It doesn't say who started the "brief shoving match"
this is why politics in general are retarded
