So I got back my PSAT Results today and failedMISERABLY.
Considering that I'm a freshman and my school made you take the PSAT I got it back. When I got it back I was appalled... It wasn't a 200 or a 60.. I got a 142.. -__- I think I want to kill myself.. If I don't have AP World I'll slit my wrists.. I got a 64 on Math, 38 on Critical Reading and 40 on Writing. Without studying for writing I was quite surprised how ok I did, but compared to other kids... 50's on each section straight up. AT LEAST. I think I did the worst in the School and to get into AP World you would need to get the top 150 freshman for english and I know I didn't do too well... EVEN THIS ONE IMMIGRANT. Who doesn't know ANY English whatsoever gotten HIGHER THAN ME! I feel like the dumbest person in the whole school and now all these people are mocking me. T_T FML. What did you get ?
@OmNomBom: Uh.. that's by far the most blunt answer. Of course you need to study. If you don't study you won't do as well. I meant by what materials to study for.
Well, if I were in your shoes, that's what I would love someone to tell me to do: study ~ As a wee bit of motivation haha. Hopefully that should help
As for how/what to study... I'm not sure what your curriculum requires, but practice comprehension exercises from whatever books/resources your given in class, and use the internet to look for PSAT writing past exam papers or whatever (for extra help), so you know what to expect. We don't do PSAT here, so I'm sort of comparing it to what I had to do for my GCSE English.
Ask your teacher for extra help/to mark extra work for you, and that way you can see what you're doing wrong. Make sure your grammar is up to scratch, too, like use things such as "I have come here to say..." rather than "I have came here to say..."

It's okay, don't freak too much. You're still a freshman, the real SATs are meant for 11th and 12th graders. You still have time to learn what is on the test. I also did kind of crappy on my PSATs but I did just fine in my SATs. And think of it this way... it's just a guide for what you need to work on. You have plenty of time to improve. Good luck!
LOOL How can I improve if you're so smart?
Uh, by studying?
Sort of stopped reading here, because this is what you need to fix.
LOOL How can I improve if you're so smart?
214 last year as a sophomore, 221 this year as a junior. Don't really understand why you would take it as a freshman but w/e.
I was so happy with my 221, called a friend to brag, and found out he got a 231. He got hella lucky.

I got 161 last year as a sophomore, not sure what I got this year, forgot to check.
You people and your fancy schools that let you take AP classes freshman year. I couldn't take any until junior year. I talk to people from big schools in my state capitol saying how I'm content with my 8 AP classes, and they're all, "Oh, well I had like 16."
IT'S NOT FAIR, I TELL YOU! That's extra college I'm paying for!
Study more.
2280 on SATs whoo.
I did bad on PSATs though. Only got like a 212 LOL
18x here
Could have done better, since I fell asleep in hte middle and stopped trying
I'm planning to go to prep this summer, and maybe next summer as well.
I'm aiming for at least 2200 on the SATs
My first practice PSAT I got like a 180 something. I brought it up to 231 for the real thang though.
National Merit Finalist, nbd.
No seriously, not a big deal. Now that I'm a junior in college high school doesn't matter, which makes me a little sad, but w/e.
it's okay, i got 157 the first time o_o, but I didn't take AP world haha
chill dude i failed on my first psat.
i put all my answers in the booklet, and totally didn't see that you can open your booklet
Can't you just waiver into AP world?
What do you mean by this ? xDD
I went from 194 Freshman year to 185 Sophomore year >.>. I misbubbled something in math, so I got a 7instead of 80 >.>.
Can't you just waiver into AP world?
@Xgo321:
You'll realize that little things like getting into AP World aren't important, you could learn just as much from a regular class. It all depends on your motivation, and if world history means that much to you apply as an intern for a museum or an internship elsewhere relating to world history.
Well my parents wants the freaking credit for it, even though I don't see much interest, but other than no interests in studying I want to be with my nerd friends who are going to make the cut for AP World and it's 1 less class to take...
@shiv668: CHINESE PARENTS ARE MORE ANGRY when 49% of sophomores did better than an asian chinese freshman... and they want you to be better than 99 of the people for math and they were like wtf why did you get 95 percentile when you were suppose to get 99.. FML Ihml...
I got 229. I'm pretty happy but I wish I got 230. Oh well.
Oh the pain! The agony! My PSAT results determined the rest of my life!
Drop the sarcasm because it's true that I'm not getting into AP World. T_T
@UndeadFools: It's SO not obvious that you're a troll.
......No idea what a PSAT is
Hey, TS. Don't get down.
At least you took as a freshman. (:
-unlike me who is a junior. failfailfailfailfailfail. I keep forgetting to take it. Procrastination is fail.-
And don't worry, the one you need to focus on is the SAT. Colleges look really look into that.
@Xgo321: Judging by your scores, your math is fine, but can be improved. Mainly work on writing skills and reading comprehension by:
1. Getting a vocabulary book with like 500 words and learn them consistently (make sure it's made by a well known maker like Barrons)
2. Getting several study guide books (Kaplan often provides easy questions and makes you think the PSAT/SAT's are gonna be easier than they really are) and do practice tests on them.
3. Read, read, and read some more. I personally don't know where you could start, but ask someone trustworthy. I had a great retired counselor who helped me. And when you read, read analytically, not for just pleasure.
@UndeadFools: Obvious troll is obvious.
>.> Great everybody did better than a stupid freshman
You don't have to study for psat because it's just a pre-assesment. Doesn't really count.
SAT's are the ones people need to focus on.
Why would anyone NOT study for that test. >____> seriously.
Well, the the national merit scholarship you can get in your junior year isn't a bad bonus. But people often hear other's say "the psat/sats are so easy, you don't have to study," which often deceives others. Turns out the people who say that make bad grades.
ITT: Some liers.
OT: I got like a 170 freshman,181 sophomore year, and then a 203 junior. Chill out..all you really gotta do to pick up those 2 scores is read more and more books. Oh and actually do practice tests and don't listen to that bs "The PSAT and SATs are easy, you don't have to study."
Does it really matter?
I got a 154
Aww. wtfudge.
I took it too late.
-sad-
I'm currently a junior. And how do you get the scores ? I got a college board acc.
i got a 152.
PSATs aren't really important. Especially as a Freshman.
201 for me.
I got a 175 xD
Lol you probably would have gotten a better score if you answered 10 correctly and left the rest blank
Omg I KNOW I should've did that but if I did and if I got one of them wrong I would still fail.
I knew a kid that had 23xx and he took the sat again to get 2400 -_-
Lol you probably would have gotten a better score if you answered 10 correctly and left the rest blank
I gotta 176.
>:
Are you a freshman, sophomore or a junior ? T_T
yu're a freshman it doesnt matter
and "AP World"? do you mean IB?
there is no limitation on who can get into IB, at least not PSAT score wise because no one knows your score except you.
trust me, there are a lot of people who did worse than you
To get into AP World matters since it's a good course to take in Freshman year...
