The Assassin, Hermit, NL Bossing Guide

...

Introduction.

Hundreds of monsters roam the world of Maple, but very few are special enough to be declared bosses. If you find yourself an avid Star Thrower and are interested in preparing yourself in fighting these bosses, then this guide is for you!

This guide came as an idea from AkemiMegami (Pro NL is pro) and has been put up and still currently under the management of OrangeKing11 (Nub NL is nub). If you have any questions, feel free to PM them to OrangeKing11!

If any information is off or missing, feel free to contact OrangeKing11! I am grateful for any help on this guide!

How to Use.

This guide is pretty straight-forward, but here's a quick reference on how to use it.

Bosses will be organized by areas in which they roam (Table of Contents on the side shows their order).

Boss name and Level will be in its header. It is recommended that you be at the boss's level minus ten-fifteen at the minimum!
Pic: An image of the boss for your reference will be available.
A description of the boss and the fight will follow, describing the layout of the map, how to take on the boss, etc.

Location: Where to find the boss.
Summoned By/Spawn Time: How to summon the boss or how often it respawns.
HP Required: HP required to take on the boss.
Boss HP: How much HP the boss has.
Boss Exp: How much exp is rewarded when the boss is defeated (values are on 1x Exp and for solo)
PDRate: A measure of the boss's defense. Ignores the % of your output unless negated by potentials/skills.
KB: How much damage is needed to be dealt in order to KB the boss.
Super Drops! Drops to look for when fighting a boss.
Tips From the Pros: Tips from your fellow Sins, Hermits, and NLs!

Spirit of Rock [Lvl. 48]

A music-based monster, its attacks and abilities are based off what it plays on its guitar. This boss has a myraid of abilities. One attack sends a bolt of sound, sending you flying back if you get hit. The best way to deal with this is to let this boss corner you, that way if he hits you again with this attack, you'll still be in the corner and within range to continue attacking this boss. This boss is also able to cast Reflect, nulling your damage down to 1's and dealing 50's back to you as you hit it. This boss is also able to heal itself once it has under half its HP. Also able to summon various amplifier monsters. Remember to listen to the tune this boss plays as it dies if you're doing the Kerning City Square quests.

Snack Bar [Lvl.40 Snack Stand From is Lvl 80!]

Amidst the Dark Drakes at Sleepywood's Cave Exit, if you're lucky, you'll find a little snack bar that looks to offer many yummy foods. But in actuality, it's one of Victoria Island's stronger bosses! Once attacked, the shop will reveal its true form. This boss contains two very easy to avoid attacks. The first is when the fish head fires a laser beam from its mouth. This can easily be ducked by holding down unless you're on higher ground, then it's easier to jump over this attack. The next is a fist pound to the ground which inflacts damage to those close to this boss, and like similar attacks, can be avoided by jumping when the attack hits.

Be careful not to underestimate this boss, as it is much stronger than other bosses on Victoria Island. And remember, the ship does not allow the use of Flash Jump.

Ani [Lvl.70]

This boss is very commonly fought in the Prison Guard Invitational given out to Maplers Lvl 60+, but also has a free-spawning option. This boss has two attacks. The first is a bunch of flame columns rise from the ground, dealing a bit over 1,000 damage to players hit by it. The second is a puff of air from his mouth that deals only one damage, but drains the player of 1500 MP. Ani is able to cast a Super Defense effect which causes non-Critical hits to only Miss. The use of this is symbolized by an armor chestplate over his head. The invitational Ani can also Seduce players which causes them to jump constantly towards the right. The Prison Guard Invitational gives participants a thirty second cooldown on potion use, so use Drain when needed and make sure your MP is as full as possible. The invitational fight has two platforms, one (blue) that regenerates players to full HP and MP every minute and the second (blue) that gives players a 20 W. ATT/M. ATT (?) boost. Ranged players tend to like fighting Ani from these platforms to combat the potion cooldown. Both forms summon Prison Guard Boars and Prison Guard Rhinos that are pretty much meatshields with 241,000 and 296,000 HP respectively.

