The Complete Wind Archer Skill Guide

Stop! Read this bolded message. Stop asking me where to train! Wind Archers train the same as regular Bowmen, that guide applies to both classes! Go there before asking me where to train!

Greetings Basilians! Kevvl here with the Complete Wind Archer Guide. I figured hey, since Cygnus are coming out soon, Basil needs an in-depth AGF style guide for it. This guide is loosely modeled after the AGF's project - Archer Skill Guide. Initially I was planning to put Wind Archers in that guide, but decided that due to character count issues, it would be easier to simply make this. Like most Bowman Guides, this article is not meant to be read start to finish but as a reference. Like the Archer Skill Guide, this thread attempts to avoid using bias as much as possible (although less so), by explaining why a specific skill build is necessary due to its advantages and disadvantages. Remember, this is not, by any means, a complete list of the possible skill builds. There exists nearly an infinite number of ways to distribute your skills. This is simply a listing of the most recommended.

First Job – Enter The Power Of The Wind Archer

AP Distribution?
Wind Archers have the exact same AP distribution as Hunters. Strength should be level +5, while the rest goes in Dex. Strless Wind Archers are possible, but not recommended past level 100. For more information on this, and on Bowmen in general, I suggest you read the Bowman FAQ

Focus or Storm?
When an Archer gets Storm, they'll immediately see the extreme usefulness of the skill. Storm is very helpful at low levels because it keeps mobs at bay and deals fairly decent damage. In essence, it is the first mobbing skill that a Wind Archer gets. However, Storm is extremely useful when both you and the skill are low leveled. Later on, Storm is merely a nuisance. Adding more points into the skill does not make it any more useful than it is at level 1, except that it will do slightly more damage. Being half as strong as Silver Hawk, you'll never see Storm hit over 750 damage, even when you reach the level cap. Focus on the other hand, is only slightly useful as well. It adds a small amount of Accuracy and Avoidability, which coupled with Blessing of the Fairy and a higher base AP gives Wind Archers the 3rd highest Avoidability in the game (beaten by Pure-Dex Brawlers and Thieves of any kind.) Really, the choice is up to you whether you want a slightly higher amount of Avoidability and some useless Accuracy to assist you through your Cygnus's career, or a tiny damage boost to your pitiful summon is up to you. Both skills really aren't all that great, the choice is yours.

Critical First Build
Level 10 - 1 Storm or 1 Double Shot
Level 11 - 1 Storm (1) or 1 Double Shot (1), 2 Critical
Level 12~17 - 3 Critical (20)
Level 18~23 - 3 Double Shot (19)
Level 24 - 1 Double Shot (20), 2 Eye of the Amazon
Level 25~26 - 3 Eye of the Amazon (8)
Level 27~29 - 3 Focus or 3 Storm (9)
Level 30 - 1 Focus, 2 Storm (3) or 3 Storm (13)

End Results:

Max Double Shot
Max Eye of the Amazon
Max Critical Shot
0 (or Max) Focus
3 (or 13) Storm

Explanation:
With Double Shot's minimum damage updates, it's really better to raise Critical first after 1 point in Double Shot. This is cheaper and stronger than raising double shot. Wind Archers are really no-nonsense when it comes to skills, there's not as much variety between finalized builds as there is with standard Archers. 1 point is put in Storm early on to keep mobs of 3 at bay, then Double Shot and Critical are maxed. Storm's range is shorter than a Wind Archer with maxed Eye, so it is best to leave it out for later because it keeps your mobs in range of Storm enabling higher damage. Unlike Assassins, Archers have a fairly long range to start out with, making Eye of the Amazon less important overall to training. Finally, the remaining points are placed into Focus or Storm.

Double Shot First Wind Archer Build
Level 10 - 1 Storm or 1 Double Shot
Level 11 - 1 Storm (1), 2 Double Shot (3) or 3 Double Shot (3)
Level 12~16 - 3 Double Shot (18)
Level 17 - 2 Double Shot (20), 1 Critical Shot
Level 18~23 - 3 Critical Shot (19)
Level 24 - 1 Critical Shot (20), 2 Eye of the Amazon
Level 25~26 - 3 Eye of the Amazon (8)
Level 27~29 - 3 Focus or 3 Storm (9)
Level 30 - 1 Focus (10), 2 Storm (3) or 3 Storm (13)

End Results:

Max Double Shot
Max Eye of the Amazon
Max Critical Shot
0 (or Max) Focus
3 (or 13) Storm

Explanation:
While not as powerful, this build is far more stable than the previous, which is good for (in example) assuring a 2hko rather than having a chance of a 1hko or a 3hko.

