BannedStory is an animated character simulator for the PC game MapleStory. It simulates the appearance of the MapleStory character wearing different clothes. These clothes are the ones that appear in the MapleStory versions of GMS, JMS and MapleSEA. Another great feature that this simulator has is that you can animate the character. The animations and timing are the same as the ones that appear in the real game. Here is a complete list of features of the simulator:- Animated. You can navigate through each frame of all animation states.- All equips for GMS, JMS and MapleSEA - All faces and hair styles - Custom skin color and hair color - Rotation and mirror - Zooming - Load/save your character builds - Animated pets - Adobe Photoshop JavaScript code generator The simulator was made using Adobe Flash 8. It works by loading the images (.png image files) of the items into the simulator. But for the images to be loaded and displayed correctly, the simulator also uses external files which holds the information regarding to positioning, naming, categorizing, etc. This 'data' files are xml files. XML files are just text files with the .xml file extension. You can open any xml file with any text editor, even NotePad. But to reduce file size, line feeds were removed, showing everything inside the xml as a single line. You can use XMLPad to give the code an xml structure format. It has most of the features, except that it does not work with skills. BannedStory QuickMaker: You can also use this one directly from this web site. This type only works with codes and it only can make the character and the pet, with their corresponding clothes. It also can save images. BannedStory Offline: This is the full, downloadable BannedStory. It has all the features, including skills and image loading, but it cannot save images. This section explains all you need to do to install BannedStory on your computer. Important Notes: * BannedStory no longer has its own installer. You have to place the files manually in your computer. * Previous versions of BannedStory are incompatible with this new version. I suggest you remove your previous BannedStory, in case you have one. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ First time install You only have to install BannedStory once. New images and new program versions will come in the form of patches, so that you don't constantly download the whole base file. Do not run BannedStory from within the zip file, otherwise it will not work. You will need a zip extraction program to properly install BannedStory. You can use whatever program you like, but I do recommend Winrar, in case you don't have one. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Downloads Here you will find all the files needed to use BannedStory Offline. Patches with new images, program fixes and other relevant downloads will be placed here as well. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ BannedStory complete package If you don't want to go through all the process of manually installing BannedStory, you can use the complete packages. These setups are made by friends of the BannedStory community. Just download the file that best fits for you, install, and you are done (they have everything you need to use BannedStory Offline). By using these files (either downloading and/or installing), you agree that I do not take any responsability for any trouble that may arise with your computer. Since I am not the one who made these files, there's a chance that they might not have the same content from the ones I distribute. BannedStory Installer (Windows) BannedStory Installer (MAC) BannedStory Installer (Other Versions) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ BannedStory manual installers As the name implies, the following files are needed to manually install BannedStory. Both files are needed (the base file, and the program/patch file). The BannedStory program packages only contain the program itself, and the relevant program files. It does not contain the images. The images are contained in the BannedStory base file and in the patches. The base files are packed in two formats: as zips and 7-zips. Check that your extraction program opens the specified format before you download it. BannedStory base file: The base file is only required if you are planning to manually install BannedStory. You don't need to download all of the following files, just pick the one that best fits for you. The base file you choose must be the FIRST file you install. After you have downloaded and installed the base file, proceed to download and install the program/patch file. Base File (110 MB zip) Base File (75.5 MB 7-zip) BannedStory program/patch file: Choose the appropriate file for your computer. The program/patch file includes the BannedStory program itself, as well as new additions for the simulator. The program/patch you download from the list below must be installed AFTER the base file. IMPORTANT: If you have placed custom items into BannedStory, make a backup of your custom item thumbnails and xml lists before applying the patch! They will be overwritten. BannedStory 2.0 - HTML (1.62 MB) BannedStory 2.0 - Mac (5.19 MB) BannedStory 2.0 - Windows (2.88 MB) These are the steps to install the bannedstory manually: Step One: After you have downloaded the files listed above, you need to make an empty folder in your computer. Choose wisely the location of that folder to avoid long path name problems. For this example, I will make the empty folder in C:, and will name it "BannedStory". Step Two: Go back to the folder where you downloaded the required files, and open the base file (for this example, I'am using Winrar as my extraction program) When Winrar opens, choose the option "Commands > Extract to the specified folder". A new window should appear. Now, locate the folder you had created. Press OK. Step Three: After the extraction ends, your BannedStory folder should now look like this Step Four: Repeat step 2, but with the file that holds the program. After you have finished, your BannedStory folder should look like this. If you wish, you can make a shortcut of the BannedStory program to your desktop. Now BannedStory is successfully installed! