1) I'm pretty sure he's referring o the character portrait of Aran. Of course, then there's the fact that Aran has no established canonical gender...
2) You're one of the stronger classes unfunded (20% free boss damage and lots of free % damage), you're just grossly hindered by the damage cap.

I don't think it's relevant to the new contents but I'm not sure since the first time I made an Aran was back when they first came out for KMS
