6 divided by 2 times the value of 1 plus 2
6/2(1+2)
I just lost a friendship with 3 people because of this problem.
THE ANSWER IS 9. WHAT THE HELL?
EDIT: Ignore the title. i'm bad at wording out problems.

If you propose this problem to any mathematician beyond a certain level in the ambiguous format you've given it, then they will generally say 1. Why? Because this is what they will think:
6 --------
2(1+2)
However the thread title implies 9 as multiplying the (6/2) by the value of (1+2) is 9.... so im presuming you mean (6/2)*(1+2)
OP clearly did not say
6 ------
2(1+2)
he said 6/2(1+2)
it is implied that it means (6/2)(1+2) which is 9.
People who say it's
6 ------ ARE CHEATING! HE DID NOT PUT IT LIKE THIS
2(1+2)
anyway, thread title = 5 LOL
@Kreyni:
The 6 doesn't go on top. According to (P)BEDMAS, division and multiplication are done in the order that they appear. That means you do the 6/2 before the 2(3).
TIL that Basilers don't know how to use PEDMAS correctly..
The answer is 9.
6/2(1+2)
6/2(3)
3(3)
9
Am I mistaken somewhere? I got 9 o-o
2(1+2) = 2*(1+2)

Gets serious when someone calls you an idiot than cusses you out.
I wasn't saying he was wrong. I got 6, as well. I was going to edit my post and say i got 6 but basil was being laggy and lame so i wandered off.
How the hell did you and @Snovvy get 6? Lmao
There's no parentheses around the "2(1+2)" so you're only assuming that the entire thing is in the denominator. He's actually right, unless you write it as 6/[2(1+2)], the answer is 9.
Thank you.
People are justifying the answer 1 with the distributive property. Wut?
