If your friend can afford to give you those items he can afford to give you the Dex increasing items needed. 166 Dex from equipment is relatively easy if you know where to look; Jewel Crafting alone can get you to 100 or so without much effort, not including any potential. By the time someone can afford the Empress set they can easily afford to buy the Dex increasing items to equip it.

It's hard to equip items like the 140 set.
For me, I have 30 base dex. If you're semi-funded 30 is good, I can even put on Empress stuff
But if you're really funded 20 base.
And if you're not. 35-40 is the MAX you should have.

Or Nexon gave out a free full AP reset that allowed everyone to drop their base (secondary) stat to 4 and probably will again sometime later.

If you choose to follow this trolls advice than I hope you make a Corsair, since their primary is Dex. A Buccaneer needs nothing like this, and pathetic trolling like this is honestly just showing incredibly immaturity, even for a troll.

THIEVES start with 25 Dex. Pirates begin with 20 Dex.
Keep 20 base Dex if you're not a UA, 4 base Dex if you're a UA. There's no need for more Dex with how easy equipment is to obtain right now, so just don't add any because it's pointless to do so.
Technically, cap it at 5 (this includes your Crusader Codex). Realistically, auto-assign at the beginning and then add STR for the rest.

Base Dex for pirate is 20. Keep it that way.
Leave it at 20 then get AP resets to get it to 4.
4 dex rest on str.
up to 23.