Location: Prison Guard Invitational, Rooftop of the Lion King Castle Towers
Summoned By/Spawn Time: Automatic in invitational. 2 hours (?) for free spawn

Snowman [Lvl.122]

A large Yeti wearing a Hector for a hat. This boss seems to be angered that an ice sculpture has been destroyed. This boss is quirky looking, and has quirky abilities to match. It can move around a bit more quickly that it can appear to, thanks to the skis, so it might run into you as you approach it. The Hector on top is able to throw snowballs as a mid-ranged attack. This boss can also generate a cloud of icy mist that deals damage over time as players sit in it. Snowman can also Stun if you're close to it, but it has no animation for this ability.

Riche [Lvl.135]

A monster who supposedly has icy cold breath, this boss used to be a bot-catching monster but now has been upgraded to the status of a 'Master Monster.' He spawns on the top right platform by himself, but can summon Coolie Zombies one at a time. This boss boasts a mid-ranged attack that deals a bit over 2,000 and touches for a bit over 3000. This boss also has some nasty curses and status ailments, Seal, Dispell, and Zombify. The platform gives a lot of space, but if things somehow get too scary, you can simply just climb down the rops on the platform for safety.

Location: Forest of Dead Trees IV
Summoned By/Spawn Time: 60 mins.

Zakum [Lvl.110]

This demonic tree is the most powerful boss in the El Nath area. It is suggested to start on the two arms in the middle left, then move onto all the arms on the right, and then finish the left. The arms, if you'd like, are easy to Drain for HP recovery. The "curse arm" is on the middle left, and it's able to cast Seal, Darkness, Weaken, and Curse. Pound away at the body's 3 forms and this boss will go down. This boss has a myriad of attacks and abilities, so be prepared for anything! The body is able to cast Super W. Def and Super M. Def, so if Super W. Def is up, use this time to kill off the mobs floating around if needed. The bodies attack with a lightning attack that deals about 2,200 damage which Seals and flame columns that Stun. The bodies also use a lot of 1/1'ing. Its body when fought can also summons large mobs, none of monsters really significant enough to actually ruin a party, they just get in the way. IF for some reason you get knocked into the bodies by the summoned mobs, the best thing to do is to go into Dark Sight! It's better to flash into Dark Sight and just pot in it against the 1/1's, flame columns, and lightning rather than to tank the touch damage of about 7,000. Of course, it's best to not get into this situation in the first place.

Some groups will allow attackers as low as Lvl 110, but most only go for Lvl 130+. This boss drops the Zakum Helmet praised by many and drops the Triple Throw Skillbook as well as the Lvl 20 Triple Throw Mastery Book.

Careful, this boss boasts a 50% PDRate, so prepare to see damage output that's much lower in comparison to most other monsters.
Location: Zakum's Altar

Tips From The Pros:
iProxD: A note for the epic achievers out there, it's possible to solo Zak COMPLETELY at about 130-140, where you'll need TT20, SC10 atleast, and MW10/20.
If you have a boss 30 claw, that speeds things up nicely, if you have SE, that would also speed things up nicely. Otherwise, Stews are an ideal replacement.
Overall, it doesn't take long to kill it, roughly about an hour and a half with a 10k range, Self-SE, MW20

Chaos Zakum [Lvl.140]

The tree from Hell returns much more powerful than before. Not only does the Chaos form have about eight times the HP as its original, but its powers have been amped greatly. All parts deal over three times as much damage as the originals.

Arm 1: Drains 3,000 MP. Able to cast Confusion and Dispells (80% rate for each)
Arm 2: Drains 5,000 MP. Able to cast Confusion (80% chance) and Dispells (100%)
Arm 3: Poison Mist increased to up to 2500 damage repeatedly
Arm 4: Casts "Burn" that deals continuous 1500 damage if the player moves him/herself with walking.
Arm 5: The "Curse Arm" has all of its curses, Seal, Darkness, Curse, and Weakness go up to 70% success rate as well as being able to Seduce up to 5 players at once.
Arm 6: Buffs buffed and healing goes up to 300,000 HP per heal
Arm 7: Just does more damage.
Arm 8: Also just does more damage.

