Training Guide Suggestions

Ice / Lightning Arch Mage Forum Talk about Ice/Lightning Wizard, Mage and Arch Mage

[Work In Progress]

As suggested multiple times here. I'm going to be putting together an up-to-date training guide (with all of your help, of course!) If you have suggestions for training, post here. If you have suggestions for PvP, post here. If you have some other suggestion for the guide, go post in the suggestion thread.

Once I have decided that this list is complete enough, I will add it to the main guide and make it shinier than it could ever be as a normal thread.
If you wish to share a training spot, unless it's a "Theme Dungeon" that's only really good for its quests (e.g. Mushroom Kingdom, Chryse, Maple Island) post in the following format:

Level Range: xxx~xxx
Map Name:
Mob Name:
Tips/Description:

If it is a Theme Dungeon, just post the name of the dungeon and briefly mention what it's good for besides EXP (if anything). Like I've done for Maple Island.

Also feel free to make corrections.

1st Job and Beginnings

1~10

Maple Island: Don't skip the tutorial, just do the quests. You can leave early to job advance if you want to, but going after level 8 isn't really a big deal. Leveling's a breeze.

11~20

Beach: Blue Ribbon Beach
Blue Ribbon Pigs
Crazy experience from 10-20, you'll fly right through to 18 at least!

Haunted House: Chimney Possessed by the Skeletons
Rotting Skeletons
Very, very popular spot, so you might have trouble getting a channel. The EXP is definitely good though, just circulate the map or share the top or bottom with someone and Magic Claw away.

Episode 1: Do your quests from Grendel and Power B. Fore for good EXP and eventually a 12 INT hat.

21~30

Haunted House: Chimney Possessed by the Skeletons
Rotting Skeletons

Golem's Temple: Golem's Temple 4 or Golem's Temple: Golem's Castle Ruins
Mixed Golems
Good map for training, when using Magic Claw you can hit two platforms.

2nd Job

31~40

Mushroom Kingdom: Complete the whole questline for good EXP, a great pair of gloves for the unfunded, and a shiny 2/2/2/2 medal.

Kerning Square: 7th Floor 8th Floor Area A
Greatest Oldies and Latest Hits Compilation
A bit crowded, but a perfect map for Thunderbolt. The CDs only spawn on the bottom platform so you have a flat map to teleport about and zap away.

41~50

Greatest Oldies and Latest Hits Compilation
A bit crowded, but a perfect map for Thunderbolt. The CDs only spawn on the bottom platform so you have a flat map to teleport about and zap away.

Monster Carnival PQ: Room 3/4, maxed Trojans and Speed. Try not to get Rombots since they resist Lightning.

Haunted House: Chimney Possessed by the Scarecrow
Dead Scarecrows
Like all the Chimney maps, this one is very popular since it's the fastest for its level range. Just circulate and spam Thunderbolt.

Singapore: Suburban Area 2
Truckers
Lightning weak and they have great spawn. 'Nuff said.

Malaysia: Muddy Banks 3
Charmers
Just zap away with Thunderbolt.

Malaysia: Muddy Banks 1
Oly Olys and Dark Fissions
It's a big map, so make sure to use the teleporter to get to the top.

PvP: How much EXP you get depends on your control and how much you lag in comparison to your opponents. Mostly the latter though.

51~60

Haunted House: Sophilia's Bedroom
Voodoos/Hoodoos
A small map that only spawns 4 or 5 monsters. It's an alternative to get away from the crowds at Scarecrows.

Omega Sector: Boswell Field I
Mateons and Plateons
Another alternative to Scarecrows. Fairly easy to navigate.

Chryse: Not very good EXP, but it's a decent alternative if you enjoy questing. You also get a chance at some nice glasses if you fight Xerxes.

PvP: Same as before.

Aqua Road: Big Fish Valley
Flower Fish and Bubble Fish
Bubble Fish are weak to lightning. Now that Aqua Road mobs don't fly around the map is probably very easy to navigate.

61~70

Omega Sector: Boswell Field I
Mateons and Plateons
Another alternative to Scarecrows/Jesters. Fairly easy to navigate.

Haunted House: Chimney Possessed by the Clown
Twisted Jesters
Like all the Chimney maps, this one is very popular since it's the fastest for its level range. Just circulate and spam Thunderbolt.

