Oct 22 2014 I created a base that I would be able to use to make the avatars of other players. This is a test of it using my character. Still a lot of things to add in the ways of re-meshing and texturing

Yay Blender! I didn't know they were still updating it...looks spiffy compared to what I used years ago.

Looking forward to the finished project here.

+2 @JetlagJag
@ShiraokaJinja

Blender is actually one of the current best programs for 3d design. They surpassed the Autodesk equivalent a bit over a year ago, which was kind of surprising to find out.

@sparksta I wish.

Edit: wow, my work in progress made it to the front page.

I used the top 4th of a sphere and extruded downwards where needed until it covered the back

the bangs were individually ripped and extruded downwards. I did this using an x mirror to start, but turned it off when it came time to turn the bangs sideways. I am probably going to redo the hair before I call it done. This was a very quickly done hair model and is a bit higher polly than I would like it to be. I can post some screenshots of topology if you would like.

@Voxous: yeah topology would be nice! when you're done i guess
waiiit so you take the top 4th of a sphere that is a seperate polygon then just lower it onto the head, and just combine it with the rest of the model after doing the bangs n stuff? (i use maya tho so i hope the terminology is the same)

@juni I could combine it, but I am keeping it as a separate mesh and rigging it to the head bone for the same visual effect. In doing this, I can create multiple hair styles and toggle their visibility as needed.

Spheres are kind of a cheep way out. I plan to replace it using a method similar to this.

Also, blender did pass Maya in terms features, workflow, and stability a few years ago. I would recommend trying it. It is fairly easy to learn compared to autodesk software, and it doesn't chug resources. There is also the bit about blender being open source software and maya now being subscription based .
