Beyond Blade is the only hyper (only) offensive attack which doesn't require CD, unless you count overswing cycle + final blow (taking about 3 seconds) as a CD.
Quoted from my thread in Maplestory forums: I saw a thread about how ranger hypers are ridiculously OP, so I decided to take a closer look at it. Little disclaimer: I do not guarentee my math or logic is correct, but I'm giving it a shot.
If you look at the cooldown times instead of just the damage...
Long Range Trueshot: 100m dmg. 30 sec cooldown = 3.33m per sec Wind of Frey: 3m dmg. X8 hit. X10 dmg over time. 15 cooldown = 2.13 (Assumes dmg over time has same max cap) Four Seasons: 3m x 10. 8 sec cooldown = 3.75m per sec Veil of Shadow: 10m x 12. 90 sec cooldown = 1.33 per sec Asura: ? Unity of Power ? Strange Bomb: 10m x 12. 15 cool = 8 per sec
I dunno about the last two, description of Unity seems as if there's some gauge for Pirates. But if strange bomb isn't limit by that, it is the most OP hyper skill by itself. For this reason I assume Pirate hypers have more to them and my calculation is irrelevent. Second place would be Four Seasons.
Of course, the above neglects the damage the attack does, only the MAX damage, which really only applies to the best of the best.
It is worth noting that a higher cooldown tends to be better all other things being equal... If I assume doing a hyper takes up an attack move, AND all hypers take same amount of time to execute... If we have 60 cooldown for 1000 damage, that's inferior to 120 cooldown for 2000 damage because you need to spend an extra move on the hyper. If we're comparing the 8 second cooldown of Four Seasons to the 90 second cooldown of Veil Shadow, that is an extra ~11 attacks the Night Lord gives up to use the hyper. That's hard to calculate though because that depends on the damage I would do if I were not doing hypers. Even if I assume I hit cap off hypers, too much work and room for mistakes.
So if I multiply % damage by amount of hits, I should be able to get the amount of damage the attack does, ignoring damage cap, because I'm not sure who can actually hit 99m damage.
Long Range Trueshot: 4000% 100m dmg. 30 sec cooldown = 3.33m per sec or 133.33 Wind of Frey: 500% 3m dmg. X8 hit. X10 poison for 200%. 15 cooldown or 233.33 Four Seasons: 250% 3m x 10. 8 sec cooldown = 3.75m per sec or 312 or 312.5 Veil of Shadow: 800% 10m x 12. 90 sec cooldown = 1.33 per sec or 106.66 Asura: ? Unity of Power? Strange Bomb: 400% 10m x 12. 15 cool = 8 per sec or 320
Again, I don't feel Trueshot is particularily amazing compared to some of the other hypers... I am assuming that "3m damage max" means "3m damage max per line", because 12 hits of Veil Shadow at 800% dmg would be incredibly stupid with "10m damage total damage" and makes sense if its "10m damage max per line". Of course, I ignored all other hypers for classes except their awesome possum hyper main move. I cannot calculate everything for all classes, that is way out of my scope.
My opinions obviously, and the hypers are not even out yet. Just posting my two cents.
PS:
Is it me, or is "Strange Bomb" a lame name for a hyper? Comon! Well, at least a lot of the moves are cool. Asura and Four Seasons look pretty cool IMO.
MM No cooldown Snipe I/L Mage No cooldown Glacier Chain Battle mage and aran for getting attacks that they can chain to their existing attacks Mercs? for an attack that has a really short cooldown time (8 secs) but doesn't look as epic as other hypers.
I would say demon slayer. blue blood is an amazing buff and their lv 170 hyper has a very short cooldown. Not only that, the buffs demonslayers got were awesome too, especially the reduced force consumption on most of their attacks.
Phantoms. And Mihiles. And uh.. What's another bad one... BM.
What do Shads get again?
Veil of Shadows and Coin Flip. Veil covers a large area with constant attacks for 12 seconds, allowing you to continue fighting in the meantime. And Coin Flip gives additional damage, crit, and boosts the cap per stack, and can be used on-the-fly.
Also additional skill changes to PhaseDash and ShadowerInstinct. More targets on Dash, double duration on Instinct.