Body 2: Can now Zombify and Potion Lock (locks potion use for 6 seconds). Can now also Dispell. Heals and has same Weapon Cancel and Magic Cancel time as Body 1.
Body 3: Same as Body 2.

Probably one of the toughest naturally spawning bosses , this gigantic fish can be found at The Cave of Pianus in Aqua Road. The right side version is a bit stronger, dealing a bit more damage and has more HP than the left side. Both sides have the same abilities. Both sides attack using a signature mouth laser and the ability to summon giant weights to come down onto players. It is also able to Seal and Dispell players, as well as summon Blood Booms to get in the way. It might actually be easiest to sit on the boss as you fight it with Dark Flare on.

So depending on the map where it spawns, the fight can be a little easier or a little harder because of the mob around when fighting this boss. It has the ability to Stun and Blind. Papulatus [Lvl.125]

The strongest boss of the Ludibrium, Omega Sector, and Korean Folk Town areas. When summoned, a Time Sphere appears. This is simply to keep out accidental entries by other players as you prepare to fight the boss. Simply deal 16,000 damage to it and it will release the first form of the boss.

The first form has many abilities to deal with. Almost every time, after being summoned, it will attempt to Dispell. This can be avoided by keeping your distance once it's summoned. Besides the ability to Dispell, other mid-ranged abilities include Stun and Slow. By consistently hitting its KB rate of 10,000, you can push Pap away and keep him far away enough so you can avoid these throughout the whole fight. Papulatus has a lightning attack which deals about 250 damage which has plenty of range. It also likes to go to sleep, preventing players from being able to damage it in this state. Before it sleeps, it casts a 1/1 skill represented by swords made out of light falling onto players. If this is avoided (with either Avoid/Shadow Shifter), a player is still able to pull off a few hits on Pap as it goes into sleep (Venom damage still applies to the sleeping state). Pap is also able to summon Star Bombs. The ones on the top platforms are able to deal nearly 2,000 damage when they explode. There's no real need to bother with those during the fight. The ones summoned on the bottom like to run around and get in your way. They like to chase after the player and explode on them for about 400 damage. If the top platform reaches the summoning limit of 15, then Pap will not be able to summon anymore on either top or bottom. He will simply just play the summoning animation, but no effect will happen. Pap is also able to heal itself and the Star Bombs.

The second form simply flies around and tries to kill you with its 2,000ish touch damage. Can easily be avoided by KB'ing the boss consistently or by jumping away as you attack it. Can be avoided by Dark Sight easily.

Location: Deep Inside the Clock Tower. Can only be entered twice within 24 hours.

MT-09 [Lvl.73]

The only boss monster of the Roswell Field series of monsters. This quirky looking boss only has one type of attack - it just fires large missiles at you. But since its range isn't amazing, it's easy to keep your distance, especially if you pin it to the left on the platform on which it spawns. If close, you can duck or jump over the missiles as they come easily.

Zeno [Lvl.78]

This so-called 'formidable opponent' spawns at Grey's Prarie in Omega Sector. This boss can be a bit scary to low levels who have wandered into his map, but he is not really difficult. He can somewhat be seen as a stronger version of Chief Gray in that he moves very slow and has a Star Shower attack which deals only about 900 damage. What is different is this boss has much more HP and has an attack where he slams his fist into the ground, where if a player gets hit, will receive about 900 damage as well as get pushed back a pretty good distance.

These three menacing bosses can be battled at Haunted House in Korean Folk Town. They are not a real threat if you just bring enough HP pots and watch your HP. They don't deal massive damage, but the Blins do get in the way. Take them out one-by-one or have a bit of fun and take on all three Goblin Kings at once!