Second Job – The Straight Path

FA - do's and don't's
The one thing that'll change in a Wind Archer's 2nd job build is whether or not they get Final Attack. Unlike Final Attack for Adventurers, the Final Attack for a Cygnus Knight is an active buff that you cast. This means you can control is. Unfortunately, Final Attack only works with first job skills. A Wind Archer's only attacking skill in first job is Double Shot. Final Attack has few cons, but also very few pros.

Pros:
• FA will increase your damage over time by relatively 10% overall.
• FA fires at a faster rate than any regular attack.
• On certain HP brackets, depending on your damage, FA can act as a finisher, speeding up kills. This "finisher" effect generally has a greater impact on training rate than the sheer damage over time increase.
• It has no minimum range.
• Is a buff, rather than a passive skill, meaning you can control it to some extent
• It's pretty

Cons:
• It uses up to 30 SP, which could've been used on other skills. (This is a big one)
• FA costs MP.
• FA screws up Wind Walk.
• When FA activates, you will be unable to move for .2 seconds, leaving you vulnerable to attack and possibly take more damage.
• Because FA activates at random, it may fire when there's nothing to hit.
• Storm Break is your primary attack in 2nd job.

With all the great skills a Wind Archer has, Final Attack isn't really a priority skill. It costs a ton of SP, and raises DPM by a small amount. This skill is not recommended, but it is still an option, albeit a horrible one.

Soul Arrow's Typo
Soul Arrow says that it only works with a Crossbow in hand. This is a typo, Soul Arrow only works for Bows.

Standard FA-less Build
Level 30 - 1 Storm Break
Level 31~36 - 3 Bow Mastery (18)
Level 37 - 1 Bow Mastery (19) 2 Bow Booster
Level 38 - 3 Bow Booster (5)
Level 39 - 1 Bow Booster (6), 2 Soul Arrow (2)
Level 40~45 - 3 Storm Break (19)
Level 46 - 1 Storm Break (20), 2 Wind Walk
Level 47~48 - 3 Wind Walk (8)
Level 49 - 2 Wind Walk (10), 1 Bow Booster (7)
Level 50 - 2 Bow Booster (9), 1 Soul Arrow (3)
Level 51 - 3 Bow Booster (12)
Level 52~55 - 2 Bow Booster (20), 1 Soul Arrow (7)
Level 56~59 - 3 Soul Arrow (19)
Level 60 - 1 Soul Arrow (20), 2 Thrust
Level 61~66 - 3 Thrust (20)
Level 67 - 1 Final Attack (1), 1 Bow Mastery (20)
Level 68~70 - Raise Storm or Max Focus if you didn't in 1st job.

End Results:
Max Storm Break
Max Bow Mastery
Max Bow Booster
Max Wind Walk
Max Thrust
Max Soul Arrow
1 Final Attack
3 (or Max) Focus
13 (or Max) Storm

Explanation:
This build starts like a standard Archer's build. 1st point into a mobbing skill, then max Mastery. Once Mastery is maxed and a few points are in Soul Arrow and Bow Booster, we move back to the mobbing skill. Then, we work on Wind Walk. While Wind Walk isn't too useful in 2nd job, it really shines in 3rd. It's nice to get now because Soul Arrow and Bow Booster are just timer skills, nothing more. Adding more timer isn't too important, though nice to have. After Wind Walk is complete, it's really best to finish up Soul Arrow and Bow Booster. Alternatively, if you don't mind the timer, you can add a little Thrust beforehand also. The way I've added Booster and Soul Arrow is such that the timers are nearly synced until Bow Booster is maxed. Truthfully, you can add them in any order, but who doesn't like synced skills? Finally, we finish up the build with Thrust, a point in Final Attack for the animation, maxed Bow Mastery, and some dump skills. If you didn't max Focus in 1st job, now's the time to do it. If you did max Focus, get some Storm. If you didn't max Focus and don't want it, you can max Storm and put your last few points into Focus.