Haunted House: Toy Room
Twisted Jesters
Alternative to the Chimney, not nearly as crowded, but also not as mobby. It's a small map in which you'll get 4-5 Jesters spawning at one time.

Haunted House: Vanity Room
Twisted Jesters and Hoodoos/Voodoos
You'll get a balance of Hoodoos and Jesters here, the spawn and map are similar to the Toy Room. It's an alternative in the more populated worlds.

Omega Sector: Kulan Field III
Zeta Grays
Another Jesters alternative, but also popular (not just to people in your level range) since they drop Angelic Bless Recipes. They tend to spawn around the top left platform.

Chryse: Still not very good EXP, but it's something to do if you enjoy questing. You also get a chance at some nice glasses if you fight Xerxes.

PvP: No different: lag and control. Great EXP if you have the latter and not the former.

Malaysia: Fantasy Theme Park 2
Booper Scarlions
Spawn is a tad limited, but good EXP nonetheless, apparently.

3rd Job

71~80

PvP: I don't think I need to explain.

Magatia: Alcadno Research Institute-Lab Area C-1
Roids
Flat map, decent EXP.

Malaysia: Fantasy Theme Park 2
Booper Scarlions
Spawn is a tad limited, but good EXP nonetheless, apparently.

Sunset Road: Sahel 2
Sand Rat and Scorpion
The monsters spawn on a single, flat platform. All you do is go back and forth through the map.

Haunted House: Chimney Possessed by the Clown
Twisted Jesters
Like all the Chimney maps, this one is very popular since it's the fastest for its level range. Just circulate or take a platform and spam Ice Strike.

Haunted House: Toy Room
Twisted Jesters
Alternative to the Chimney, not nearly as crowded, but also not as mobby. It's a small map in which you'll get 4-5 Jesters spawning at one time.

Alcadno Research Institute: Lab - Area B-3 and Alcadno Research Institute: Lab - Area B-1
Iron Mutae and Mithril Mutae
Completely flat maps with sniping spots, self explanatory.

81~90

Iron Mutae and Mithril Mutae
Completely flat maps with sniping spots, self explanatory.

Magatia: Alcadno Research Institute-Lab Area C-1
Roids
Flat map, decent EXP.

Singapore: Mysterious Path 3
Slimys and Selkie Jrs
A little crowded but you can party with two other people and each takes a platform. Stand on the car on bottom and spam Ice Strike.

Singapore: Ghost Ship 5
Selkie Jrs
Alternative to MP3.

Singapore: Ghost Ship 2
Slimy
MP3 alternative.

PvP

91~100

PvP

Singapore: Ghost Ship 6
Mr. Anchors
Two platform map. Since Chaos, you're going to have to circulate rather than go back and forth thanks to the vertical range cut in Ice Strike.

Singapore: Mysterious Path 3
Slimys and Selkie Jrs
A little crowded but you can party with two other people and each takes a platform. Stand on the car on bottom and spam Ice Strike.

Singapore: Ghost Ship 5
Selkie Jrs
Alternative to MP3.

Singapore: Ghost Ship 2
Slimys
MP3 alternative.

Herb Town: Red-Nose Pirate Den 2
Captains and Krus
Walk back and forth there spamming IS from the middle platform. Remember that IS knocks mobs in the direction you are facing, which is not necessarily away from you, if it takes you a lot of hits to kill them, you might want to alternate the direction you are facing every few IS's to make sure the mobs that are further away and in front of you don't get knocked out of your range/mobs behind you into you.

Malaysia: Entrance to the Spooky World
Galloperas
Circulate the map with Ice Strike.

Zenumist Research Institute: Lab - Unit 202
Homunculus
Monsters only spawn on the ground. Use Lightning and Teleport to gather them up and have them follow you to the right side of the map. There is a platform on the right side where they cannot hit you, but your Ice Strike can, snipe away. You may want to turn off Teleport Mastery so you don't stun them.

Zipangu: Encounter With the Buddha
Dreamy Ghosts (Himes)
Used to be a really popular place to train for high 3rd job people. Now, I guess it's an alternative to other places that are too crowded (like MP3). It's pretty easy to find a map now, and still pretty good exp. Same idea here too: use non-freezing and non-stunning skills to gather them up on one side, then freeze the mob to make them defenseless.

