Everything you need to know about Androids here!

Recently there has been an influx of questions regarding Androids, probably because of the Legends Awards Coin Shop in December 2011- January 2012 that allowed the average player to get their hands on what used to be super expensive android recipes.
When replying to these threads I realised basilmarket lacked a guide on Androids, most likely because they were originally rare and not much more than a symbol of wealth among high levelled players, and thus the average mapler and/or basiler had little interest in them other than slight curiosity.

Since I'm tired of repeating myself in threads on the exact same topic, I bring you today every bit of information I've collected about Androids, all in this one guide

What are Androids?

Androids are creepy robot dolls (ok, Nexon calls them "companions" ) of either gender that follow your character around. They were released with the Chaos: Age of Artisans update and can be crafted with level 10 Smithing. They wear NX clothing, and NX clothing only, with slots for Helm, Gloves, Mantle, Top, Bottom, Shoes and Face.
Noble: Maybe you should include a section on how to equip NX clothes on Androids because I couldn't figure it out for the longest time cause my Android tab was hidden
To access the Android tab, open your Equipment tab (default hotkey E) and click on the little blue button at the bottom labelled "A.D". It's next to the other blue button for Pet equipment. You can change Android's clothes by dragging and dropping CS items onto the slots for Android's equipment.

So... what are they for other than playing dress up with?

The most commonly asked question on basilmarket: WHY would you bother with an Android?
The most common answer: Hearts.
Androids will only function with an Android Heart equipped. There are varying levels of hearts available, just as there are different types of Androids available. These hearts not only allow your Android to be seen, but also come with 0 - 7 scrollable slots depending on the heart, and can be potential'd. Oooh yes, this is where damage gardening tools begin to take interest.

Androids and Android Hearts

Regular and Deluxe Androids can be crafted with recipes. These recipes are one-time-use; you will need a recipe for each Android that you make. Princessroids were available from the Magic Music Box event.

Regular androids (both M and F) are untradeable once equipped. Males start off with a blue suit and silver headgear with a blue tip. Females start off with a blue maid outfit (lol) and silver headgear with a pink tip.

Deluxe Androids (both M and F) and Princessroid may be traded using Platinum Scissors of Karma. Deluxe Androids start off with the same kind of clothes as regular androids, but in black with half pink half silver headgear (F) or half blue half silver headgear (M). Princessroid's clothes are pink (of course) with half pink half silver headgear.

One more thing... Miss Princessroid TALKS, literally. Turn on your sounds. Click on her and she'll talk to you in Korean. I imagine something seductive

Silver hearts and Lidium hearts are currently unobtainable in GMS. Beaded hearts came from an event and from what I know, there is no such recipe to craft one.
All hearts that currently exist in GMS can be potential'd and have a requirement of level 30 to equip. Like any other crafted item, any hearts you make will have a chance of coming out with hidden potential.
According to AptChilltime of Southperry:
AptChilltime: Crystal hearts last 21 days and cannot be extended(expiration date is 12/29 as of 12/8). I also recieved an android coupon from the magic box event, with it included a male android and a beaded heart. Beaded hearts also expire and only last 20 days and only have 1 slot.
darkspawn980: gold/garnet/crystal hearts last three weeks

The recipes for the hearts are permanent. You can remake hearts as many times as you like as long as you have the materials.

Hearts can be shared between Androids on the same character. That is, if you have two Androids but one heart, the heart will function for both (but you can equip only one Android at a time).
Regular Androids can equip Silver, Beaded, Iron, Adamantium and Gold Hearts.
Deluxe Androids can equip Silver, Beaded, Iron, Adamantium, Garnet and Crystal Hearts.
Princessroid can equip all hearts including Lidium Heart.
These hearts can be scrolled with any kind of scroll, whether it's 100% scrolls from NPCs or 60%s or 50%s (although unless you're that rich/insane, noone's going to spend hundreds of mils on a time-limited item). Potential and Equip Enhancement scrolls also work. You can even go so far as to cube your Android Hearts, but again, clinically insane.

Android Appearance

Regular Androids will have a random hair, hair colour, eyes and eye colour from a limited range of options upon equipping the heart. You can use VIP/REG hair, VIP/REG hair colour, VIP/REG eye (but not eye colour) and skin colour coupons to change your Android's appearance. There is an Android Beautician, Lauren, in the Heneseys Hair Salon who deals with all your Android beauty needs.