Booster and Soul Arrow Early
Level 30 - 1 Storm Break
Level 31 - 3 Bow Mastery (3)
Level 32 - 2 Bow Mastery (5), 1 Bow Booster
Level 33 - 3 Bow Booster (4)
Level 34 - 2 Bow Booster (6), 1 Soul Arrow
Level 35 - 1 Soul Arrow (2), 2 Bow Mastery (7)
Level 36~39 - 3 Bow Mastery (19)
Level 40~70 - Same as Standard Build

End Results:
Max Storm Break
Max Bow Mastery
Max Bow Booster
Max Wind Walk
Max Thrust
Max Soul Arrow
1 Final Attack
3 (or Max) Focus
13 (or Max) Storm

Explanation: This build is the exact same as the Standard Build, except for how it starts. A worthwhile alternative to Max Mastery first would be adding a little booster. While it may be annoying to cast at a low level, it's still quite effective for increasing DPS and giving you a faster shot a few levels earlier.

Storm Break Early
Level 30 - 1 Storm Break
Level 31~36 - 3 Storm Break (19)
Level 37 - 1 Storm Break (20), 2 Mastery (2)
Level 38~42 - 3 Mastery (17)
Level 43 - 2 Mastery (19), 1 Bow Booster
Level 44 - 3 Bow Booster (4)
Level 45 - 2 Bow Booster (6), 1 Soul Arrow
Level 46 - 1 Soul Arrow, 2 Wind Walk
Level 47~70 - Same as Standard Build

End Results:
Max Storm Break
Max Bow Mastery
Max Bow Booster
Max Wind Walk
Max Thrust
Max Soul Arrow
1 Final Attack
3 (or Max) Focus
13 (or Max) Storm

Explanation: Added by popular demand, this build is more of a Carnival Party Quest oriented build, and focuses entirely on fighting large quantities of monsters. Your Double Shot damage will be unstable, but you will be far more powerful with Storm Break - though that too will be unstable.

FA Build
Level 30~48 - Same as either above build.
Level 49 - 2 Wind Walk (10), 1 Final Attack
Level 50~58 - 3 Final Attack (28)
Level 59 - 2 Final Attack (30), 1 Bow Booster (7)
Level 60 - 2 Bow Booster (9), 1 Soul Arrow (3)
Level 61 - 2 Bow Booster (11), 1 Soul Arrow (4)
Level 62 - 3 Bow Booster (14)
Level 63~64 - 2 Bow Booster (18), 1 Soul Arrow (6)
Level 65~67 - 3 Thrust (9)
Level 68 - 1 Thrust (10), 1 Bow Mastery (20)
Level 69~70 - Raise Storm or Max Focus if you didn't in 1st job.

End Results:
Max Storm Break
Max Bow Mastery
Max Wind Walk
Max Final Attack
10 Thrust
6 Soul Arrow
18 Bow Booster
0 (or Max) Focus
10 (or Max) Storm

Explanation:
Final Attack. Definitely not a recommended skill, but a plausible build nonetheless. Final Attack is for those who want to be different, or believe the pros outweigh the cons. If you like dealing intense single target damage in 2nd job, go for it. This build doesn't really lose much, Soul Arrow and Booster are synced, Thrust is at 10 (where it still adds 2 speed per SP), and all other 2nd job skills are maxed. If you maxed Focus in 1st job, you'll have 10 Storm. If you ignored Focus, you can still max Storm.

Third Job – The Results of Dedication

Why Strafe is a bad idea
Unlike the "Standard" build for Rangers where Strafe is maxed first, the "Standard" Wind Archer should max Arrow Rain. Why is this? Quite frankly, Strafe is a waste of SP. It's very well possible to train with Arrow Rain until 100, and once you get Hurricane, Strafe becomes null and void. With the skill updates, level 1 Strafe does a good 71% damage, which isn't enough to train with at a high level, but it's darn strong enough to take out stragglers caused by Arrow Rain training. Additionally, Arrow Rain only costs 20 SP to max, and doesn't have Mortal Blow as a pre-requisite like Rangers do. For these reasons, Arrow Rain first is recommended. In fact, Strafe can be ignored totally, as it is impossible to max the skill and still have room to max your other, more important 3rd job skills.