101~110

PvP

Herb Town: Red-Nose Pirate Den 2 or Mini Dungeon: Pillage of Treasure Island
Captains and Krus

Ludibrium: Warped Path of Time < 3 >
Ghost Pirate
Don't bother coming here unless you have maxed Elemental Reset. These guys resist ice.

Ludibrium: Warped Path of Time < 4 >
Spirit Viking
Weak to lightning, but that doesn't matter too much since you'll be using Ice Strike. Still an alternative to Captains I guess.

Ludibrium: Warped Path of Time < 2 >
Buffoon and Deep Buffoon
Big map, and the mobs are all weak to ice. Go down one side, take the teleport from the bottom all the way to the top, mob down the opposite side and repeat.

111~120

PvP

Lion King's Castle: Under the Castle Walls 1
Crocky the Gatekeepers
If you can get into a party of 6 you'll be doing great here. The pot burn is something, but worth it. You're probably best off using Ice Strike here (if you're playing a pre-Chaos server don't forget to use Elemental Reset for all the maps in LHC). Take advantage of Slow, too.

4th Job

121~130

PvP

Leafre: Dragon Forest II
Rextons
Lightning-weak, so make sure to have points in Big Bang and Chain Lightning. Freezing them with Ice Strike helps in the earlier levels.

Hidden Street: Red Wyvern's Nest
Red Wyvern
Ice-weak, so just Ice Strike away and maybe use the occasional Blizzard.

Lion King's Castle: Under the Castle Walls 1
Crocky the Gatekeeper

Hidden Street: Twisted Time
Gigantic Spirit Vikings
Weak to lightning. Though not nearly as good as LHC it's a good place if you can't train there.

El Nath: Wolves' Territory 1
Werewolves
Decent spawn, okay training if you don't have LHC as an option.

Hidden Street: Origin of the Clock Tower
Papulatus
Pin Pap to the very left and spam Chain Lightning from the upper platform to avoid being dispelled.

131~140

PvP

Lion King's Castle: Under the Castle Walls 4
Bearwolves
Use Chain Lightning in smaller mobs, but when you get large groups of say 4 or more, take advantage of Ice Demon and then finish them off with Ice Strike. Slowing them down might prove useful too.

Hidden Street: Origin of the Clock Tower
Papulatus
Pin Pap to the very left and spam Chain Lightning from the upper platform to avoid being dispelled.

Lion King's Castle: Very Tall Castle Walls
Castle Golem
These guys have a nasty knockback ability. Be sure to slow them down and use one of your multihit skills (Ice Strike or Thunder Spear) to keep yourself out of their range and then spam CL once safe.

El Nath: Wolves' Territory 1
Werewolves
Decent spawn, okay training if you don't have LHC.

Hidden Street: The Hidden Dragon Tomb II
Dark Cornians and Green Cornians
My memory is a tad fuzzy, but I believe this map was the one of the ones that 13X people trained in before we got LHC. So it should be something worth considering for an EMSer or someone who doesn't want to LHC.

PvP

Temple of Time: Usually the farthest map you can get to, though the ones with the best spawn tend to be Memory Lane 4/5, Road of Regrets 4/5, and Oblivion 4/5. In Memory Lane 4/5, Dark Angelic Bless Recipes are rumored to drop, but don't expect much with their rarity.

Door to the Future: Future Henesys and Future Ereve are available to those who are 160+. Most are regular mobs, but the spawns in the Knight's Stronghold are in party play zones like LHC. Wherever you choose to train, be warned that these guys deal very high touch damage and even higher magic damage, especially in the Knight's Stronghold. If you're going to take advantage of the party play, you might want to bring along a Dark Knight friend since the monsters hit a good 7k+. Take advantage of Slow as well, the Knights are fast.

Last Mission: Zakum's Altar
Zakum
Not something I'd recommend unless you can solo or duo quickly. If you can't kill too fast you could try just doing an Arms run.

Yea, I know it has, but for the Homunculus, if the platform is too high, there is a step (like, a stair) to the left that is slightly lower. If you stand there you're just BARELY above the Homunculus' heads and IS can definitely reach.