Basically a reskinned version of AB's super nova and a buff that gives 5% damage, 10% crit rate and 20k cap increase, which can be stacked 5 times by hitting criticals, so a total of 25% dmg, 50% crit and 100k cap increase with no cooldown and lasts for 120 seconds
@MeMagicalPie The 8 second hypers with the exception of one do 3000% 15 second hypers do around 4x00%, often with additional DoT 30 second hypers usually do 4000% o_o 90 second hypers either do damage totaling to around 7xxx% on up or have a secondary effect like binding
@grawp77: And 20% status resistance. That's actually really good and needed since i/l have low survivability at bosses. Don't forget lightning sphere, that skill is pretty awesome.
Best vid i've seen of it so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY85DxiN5rY
No one ever noticed no cooldown glacial chain at 195 for i/l If you guys didn't know, it's a pretty freakin powerful skill.
Even so we dont get any buff at all that 20% stance & 20% Damage absortion is like a slap in my face
For sure has to be mechanics with Distortion Field:A special bullet made from Resistance Technology distorts space, dealing 260% damage two times continuously to up to 8 enemies for 4 seconds. buccaneers have it pretty good. Not just saying it because its my class ill back it up to. Octopunch our main bossing move gets 1 extra line of damage, 40% damage increase, as well as 40% bossing on top of that( without counting the 200 hyper buff)
then comes the active hyper, its cool down is 8 seconds, 800% damage x5 on 8 monsters 9.9m cap damage. also increases cap on all skills.

No one's saying your damage won't improve. But everyone's will and the magnitude of your class's won't be great enough in comparison to others for you being the lead attacker to be a commonplace occurrence.

Luminous has really weird moan when use a hyper skill attack
Dual blades !

Dual blades. Obviously, what else?
Out of all the hyper attacks, Asura has to be the best one.
@Aeronomx: -Heart attack- Oh man.
@NinjkaMag: stiill cool
Cannoneers lvl 150 hyper skill buckshot.

I'd say BaM is up there, BKB, no CD on BB, better auras, twister spin increases. All in all a decent, all round improvement
i like the fire aura for f/p but i haven't looked up the hypers for any other classes so yeah
Nice Discussion I lets see what happens after the update
lol it's kinda useless for a pally though because most of them are already invulnerable
Root Abyss and Azwan says otherwise
lol it's kinda useless for a pally though because most of them are already invulnerable
jealous of the bishops' <3
I wish Phantoms hyper skills was good
MM No cooldown Snipe
I/L Mage No cooldown Glacier Chain
Battle mage and aran for getting attacks that they can chain to their existing attacks
Mercs? for an attack that has a really short cooldown time (8 secs) but doesn't look as epic as other hypers.
I'd say MM since Snipe is such a powerful skill already. If it's spammable... dear lawd... aha.
I really do like the nice buffs Bishops get though.
It'll certainly help my dojo time a lot better since the Vengeance skill boosts my attacking speed
@ the people saying bishops can't be the main attacker of a party... I leech people all the time. Idk what you're talking about >_>
Battle Mage. -totally unbiased-
ds has a pretty sweet hyper i heard but i cant wait for mm hyper, might get me back into mine
buccanner. u can do 2 times their mass hyper with time reset o.O
Pallies, because they get this for 30 seconds
I would say demon slayer. blue blood is an amazing buff and their lv 170 hyper has a very short cooldown.

-looks at thread and all the cool hypers-Is it to late to get a job?
Pally> all, we can murder you all at empress without a problem <3
kaiser win of course
Not Evan for sure.
Hayat-oh. Right.
@ketchup11: I'd take 8second 3000% over the others anytime
@MeMagicalPie
The 8 second hypers with the exception of one do 3000%
