What I find amazing is that so many Asians talk nothing but trash about rap, hip-hop, & R&B only to then, turn right around, and praise the Korean versions of this exact same type of music. You can call it K-pop or Asian hip hop or w/e else you like, but at the end of the day, it's the Korean equivalent of the exact same American thing. I'm not dissing Asian music. I'm saying that it's hypocritical to bash one while embracing the other, simply because it's in a different language. For every group, like 2ne1, BoA, etc, singing or rapping in Korean, there's an American original person or group, doing the same, almost identical thing, sometimes down to the identical bar & rhythmic count and melody, and doing it first, in English.

Before you flamers come in losing your minds and making up umpteen excuses, I have no problem with your music, or anyone's music for that matter. It's the hypocrisy that gets to me. "Rap sucks","Nobody likes that cRap", etc, etc, etc., when in reality, if it weren't for those musicians in the streets of America during the late 60's on into the 70's, 80's, & 90's, the whole Asian genre of the exact same style music wouldn't even exist.

I guess I see it as more a disrespect to those in the pop, hip-hop, rap, & R&B industry that brought you these styles more than anything. I just don't get why. Why bash one only to listen to the other, when one is the offspring of another. It's like sitting around bashing electronic & trance, and then turning around and cranking up the dubstep while telling everyone how original and awesome it is as a genre.

Just thought I'd point out the hypocrisy, but go ahead. Flame. Tell me how I'm wrong and how it's different, or how much you like rap & R&B, or how no one on this site ever says any of that, especially not you, and... >.>
The only problem I have with your post is that you only mentioned Asians. Ironically, no one in any of my classes except for the girls and one or two guys like Kpop. And not all the girls are Asian (Btw it's a school with over 90% Asians). Kpop is a thing that's slowly growing in popularity like anime and Bollywood or whatever the hell it is. People are hearing about it through the internet (especially youtube and facebook).
As for the rest... you already know.

Yah I get where you're coming from but really I don't like hip hop, rap, or rnb that much. I prefer indie, folk, and alternative rock... Why do I like kpop? Idk, I guess their image captured my attention. It's just a new look and image and something I'm not used to seeing. I know the lyrics could equally be as disturbing, beautiful, genius, etc as the ones coming from American artists but I think as a musician it should come as a package. This is just my opinion lol DunT h8

It's a joke... Notice the <3. Anyways not all of them are famous.... so they aren't really all mainstream. Just because you make it to one of those entertainment groups doesn't mean you're mainstream famous.

Every artists from Cube, SM, Mnet, DSP, and YG are mainstream.
You are famous the moment you joined these labels. It was that moment when EXO has as much overseas fan base as SuJu overnight.
__________
My favourite company is SM. They had the best singers. YG is kinda cheesy with their hip hop style but they got Wheesung back in the days and he was really good. Now YG is going into pop because that's what sells. Lee Hi is good tho.
The only Korean group I listened to used to be Epik High (back in 2008). They introduced me to a lot of great artists like Na Yoon Kwon, Clazziquai Project, Casker, and Loveholic before it was cool (hipster glasses: on).

At the same time you should be bashing the people saying kpop sucks then too. I don't know about you, but I don't judge people on what music they listen to. Personally I have my own kind I listen to. To each their own as they say. I like classical piano too. Some people don't like it, but I do. Every one has their own tastes. The only reason I would ever say a type of music sucks is simply if someone wants to be a noob and start calling my sort of music sucky. Personally I think that's probably why most people say other types of music sucks. It's because everyones bashing one type of music so people find other outlets to bash at i.e. rap etc. If you like it, cool. End of story. I don't care what others like. However, don't be a hypocrite and not bash others for saying kpop sucks as well because kpop can also influence what types of music is made elsewhere.
