How good of a computer can I get?

So, my dad has allowed me to spend $1500 on buying a gaming computer; however, I am not quite sure which parts I should buy.
So I have come to Basilmarket's computer-techy-wiz people for help

(I've already decided that I want a 21"+ monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution or higher, maaaybe an SSD like this, and this extra hard drive, and as good as a graphic card as I can get on my budget. Also, I'm probably only going to shop at NCIX or another computer store within the Vancouver BC area because I don't want to pay for shipping, and that I want to be able to overclock it)

I need to know things such as uhhmmm...which processor I should buy and uhmm the differences between an 8 core processor and a 6 core processor, and what makes either one of them better in any way. I'm leaning toward this, simply because my friend said that having more cores in your processor is better

Umm...sorry to cause you so much trouble, but would there be anything in terms of parts that you would change now? ._.

I won't be doing much other than gaming, nothing that I think would require a lot of power (just Facebook and MSN and stuff), and I Don't need a mouse, keyboard, or speakers, becuase we already have our own that we like ^_^
More cores does not make your computer faster.

And that graphics card imo is god awful, well the whole 79xx line for AMD is a disaster imo cause of nVidia. I'd only buy their 78xx or 77xx line.

This. With $2000, two computers featuring an i5 (or AMD Phenom II/Bulldozer, whatever you like) and a GTX560Ti seems doable (monitors included... maybe?) if you just skip the SSD.

Since your computer is being shared, what about your brother? If the usage for both you and your brother are the same, then getting the i5-2500k/3570k would be good. The main difference between the i5 and i7 is Hyperthreading, and since you don't benefit from it in games, the gaming performance of the two are virtually identical.

What games you both wish to play exactly? I've seen a few people on this site wanted to get the best performing computer and yet they only play MS. BTW, with a $2000 budget, you may be able to build two good computers.

The more cores the better if you need the cores, although "gaming" doesn't need a lot of cores.