Nine-Tailed Fox [Lvl.65]

This large white fox can be found at Moon Hill, a hidden-street off of Fox Ridge in Korean Folk Town. This boss can heal itself and the Samihos around it. It deals a M. Atk, but it's not so deadly. She can also cast Seal/Darkness, so bring All Cures unless you don't mind being in these status ailments for 10 seconds. The Samihos can hinder you a bit, their Curse can cut the exp you can get from this boss in half. Once defeated, this boss drops plenty of Samiho Tails and its Old Fox Tail, needed for the quest involving it. But just a note: After defeating this boss, if you're walking back to Korean Folk Town, you'll see that this Old Fox still has one more trick up her sleeve!

The great bear that is possessed by the dark magic of the King Sage Cat. This boss has two attacks. The first is when he charges up a sphere of electrical energy and attempts to fire it at you. The projectile moves quite slow, and his aim isn't the greatest, so dodging it should be easy. The next is an attack where he punches a fiery fist into the ground, causing damage to those close to him. If you get hit by it, you'll get pushed back a great distance. This attack can be avoided by keeping your distance or jumping exactly when his fist hits the ground. He is also able to use the buffs of Defense Up, Attack Up, and Cancel W. Atk and Cancel M. Atk. Scarlion [Lvl.90-120-140]

The easier of the two Malaysia Amusement Park bosses. Its three forms differ in stats greatly! Despite this, all forms have the same attacks, but just different damages dealt. All his attacks hit at about the same medium range for distance. The first attack is when Scarlion reaches to its back and throws out a shower of Scarlion heads at the players. The second attack is when he leaps up and comes crashing back into the ground, causing an earthquake-like attack. This one can be dodged by jumping as he comes back to the ground. The third attack is a slash with his paw that sends a shockwave towards players. All forms are also able to use Cancel W. Atk and Cancel M. Atk and also can summon Scaredy Scarlion mobs which are easily cleaned up with a quick Avenger (Scaredy Scarlions have the same stats regardless of which form summons them. Scaredy Scarlions all have 5200 HP). The first form is only Lvl. 90 and does very little damage with its attacks and touch damage, only about 400 at the maximum. The second form is a bit more beefed up, but nothing impressive. Its damages only go up to about a thousand at the maximum with its attacks and touch damage. The third form is when it actually deals noticeable damage. Its attacks all deal about 2,500 damage, while its touch can do up to about 4,000. It is recommended that a party taking on this boss have some sort of Rusher to help keep this boss pinned, especially when it has the Cancel W. Atk buff on. Luring this boss to the open center of the map is advised to get the best view at the loot after defeating this boss.

Targa [Lvl.90-120-140]

The more difficult of the two Malaysia Theme Park bosses. Despite all three forms having drastic differences in stats, all forms have the same attacks and abilities, just different damages to players. The first attack is a barrage of slashes with its claws as it slowly progresses forward. Be careful with this attack on its third form as you will receive its touch damage when hit by this attack. After it completes this attack, it flips back to its original position. You can easily keep your distance from this attack by backpedaling as you jump spam Triple Throw. The second attack is a massive roar that deals damage to players as well as Stun them. The third attack is when Targa reaches to its back, appears to scratch his butt, which then causes balloons to levitate this boss into the air, where he finally unleashes a giant death laser. Despite all the fanciness, the damage done is similar to that of other ranged attacks, and can easily be avoided by Flash Jumping away as he goes through the entire animation. Its last attack is one that is shared with Scarlion - Targa reaches to its behind and then throws a shower of Targa heads at players. The first form only deals about 400 damage at max with ranged and touch attacks. The second form deals about 1,000 for either. The third form deals about 2,600 with ranged attacks while dealing up to about 4,400 with its touch damage and charging slashes attack. All forms can also cast Cancel W. Atk and Cancel M. Atk as well as summon Rattatulas to get in the way. Rattatulas only have 5,200 HP each, so Avenger will clean them up quickly. It is recommended that a Rusher be brought along to keep this boss pinned, especially when it has Cancel W. Atk active. It is also advised that the boss be lured to the center of the map when nearly finished to get the best view on loot.

