I have a question for atheists. You believe that "something" sparked life right? Would you consider that a God, because in religious terms, that is a God? Or do you believe that life just appeared out of nowhere?
Even if evolution existed, which is probably the case, there must be something or someone that sparked evolution. For example, we all learned about spontaneous generation in ninth grade; it's virtually impossible to create life from non-life. So, my question is: We all know something must have sparked life. Is that God? Side-question: Is it even possible to consider yourself an atheist with that knowledge? Click here if you think this post is particularly interesting or helpful.

Novelist: Yeah they're called humans. Hur dur. LOL epic win. @above I'm sorry I'm to the point where if a person cannot prove to me that the earth is 6000 years old, the earth is flat (its in the bible which people who believe creationism aka intelligent design take as 100% literal truth), and dinosaurs lived alongside humans, I am not going to believe them. I mean, what is this? The Dark Ages? ReikonTaihou: LOL epic win. That is NOT intelligent design. As I initially stated: It is "Not to be confused with religion". That would include the Bible at this point. You have two options: 1. Maintain your current ideas as to what you "think" it is, disregarding the facts. 2. Be open minded and hear out the lecture already provided which explains it quite well from a non-religious standpoint. The decision is yours... keep in mind however that if you maintain #1 without any reason, our discussion is over as it cannot even get anywhere so long as presumption gets in the way. ReikonTaihou: see the thing about intelligent design is, well, it IS religion, and its unaccepted by the scientific community. Technically it isn't a religion, its the best scientific offer the religious fundamentalist people can come up with to back their standpoint up with, however many religious people accepts evolution too. I see a contradiction in the fact that people don't seem to want to believe that life started on its own, but that life was designed. Except that requires intelligence of something else - namely, life. Where did the life come from, that intelligently designed our life? The concept of a god having always existed just doesn't fly with me. That would the most fundamental law of our universe, that of entropy. OK, god is outside our universe, which still doesn't make any sense. And all arguments just get circular from there. God is just a concept to explain the unknown and unlikely.
To my reasoning, it is clear that where there was originally no life, but all the fundamental building blocks of life, life arose. Perhaps it was extraordinarily improbable, but that leaves a chance, however small. And the fact that we are all discussing this now, shows that regardless of how unlikely life spontaneously arose, it did. I say it again, it is (in my own opinion) the result of unlimited time and chance. What created god then? It confuses me on how people put so much faith in something they cant see. I want to find a religion, but tangible facts are what i go for, and there's a lot of unanswered questions with religions. So I'll stick to science until god or a ghost smacks me in the face.
Mindstormer: And yet, there still exists instances of irreducible complexity which argues for intelligent design (not to be confused with religion), among other things. Here's a recording of a speaker (Dr. Standish was his name I believe) at my college just last week on the topic: http://simurl.com/nurjor (Disclaimer: He's more of a scientist than a speaker though, so this isn't particularly intended for the understanding of elementary or early high school age individuals). Please, can I have an example of "Irreducable complexity"? So who created god?

If its an ID "scientist" then i bet he's more a speaker... I'm christian so I don't believe in any of that.
What started the big bang? If there was nothing how did the thing that started it come? Evolution? Do I look like a fish/monkey/platapus to you? Not really. Lostmage333: I'm christian so I don't believe in any of that. What started the big bang? If there was nothing how did the thing that started it come? Evolution? Do I look like a fish/monkey/platapus to you? Not really. We do not know what caused big bang, if you actually read some of the posts you would know that was already answered. Evolution is a fact, and who says you should be looking like a fish when you're not one? EDIT and who said there was nothing before big bang, there might have been, we don't know anything about before big bang. and the way you talk about it is making it sound stupid, while its not. Your ridiculous claims that evolution is not true cause you do not look like a fish is just silly and stupid. I could make fun of your belief too, well, hahaha, you think that snakes and burning bushes can talk. LiangPeiJie: So who created god? Let's just say for a moment that the big bang theory is THE TRUTH All the matter that exists was packed to almost inexistant space BUT, where did that matter come from? If that question can be answered, existance of God will be proven or the other way around If God is proven to exist he has existed forever, created by a higher god, just appeared from nothing. There are too many ways for me to put in this post I don't want to explain more, but you should get the idea Arho: Let's just say for a moment that the big bang theory is THE TRUTH All the matter that exists was packed to almost inexistant space BUT, where did that matter come from? I'd be willing to bet that you may well change that misconception were you to listen to and actually follow along with that link. One major aspect of Intelligent design is that it in fact challenges religion and a concept of God. I did add a disclaimer to my previous post however.
