mouse scroll wheel not working

problem.
my scroll wheel works perfectly fine on almost everything, internet, notepad, etc.
but when I try to use it in games like MapleStory and such, it doesn't work properly.
like, if i scroll it 3-4 times, it'll go one notch, but it normally does it how it should.
started happening after i reinstalled windows 7, which is weird.
any help?

Another thing to check would be if your specific mouse has a driver that needs to be installed. When you reinstalled Windows it's possible a mouse-specific driver was lost, and the computer is just using the "generic" Windows wheelmouse driver. Games might need the specific mouse driver to work correctly.

Check with your mouse's manufacturer's web site to see if there's a driver package you can download and install.
Try going into the Mouse settings in the Windows Control Panel. There's a place where you can adjust how many lines it will scroll for each "bump" on the mouse wheel. See if changing that setting helps in the game.
It works perfectly fine except in games, though.
I've tried adjusting that setting, and nothing happens.
