Vocal Harmonizing Help

Hey guys,

I love music. I've always loved to play guitar and sing, and I've always wanted to harmonize vocally. Just one thing, I just can't do it... I try so hard but I just don't know what note to sing when I'm singing with one of my friends...

So basilers... do you have any tips on how to harmonize or how to go about doing/practicing it?

Thanks

@Butterring: You're welcome. Remember that it's a MAJOR 3rd and PERFECT 5th that harmonizes, and not just any 3 notes you have your first, third and fifth finger on. thus, of you're in E major, remember to sharp FCGD if it's in the triad...etc.
@Butterring: Anything in a triad would harmonize, so C-E-G. I just use G (perfect 5th) because it is perferred for harmonizing especially in the end cadence (perfect cadence V->I). A vocal score are notes written on a staff which you can play and sing to. This is coming from strictly a piano/keyboard perspective btw.
I have a piano at home... probably best way to practice right now... thanks!

To practice singing, one must sing in the shower.
Don't you have a vocal score which you can refer to with SATB? If not, take the main melody note, let's say it's a C, then you can harmonize it with a G since that's a perfect 5th up. This is for piano btw, i'm not completely sure about guitar.
um no i dont... i have no idea what a vocal score is haha XD i sing and play just for my leisure... its so tough to know which note is 5 steps up on the spot... and is it only 5 steps up or can you do like... 3 steps up like an E for a C because thats part of the 1-3-5 chord for C