Krexel [Lvl.140]

[Ranged attacks for this boss are currently glitched and are inactive]

The boss of the Ulu City area. At first it looks like some freakishly deformed giant tree, but upon attacking it, this massive boss reveals itself! When fighting this boss, don't touch the eyes area since it deals a bit over 6,000 touch damage. Its ranged attacks only deal up to a bit over 200. Despite being massive, it only has 3 forms - The initial form that you hit to summon it, and a form for each eye, consisting of 250 mil HP per form.

The first form just looks like a tiny little branch with a piece of fruit stickng out of the fat tree. Whack at it and Krexel will awaken. The best spot to stand when fighting this monster tree is right by the ladder.

The second form is the eye on the left side of the screen. It only has two attacks - one looks like the Bishop skill Genesis and the other is little vines popping out of the ground to hit you. The Genesis-like skill won't hit you as you sit under where the ladder used to be, but the vine attack will. It only deals about 200 damage if you get hit. Krexel can cast both W. Atk Immunity and M. Atk Immunity.
The third form, is the remaining eye. It is exactly the same as the previous form except it is able to summon Dark Wyvens once its HP is below 25%. Be careful not to touch the eyes since they deal about 6,000 touch damage.

I solo'd the 2nd larger body in roughly 30 minutes with Stews. Not much pot use. I used about 10 HP pots because I was lagging a little so I just hit the HP pot for safety. The rest were all MP pots. Bosses in Area: Headless Horseman, Big Foot, Versalian Grandmasters

[ch=1]Back to Top![/ch]

Headless Horseman [Lvl.100]

The easier of the two area bosses for Phantom Forest is found at many different maps. This silly looking boss is quite simple to take down. He has two attacks - the first where he tosses his flaming head at players and the other where he swipes his sword at them, both with only a short range to them and dealing about 2,000 damage to players if they are hit by them. He also is very easy to keep pinned with Lucky 7 and Shadow Partner on and very easy to push around with Triple Throw and Shadow Partner. This makes it so players can avoid this boss's attacks by keeping him pinned or pushed away enough so that the players remain out of his attack range. This is especially easy when he is pinned or pushed into a corner. Going into Dark Sight does not de-aggrovate this boss, but it stops him from further attacking players with his ranged attacks. This is good just in case something goes wrong. This boss can also heal, but at a slow rate of 200 HP every 10 seconds.

On all of this boss's spawn locations, you'll encounter either Phantom Trees, Jr. Wraiths, Wraiths, Elder Wraiths, or Leprachauns. But on pretty much every map Headless Horseman spawns on, so does Big Foot. Fighting both the area bosses at the same time isn't difficult at all, especially if players don't do anything really stupid.

Bigfoot [Lvl.102]

The tougher area boss of Phantom Forest is found at many different locations. This boss was once a lot more dangerous but highly hunted for due to how much exp it gave out, it is now merely a shadow of its former self. This boss runs around noticebly fast, especially when chasing players. If this beast manages to run into you, prepare to take over 2,000 damage. This boss also has a short-ranged attack where it jumps up and then deals about 1,000 damage to players close enough to it when it lands. Luckily both attacks can be very easily avoided by keeping your distance as you fight this boss. Unlike many other mobile area bosses, Bigfoot sports invincibility frames. These activate about 2 seconds after hitting Bigfoot with any sort of attack, giving it invincibility for a quick second. This means simply straight-spamming Lucky 7 or Triple Throw at this boss won't keep it pinned down completely. But by practicing your timing your hits accordingly to the i-frames, you can better keep this boss pinned down. Dark Sight works very well against this boss. Flash Jump, however, does not have the height to completely jump over this boss. If you need to Flash Jump over Bigfoot, take touch damage from any of the Wraith, Elder Wraith, Phantom Tree, or Leprachaun mobs that also dwell on the maps this boss spawns on.

This boss spawns on many maps similar to the Headless Horseman boss. This boss is much easier to take down if the Headless Horseman is either ignored or defeated beforehand.

Versalian Grandmasters [Lvl.120]

[Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest currently closed on GMS/NAMS]

  • This part was originally written by IcedFire for the Archer Training Guide, but I've fixed it up to better prepare NLs for this sweet battle!