Deluxe Androids have a very small chance of being born with royal hair, while Princessroid is born with different hair to that of the stylist options from Android Beautician, often Royal. Princessroid often begins with red Lively Waved hair and Pucker Up Face (nawww, isn't she adorable?) or other normally android-unobtainable Royal styles such as Hime hair, depending on your luck.

The list of hairstyles and faces at the Android Beautician are the same for both regular and Deluxe Androids and cover most GMS VIP/REG styles.

Android commands and actions: Make your blow up doll do faces at you!

For the most part, Androids will be staring blankly into space (if your Android has Angel Glow face like mine, their gazes look slightly dopey/deadbeat). Occasionally they will f1 and do the alert pose when you get hit. However, they also seem to show signs of affection to you at times:
When you log in, exit from cash shop/MTS or change channels
Android will smile (f2) or wink. Princessroid will do this and also talk to you in Korean.
When you level up
Android will either f6 you and say "Not bad!" in a little chat box above its head, or do sparkly eyes and say "Amazing!"
When you die
Android will either cry (f4) and say "Noooo!" or do the whoa-whoa face and say "Master!". Or "Masteeer!" if it is a failure at spelling. Or if yours is completely apathetic and unconcerned with you, just continue staring off into nothing. I'm heartbroken when this happens :c

You can also command your Android to make faces. The following is a list I've gathered and tested so far, feel free to add some more. All commands must be typed exactly as shown (ie. with the capital letter at the beginning) in order for it to show. You can type these commands into a sentence and it will work, as long as you have that capital letter. For example, typing "you suck Haha" or "Hoho I'm Santa" will make your Android F2
As you'll notice, some commands are just variants of the original (eg. Kiss is the actual command for smoochies face) but since people seem to prefer saying "Smoochies" as opposed to "Smooch", I've included the most common sayings as well.
F2
Commands: Haha | Hoho
F4
Commands: Boohoo
F7
Commands: Whoa
F5
Commands: Grr
Queasy
Commands: Yuck | Gross
Kissy face
Commands: Smooch | Smoochie | Smoochies | Kiss | Kissy
Googoo
Commands: I love you
Sparkly eyes
Commands: Wow | Totally | Awesome | Yay

Q&A

Q: Can my Android wear regular equips?
A: No, Cash Shop items only.

Q: How do I change my Android's appearance?
A: You can use VIP hair, VIP hair colour, VIP eye and skin colour coupons on your Android by speaking with the Android specialist located at Heneseys Hair Salon.

Q: Can I equip multiple Androids and/or hearts?
A: No. Your character currently only has one Android slot and one Heart slot available. You can, however, have multiple Androids in your inventory as they are not one-of-a-kind items.

Q: What's the difference between regular Androids, Deluxe Androids and Princessroid?
A: Deluxe Androids can equip all the hearts regular Android can equip plus the Garnet and Crystal Heart, while Princessroid can equip all hearts including Lidium Heart.
Deluxe Androids have a small chance of being born with royal hair, Princessroid is always born with hair/eyes different to that of regular Androids (eg. Lively Waved).

Q: After my Android Heart expires, will the stats be kept if I equip a new heart?
A: No. Each heart should be treated like a separate item. They all expire in 2 or 3 weeks (depending) and every time you replace them they will be clean. The stats do not "save" onto the Android itself.

Q: Can I extend the time limit on my Hearts?
A: No. (I'm saying no a lot huh?)

Q: Help! I can't find Android Heart scrolls!
A: You should have read my guide dammit. Android Hearts can be scrolled with literally any kind of scroll. Whether it's 30% or 60%, Scroll for Claw for Attack or Scroll for Blunt Weapon for Accuracy, you name it. Potential and Equip Enhancement scrolls also work.

Q: Can I name my Androids?
A: Right now, no. Between November 16 and November 30, 2011 there was a Cash Shop event that allowed you to buy an Android naming coupon for 1200 NX. They might come back in the future, who knows?

Q: You're a no-life for writing this much on a topic barely anyone cares about.
A: You're right.

Androids are super cheap right now thanks to the most recent event. They're basically for showing off and for hearts