Why Arrow Rain instead of Storm Break?
Storm break is slower, shoots monsters away, and has way less range, it's definitely not as good for training as Arrow Rain.

Where is Albatross?
The skill's actually Eagle Eye, the name was just changed in GMS.

Standard Wind Archer Build
Level 70 - 1 Strafe
Level 71 - 1 Wind Shot, 1 Wind Piercing, 1 Eagle Eye
Level 72~77 - 3 Arrow Rain (18)
Level 78 - 2 Arrow Rain (20), 1 Wind Piercing (2)
Level 79~84 - 3 Wind Piercing (20)
Level 85~87 - 3 Eagle Eye (10)
Level 88~93 - 3 Wind Shot (19)
Level 94 - 1 Wind Shot (20), Save 2 Points
Level 95~99 - Save 3 Points (17)
Level 100 - 20 Hurricane
Level 101~103 - 3 Puppet (9)
Level 104 - 1 Puppet (10), Save 2 Points
Level 105~109 - Save 3 Points (17)
Level 110 - 20 Bow Expertise (20)
Level 111~113 - 3 Puppet (19)
Level 114 - 1 Puppet
115~120 - 3 anywhere, ideally Strafe

End Results:
Max Arrow Rain
Max Wind Piercing
Max Wind Shot
Max Eagle Eye
Max Hurricane
Max Bow Expertise
Max Puppet
1 Strafe
20 Spare points

Explanation:
Arrow Rain is maxed maxed first for reasons stated earlier; Wind Piercing and Eagle Eye are maxed next as they are of great importance when mob training. Wind Piercing is a powerful mob skill like Arrow Rain, while Eagle Eye is required for Wind Piercing to work. Wind Shot is great when used in conjunction with Wind Piercing, the combination of both skills is perfect for training against both mobs and single targets, giving a less mob oriented training style while Eagle Eye is up. After these skills are all maxed, points are saved. The moment you get Hurricane, dump all the points you have into it. You can then add Puppet to help with single targets before saving points for Bow Expertise. Bow Expertise gets maxed the moment you get it, and then Puppet is finished off. Finally, the remaining points can go anywhere, although Strafe is probably your best bet.

Eagle Eye First Build
Level 70 - 1 Strafe
Level 71 - 1 Eagle Eye, 1 Arrow Rain, 1 Wind Piercing
Level 72~76 - 3 Wind Piercing (16)
Level 77~79 - 3 Eagle Eye (10)
Level 80 - 3 Wind Piercing (19)
Level 81 - 1 Wind Piercing (20), 2 Wind Shot (2)
Level 82~87 - 3 Wind Shot (20)
Level 88~93 - 3 Arrow Rain (19)
Level 94 - 1 Arrow Rain (20), Save 2 Points
Level 95~99 - Save 3 Points (17)
Level 100 - 20 Hurricane
Level 101~103 - 3 Puppet (9)
Level 104 - 1 Puppet (10), Save 2 Points
Level 105~109 - Save 3 Points (17)
Level 110 - 20 Bow Expertise (20)
Level 111~113 - 3 Puppet (19)
Level 114 - 1 Puppet
115~120 - 3 anywhere, ideally Strafe

End Results:
Max Arrow Rain
Max Wind Piercing
Max Wind Shot
Max Eagle Eye
Max Hurricane
Max Bow Expertise
Max Puppet
1 Strafe
20 Spare points

Explanation:
While the ending may be the same, the beginning is quite different. This build is for those who wish to be extremely powerful for a short duration of time, then relatively weaker afterward, kind of like training a Marauder. Wind Piercing is maxed first to maximize mobbing potential, then Eagle Eye. Until Eagle Eye is maxed it's best not to touch Wind Shot as Strafe is faster, making it better for taking out stragglers leftover from Arrow Rain/Wind Piercing at level 1. After Wind Piercing and Eagle Eye are maxed, you can start work on Wind Shot or Arrow Rain. This build has Wind Shot first, but they really are interchangeable depending on if you'd rather train at high spawn mobbing maps or medium spawn maps.