Once your squad is able to surpass the pre-tests of the CWK PQ, you'll arrive at the Grandmaster Hall, where you'll face the last challenge!

It is especially important for players to be fully prepared for this boss battle since it is unlike pretty much any other boss battle in Maple Story so far. Unlike the bosses that are just 1-on-1 with some mobs or the bosses that have forms that follow eachother in a specific order, you will have to do battle with all four Grandmasters on the map at once!

But using the right tactics, a well-prepared squad should be able to divide and conquer these four epic monsters. The general idea is to split the Squad so that a Warrior with Rush or a Buccaneer using Corkscrew will be able to seperate the bosses and keep them in positions so that the rest of the squad can take down one Grandmaster at a time.

Margana (reverse the name and you get Anagram) is the Magician-based Grandmaster. Her most infamous ability is that she can place players in the state of Zombify, causing Heal from Bishops to deal damage rather than recover HP and halving HP recovery effects from other skills and potions (verification needed on pot recovery decrease). She can also cast Seal, so the best idea would be to have your partied Bishop spam Dispell instead of Heal (he/she may Heal, but caution must be taken). Margana can also cast a Poison cloud, dealing lower-2k damage on impact with players, and decreasing their HP by 30 as long as they remain within the Cloud. She is also able to summon Dark Menhrirs, which have limited range, but are able to deal over 10k damage, so do not get close to this boss. If you have ample Rushers/Bucs in your squad, use one to pin Margana to an edge. This will easily allow ranged players to take her out without getting many hits. But even without a Rush/Buc, her KB is 20k, so many ranged attackers will be able to do a good job pinning her down. She has the least HP of the four Grandmasters, so she will go down the fastest. All the Grandmasters have very nifty looking attacks. Margana, as a Magician-based boss will cast spells. Most noticeable is her ability to Zombify players. To avoid total disaster when fighting her, have all Healers do something else besides spam Healing the party. It is best they spam Dispell instead since she can cast many different curses on players from Poison, Seal, and Curse. She can also transform into a Dark Menhir temporarily. It is much like the Menhir Totems from an earlier stage of the party quest, where touching it will reduce your HP down to one. But other than that, it just sits there until Margana appears again.

Red Nirg (Grinder) is the Warrior-based Grandmaster. This hulk of a Grandmaster may be large, but he is not a major challenge for most squads. His KB is a solid 80,000, but a Rusher/Buc will be able to keep this boss pinned down for ranged players to crumble him from a safe distance. He is able to cast a Rage-like skill, boosting the attack of himself and other Grandmasters close enough to him. This will probably annoy your Rusher/Buc/other melee attackers, since his damage will go up to the neighborhood of 4000. But despite being a Warrior, don't be fooled, this guy is able to really mess up an inexperienced party. The first thing is his range. He does a wild spin tornado attack which has 250 range, and it is able to send players flying back when they are hit. Second, he can summon large mobs of familiar CWK monsters (Windraiders, Firebrands, Stormbreakers, Nightshadows, and ofcourse Crimson Guardians). This is signaled by the blowing of his battle horn. Be sure to not get too distracted. As long as your Rusher/Buc maintains control of this boss, the mobs should go down quick. If not, keep your eyes on Red Nirg and the CGs since their ability to Seal can cause some trouble if you don't eliminate them quickly.

Hsalf (Flash) is the Thief-based Grandmaster. Despite having a cool outfit, this boss is mostly his name spelled backwards and not a big threat. He has a Shadow Mesos Explosion skill, which is a creative combination of Mesos Explosion and Shadow Mesos. Creative, but not threatening. It lacks the power of ME like most know it for, and it doesn't fly quickly at targets like Shadow Mesos. Instead, the Red Mesos are thrown out, lay out on the ground for a sec, and then explode for near-3k damage. Also creative, is his use of his Dagger and his Claw. Able to perform a Savage Blow-like melee attack and a 'Star Rain' ranged attack, as well as the ability to make giant blades come up from the ground in succession going away from him. One thing about his attacks is that they are fun to watch! But non-threatening due to his low KB. Also impaired by his low KB is his superior Speed which can be boosted to an insane 245%! The easiest way to keep this boss in check is to simply get up close to him and just unload your Triple Throws at him. His touch damage is only about as damaging as his flashy attacks, so it's not a real threat to even just sit on top of him as you do so. Oddly, this boss has the most HP of the Grandmasters.

Rellik (Killer) is the Archer-based Grandmaster. The most difficult of the Grandmasters. His appearance isn't so threatening, but his attacks more than make up for that. All of his attacks come with added effects, so you have to be able to react quickly. His most infamous attack is his 1/1 + Poison attack (Poison does 300/second damage). Up until now, you should not have used many HP pots as a ranged attacker, so you should have plenty prepared for this attack, use them! He is also able to do Arrow Rain and Arrow Explosion attacks, both dealing near-2k damage combo'ed with Stun. The Explosion attack puts players in a lengthier Stun than his Rain attack. This guy can be left to last so ranged attackers will have an easier time finishing the battle, but if your melee attackers are having trouble with this boss, it can be fought at any time after Margana. This boss is also able to Seal players. Similar to Hsalf, getting up close to it and just spamming Triple Throw at him will easily take him out since he also does non-threatening touch damage.

All four Grandmasters are able to heal HP at a rate of 800 every 10 seconds.

Good Luck!

Black Crow [Lvl.115]

This boss is a Maplestory representation of the Tengu monster. It spawns around the gravestone found at Encounter with the Buddha. This boss can move rather quickly, but this is not a problem if you can keep him pinned. The only issue with that are the Dreamy Ghost spawn on the map that enjoy getting in the way of the fight. A solution to this is to either lure them or Ninja Storm them to the opposite side of the map you wish to fight Black Crow on and use Shadow Web to stick them there. But simple spamming of Lucky 7, Triple Throw, or Avenger should eliminate those that get in your way with ease. This boss has two attacks, but they pretty much do the same thing, mid-ranged and deals approximately 2,800 damage if you get hit by them. The first is a wave of his fan, causing a twister to come up out of the ground and damages those hit by it. His other attack is he leaps up, turns all gold and comes at you with a downward kick. Both are easily avoided by taking a jump back.

Female Boss (Anego) [Lvl.130]

One of very few bosses in Maplestory which are female, this one guard the Parlor at the hideout in Showa. The best approach to this boss is to pin her to either side of the map with continuous Triple Throws. The left side is a bit easier since the mobs tend to go and spawn there less often. This boss attacks primarily with a mid-ranged slapping attack which does a bit under 3,000 damage if you do get hit. If you keep her pinned from a distance, this attack is very easy to keep out of range from.

Bodyguard A [Lvl.152]

The first of two bodyguards of the Grandpa Boss of Showa. He mainly uses his punching attacks which have as much range as Triple Throw/Lucky 7 and they hit for a bit over 3,000 damage with a 100% Stun Rate. 20% of that is eliminated with Shadow Resistance, but this attack can be avoided by repeatedly jump-spamming at this boss with the right timing. If this boss does manage to get close to you, it does its kick attack, which does nothing really besides about the same damage as the punches. The key to fighting this boss is keeping it pinned to the right side as much as possible to avoid any interruprtion from the mobs. It is suggested that Dark Flare be used when fighting this boss. If you or your entire party gets stunned, Flare can de-aggro this boss to give you and your party a chance to get a break from the Stun punches after they recover.

Bodyguard B [Lvl.155]

The second of two bodyguards for the Grandpa Boss of Showa. This boss attacks by taking out a bazooka and shooting it at players. Despite this type of weapon, it is only mid-ranged. It also doesn't do any damage to your HP since when hit, players will have their HP filled to max, but MP drained to 1. Unlike Bodyguard A, you can sit and spam Triple Throw at this boss without repeatedly jumpshooting to avoid his attacks. Dark Flare would not be any use here.