Strafe First Build
Level 70 - 1 Strafe
Level 71 - 1 Eagle Eye, 1 Wind Shot, 1 Wind Piercing
Level 72 - 1 Arrow Rain, 2 Strafe (3)
Level 73~78 - 3 Strafe (21)
Level 79~84 - 3 Wind Shot (19)
Level 85 - 1 Wind Shot (20), 2 Eagle Eye (3)
Level 86~87 - 3 Eagle Eye (9)
Level 88 - 1 Eagle Eye (10), 2 Wind Piercing (3)
Level 89~92 - 3 Wind Piercing (15)
Level 93 - 1 Wind Piercing (16), 2 Arrow Rain (3)
Level 94 - 1 Arrow Rain (4), Save 2 Points
Level 95~99 - Save 3 Points (17)
Level 100 - Hurricane (20)
Level 101~103 - 3 Puppet (9)
Level 104 - 1 Arrow Rain (5), Save 2 Points
Level 105~109 - Save 3 Points (17)
Level 110 - 20 Bow Expertise (20)
Level 111~114 - 3 Arrow Rain (17)
Level 115 - 3 Arrow Rain (20)
Level 116 - 3 Wind Piercing (19)
Level 117 - 1 Wind Piercing (20), 2 Puppet (11)
Level 118~120 - 3 Puppet (20)

End Results:
Max Arrow Rain
Max Wind Piercing
Max Wind Shot
Max Eagle Eye
Max Hurricane
Max Bow Expertise
Max Puppet
21 Strafe

Explanation: If one wishes to go Strafe First despite the warnings, they should use this build. Strafe is added to 21 after 1 point in various skills, before working on Wind Shot. Alternatively, Wind Shot can be substituted for Wind Piercing if you wish to train somewhere with both mobs and single targets. After Wind Shot, Eagle Eye is maxed to take full advantage of the skill, and then Wind Piercing is raised. Arrow Rain remains at a low level for most of this build, making Gobies difficult when not transformed. If anyone would like to make suggestions improve on this build, they are free to.

Skill Differences between Wind Archers and Archers
The following skills are shared between both Wind Archers and Archers:
• Double Shot
• Critical Shot
• Focus
• Eye of the Amazon
• Bow Mastery
• Soul Arrow
• Bow Booster
• Thrust
• Arrow Rain
• Strafe
• Puppet
• Hurricane
• Bow Expertise

The following skills are shared, but different in some way:

1. Focus for Wind Archers has a max level of 10, whereas Focus for Archers has a max level of 20. Level 10 Wind Archer Focus gives the same bonuses as level 20 Archer Focus.

2. Final Attack is an active buff for Wind Archers, rather than a passive skill. The skill remains unchanged otherwise.

3. Thrust is a 2nd job skill for Wind Archers, and a 3rd job skill for Rangers. The skill remains unchanged otherwise.

4. Arrow Rain maxes out at level 20 for Wind Archers. It does the same amount of damage at level 20 as a Ranger's Arrow Rain does at level 30.

5. Hurricane is acquired at level 100 for Wind Archers. It maxes out at level 20, and deals 90% damage when maxed, rather than maxing out at level 30 for 100% damage as is for Bowmasters.

6. Bow Expertise is acquired at level 110 for Wind Archers. It maxes out at level 20, and provides 80% Mastery and +7 Weapon Attack, rather than maxing out at level 30 for 90% Mastery and +10 Weapon Attack as is for Bowmasters.

7. Eye of the Amazon, Double Shot, Focus, and Arrow Rain do not have prerequisites under the Wind Archer Skill Tree.

For more information on Archer Skills, check The Archer Skill Build Guide.

In Depth Analysis of all Wind Archer Exclusive Skills

1. Storm is a 1st job skill exclusive to Wind Archers. Storm hits 3 monsters at all levels, and increases Defense while casted. Storm is very useful during low levels as it provides knockback of monsters, as well as relatively high damage. Because of Storm's relatively short range, it is most effectively used while Eye of the Amazon is at a low level. During 2nd job, Storm's damage doesn't improve much, and its usefulness diminishes with the introduction of Storm Break.

2. Storm Break is a 2nd job skill exclusive to Wind Archers. Storm Break does not consume arrows, and does not have a minimum range. Storm Break is very powerful and sends monsters very far away, making it a powerful mobbing skill. Storm Break works like a melee skill, it has a very short range. This makes training with it difficult in the sense that you cannot simply spam it - monsters would be too far away at times. Thus, Storm Break techniques generally involve either constantly advancing into enemies, or knocking them back and forth. Storm Break does not fling Boss monsters, it'll only do damage to them. It should be noted that Storm Break has a very fast casting time but a short "cooldown" between attacks. While spamming Storm Break it is possible to slowly advance towards your targets. Overall, Storm Break has a slower firing rate than most Archer skills.

3. Wind Walk is a 2nd job skill exclusive to Wind Archers. Wind Walk hides you from enemies, much like Dark Sight, although the skill itself does not last very long. Rather, it isn't a hiding skill, but an attacking skill. While attacking in the Wind Walk state, the skill will cancel, and you will fire off the attack with a damage boost. Wind Walk multiplies your damage by 130% at max, and has a relatively short casting time, making it effective while training, especially with Wind Shot and Wind Piercing.

4. Eagle Eye is a 3rd job skill exclusive to Wind Archers. Eagle Eye works like a Marauder's transformation skill. It raises Speed by 40%, Jump by 20%, and increases Defense. While in the Eagle Eye state, your character's look will change. Eagle Eye has a 120 second duration at all levels and has a 180 second cooldown when maxed, making it a skill you'll spend most of your time in while training. Wind Piercing and Wind Shot can only be used while transformed.

5. Wind Piercing is a 3rd job skill exclusive to Wind Archers. Wind Piercing is a very powerful mobbing attack and the only true ranged mobbing skill that Wind Archers have. Wind Piercing deals heavy damage, and as of recently takes nearly no time to fire, making it extremely strong. Wind Piercing can only be used while in the Eagle Eye state. When used in conjunction with Wind Walk, it is a Wind Archer's most powerful mobbing skill.

6. Wind Shot is a 3rd job skill exclusive to Wind Archers. Wind Shot fires off 3 very powerful arrows that hit one target. Wind Shot deals heavy damage, but takes 1.26 seconds to cast. Wind Shot can only be used while in the Eagle Eye state. When used in conjunction with Wind Walk, it is a Wind Archer's most powerful single target skill. (Yes, stronger than Hurricane)

Kevvl: Focus on the other hand, is only slightly useful as well. It adds a passive amount of Accuracy and Avoidability

Kevvl: 1. Focus for Wind Archers has a max level of 10, whereas Focus for Archers has a max level of 20. Level 10 Wind Archer Focus gives the same bonuses as level 20 Archer Focus.

If is Focus passive, you should add it to the second quote.

What should I cap my STR at? I'm unfunded. And I'm not sure if I can trust the FAQ. It says you could cap STR at 90 for a bow. But everyone I meet has 60 STR or less.

Cap your total strength at the level you need for your last bow, which is generally between 80 and 120. You should keep your Base-Strength 30-50 points below that, so generally 60~80 is a good number. The number 90 in the FAQ is putting into account total strength.

In the standard FA-less build (2nd Job), is it okay for me to put the last few points into FA instead of Focus/Storm? I really see no need to add points into Storm.

I am currently training at Typhons. People say you get banned there but i gained 2 whole levels there and nothing ever happened. Sorry if this is in the wrong section. But a quick question, do wind archers need a hurricane mastery book to use the skill? (Not sure if that's a noob question o.0)

alex1234181: i know you suggested not to max FA but i did and im completely satisfied with it
i left focus thrust and windwalk all at 0 i dont think i really need those skills and now i do more damage that dexless sins at my level

I hope you realize Final Attack hinders your damage in every way imaginable now that you don't have Wind Walk to assist you.

Not to mention 1/3 of Wind Shot and Wind Piercing's insane damage comes from Wind Walk.
CycIoneBIitz: In the standard FA-less build (2nd Job), is it okay for me to put the last few points into FA instead of Focus/Storm? I really see no need to add points into Storm.

FA is utterly useless.
Storm is mostly useless.