The Boss (Grandpa Boss) [Lvl.175]

The final boss of Showa. Despite having lower HP than either bodyguards, this old guy really puts up a fight. Like Bodyguard B, it is simple to pin this boss to the right side of the map and it's suggested to do so. This boss has two attacks, a purple lightning attack and a little twister attack. Both reduce player HP and MP to 1, but the twisters attack also casts Seal on players. Dark Flare is definitely suggested for this boss, especially with multiple party members. Avoid getting close to this boss as it does over 6,000 touch damage. Bring a sufficient amount of potions and All Cures/Holy Waters for this boss. Potions that recover both HP and MP is recommended.

Kacchuu Musha [Lvl.120]

One of the two bosses at Ninja Castle, Kachuu Musha is the weaker one. Found at the Castle Corridor map right before the jump quest. This red samurai boss is nowhere as sturdy as he looks, but definitely has the flashiness expected from a samurai boss. His first attack is one with medium range where he charges up lightning and players in he vicinity get hit. His second attack is a close-ranged slash of his sword. Both only deal up to about 2,000 damage and the second can be avoided by keeping him pinned which is easy due to his low. Even though the spawn on the bottom of this map is relatively low, Nintos and other mobs may get in your way. But with his low speed, you should have time to clear any mobs in the way and still have considerable space between you and this boss. A special technique to make this boss easier is that you can lure him into jumping up onto one of the stars/arrows stuck on the wall used to get to the top of the map. Just attack him and go up and he'll try to follow. Then quickly jump down and if you keep a good distance, you can just spam Triple Throw at him without worry about any of his attacks getting to you. He may jump down if you rebuff, but just repeat the method to get him back on the higher area.

Castellan [Lvl.180]

This is the first form of the second and stronger boss of Ninja Castle. This boss has two attacks, one where ninjas appear and fire arrows down on players and the other where he tosses candy at the players. Both attacks cover the area of the screen and deal almost 8,000 damage to players when hit. Despite his low KB rate, he actually does not seem to be affected by it since he is immobile and seems to continue attack anyways when hit.

Castellan Toad [Lvl.180]

The second form of the stronger of two bosses of Ninja Castle. One thing to note about this boss is it summons Captains from Herb Town, and a lot of them! Does not really make much sense though. Like Castellan, this form deals about 8,000 damage to players when they are hit with his attacks. This toad can slap players if they're close enough with his tongue. Like Castellan, he has two full-screen attacks - the first is a tsunami push, where he slowly goes in a foward motion and a wave is formed. The second is a flash rain animation which goes by much quicker than the previous. Like Castellan, his low KB doesn't appear to have any effects.

Griffey [Lvl.]

A griffon-type monster with a large necklace that lives in Minar Forest. This whily bird's horn actually grows during two of its three abilities! Its main attack is an attack from its beak that 1/1's players hit by it. This boss also can stun with an attack which looks electricity-based. Also comes with the ability to Dispell players. Griffey Forest has a few Black and Red Kentasauruses spawning on it, but clearing them will easily allow players to pin Griffey out of range from hitting players with any of its abilities. Players with a high level of Shadow Shifter may also prefer to stand on top of Griffey while fighting to avoid the Stun and 1/1 abilities.

This boss has a special solo map for those attempting the 4th Job Advancement.

Manon [Lvl.120]

A red dragon that is apparently too fat to fly. But at least it can still breathe fire. Its fire breath is actually a close-ranged 1/1 attack, and gives time for players to Flash Jump out of range due to its charging up animation. Manon also carries an egg in a shoulder strapped sack. The egg can "hatch" and shoot a wave beam at players dealing almost 2,000 damage but also Stuns them. Manon's last ability is a glow that dispells players. Manon's Forest has a few Blue Kentasauruses spawning on it, but once those are dispatched, it is very easy to keep Manon pinned far away enough to stay out of its attack range. Players may also choose to stand on Manon during the fight if they have a high level of Shadow Shifter. Manon's touch damage is under 2,000, but tanking it will give players the benefit of avoiding the 1/1's and Stuns without having to keep out of range.

This boss has a special solo map for those attempting the 4th Job Advancement.