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ BannedStory 2.1 BETA is now closed, please download the complete package! BannedStory 2.1 BETA The BannedStory 2.1 BETA enables BannedStory Offline to save images (PNG) or Adobe JavaScript codes (JSX). Please note that this is still a BETA, so it might have bugs or limitations. BannedStory 2.1 BETA has support ONLY for Windows. BannedStory 2.1 BETA - Windows (305 KB) How to use: * THE FIRST THING you need to do is download and install the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) in your computer. Without this runtime, BannedStory 2.1 BETA will not work. To get the Adobe runtime, go to this page: link # After you have installed AIR, extract the contents of the BannedStory 2.1 BETA in the folder where you installed BannedStory 2.0. # To use BannedStory 2.1 BETA, you have to execute the program named "BannedStoryAIR". # There are now two separate buttons under the Save Window: Save PNG, Save JSX. Both will save the corresponding files IN THE DESKTOP. The BETA still doesn't have an option to save to a specific location. # If you press the "Save PNG" button, a folder named "BannedStory Image Sequence" will appear on the desktop. Every time you press this button, a new PNG image will appear in that folder. # The "Save JSX" button saves the Adobe JavaScript code. When pressed, a folder named "BannedStory Image Sets" will appear on the desktop. Inside this folder, you will find a collection of folders, or sets. Each set contains all the images of your current build, as well as a JSX script file. The JSX script file can be opened by Photoshop (just dragging the script file inside Photoshop) to load all the images as layers of a single document. A new set is generated every time you press the "Save JSX" button. # You don't need to delete your current BannedStory 2.0 program. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The user interface is the visual appearance and control of BannedStory. It is arranged in four main sections: * Item Buttons * Canvas * Left Control Panel * Right Control Panel Each one of these sections is composed of one ore more boxes called panels (or buttons, as in the case of the item buttons). Each of these panels serve an specific purpose, which are going to be discussed later. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Item Buttons All the images you can use to build your character, pet or skill are arranged in four buttons that lie at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on each of these buttons will bring their corresponding option window. Each section of those windows has its own options, which are in the box in the right upper corner of the window. Each of the options is represented by icons: * Paper icon: enable/disable the appearance of custom items. * Star icon: enable/disable the appearance of original items (the ones from MapleStory). * Gender icons: filter images according to their gender. * Color icons: load the selected image with the specified color. When you press any of these option icons, a green glow will appear around the icon, indicating that it is selected. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Char Button Pressing this button will bring the window used to configure the character body, hair styles and face expressions. From now on, the thumbnails for hair styles and face expressions will always be black, but you can specify the color of the loaded images using the color icons in the options box. To choose a different face expression, click on any of the available face expressions that appear in the face section. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Equips Button When you click this button, the window with all the character clothes shows up. Character clothes are arranged in three main categories: Accessories, Clothes and Weapons. Clicking on each category will show the subcategories it has. After you have selected the subcategory, you have to select a job at the top of the window. The jobs are the same as in the MapleStory game itself, with an extra job called “NX”, which stands for the items you can buy with NX cash in the game. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Pet Button This button brings up the pet configuration window. In this window you can choose the pet, as well as the pet clothes. The pet clothes update automatically each time you choose a different pet. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Skill Button Pressing this button will show the skill window. The skill window is arranged in four main categories, each one representing one of the main jobs of MapleStory. Pressing on any category will bring up the subcategories each job has, which are the skill categories from the game. The skill button is only available in the Offline BannedStory. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Frequently Asked Questions The following questions refer to the latest version of BannedStory. 1. What is BannedStory? BannedStory is a program used to dress a cartoon-like character from the online game MapleStory. You can make a character with the clothes featured in the game. Besides the character, you can also make the pets with their corresponding clothes, as well as most of the special effects from the game (known as “skills”). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Is BannedStory a game? No, BannedStory is not a game, neither a replacement for MapleStory. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. It is safe to use BannedStory? First of all, no one is forcing you to use it. If you don't wan't to have BannedStory in your computer, you could just use the online version of BannedStory. All content that you can download from this site is free from malware or spyware. But I still recommend that you scan everything that you may download. BannedStory does not install anything that may modify your computer. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5. Why BannedStory has so many files? BannedStory uses almost all the images from the items that exist in MapleStory. Currently, there are about 5,000+ items in use. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 6. What is QuickMaker? QuickMaker is an alternative to BannedStory. It only works online, and currently, it only works with codes to load the images. You can use QuickMaker to save your build as an image without downloading BannedStory, or using the online BannedStory. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 7. How do I install BannedStory in my computer? Read the installation instructions in the reference manual. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 8. Can I still use the old BannedStory with the new one? BannedStory 1.x is totally incompatible with the new one. Since it will no longer be used, you can remove it from your computer. To remove it, uninstall it. If uninstalling it gives you problems, just delete the folder where it is (it should take a time). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 9. How do I save what I had made in BannedStory? If you are using the online versions (BannedStory Online and QuickMaker) you can directly save your image as a png image file. If you are using BannedStory Offline, you have to make a print screen of your window, or you could try using the BannedStory 2.1 BETA that can be found in the downloads section. You can also generate a special code, which is just an XML string, that you can use re-load your build. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 10. Why does BannedStory Offline can't save images? Flash still can't save files by itself. It needs other technologies in order to access the users disk. BannedStory Online uses a PHP code in order to save the image. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 11. I can't see some parts of BannedStory Online? BannedStory Online needs a screen resolution of 1024x768 or above. Try pressing the "Fullscreen" button at the top right corner of the window. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 12. Why does BannedStory Online or QuickMaker can't have the Skill animations? Most of the skill files are too heavy to have them online. They will consume too much bandwidth. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 13. How can I put maps in BannedStory? First, you need to get your maps from somewhere else. BannedStory does not have any map images. After you have the images, load them inside BannedStory using the load picture option. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 14. How do I make an animation in BannedStory? BannedStory does not make animations. To make an animation using BannedStory, you need to make a sequence of images, then load all those images in your prefered video animation software. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 15. How do I load a picture in BannedStory? Using the load picture option, under the Layer Manager window. To load a picture, you have to write the path of the image. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 16. When I run BannedStory in my computer, it says "Data could not be found" or "Thumbnails could not be found.", what's that? Those messages appear if BannedStory was unable to find either the thumbnails or the data. Check that you have the folders "dat" and "thumbs" in the root folder of BannedStory. Also check that you have all the required files in those folders. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 17. Where is the Photoshop script code generator? Right now, BannedStory doesn't have support for the Photoshop code (Adobe JavaScript JSX). But you could try using the BannedStory 2.1 BETA, which can generate such code. You can get the BannedStory 2.1 BETA in the downloads section. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 18. When I write my build code in BannedStory and press OK, nothing happens. Why? If the code is not well written, it is ignored. Also, items in the code that are incorrect or have missing words are ignored. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 19. I can no longer select anything else after I click my custom item. What's going on? Probably the data of the last clicked item was not well written. Check it with XMLPad. Also check that the data has the appropiate structure, state names or frame names, and that all the images used in the data exists in your custom item. If such an error occurs, you have to restart BannedStory. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 20. The hair is displayed incorrectly in BannedStory, why? Ok, since many of you'll are having trouble saving i made a guide: 1.First Press Alt+Print Screen when the simulator is open. link 2.Open paint and go to Edit-->Paste. link 3.Use the select tool to select the character. link 4.Go to Edit-->Cut. link 5.Go to File-->New. link 6.Go to Edit-->Paste. link 7.Click on the small blue box at the end of the white are to make the sheet smaller and appear like this link 8.Go to File-->Save to save ur character. link ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paint.net is a free program that is similar to photoshop if u want to use it: link 2.Generate (Character Code) Generates the code of your character settings. The code is automatically selected after pressing the button. Copy the code and paste it in any text editor. 3.Generate (Adobe JavaScript Code) Generates an Adobe JavaScript code for your character settings. The generated code is only for the VISIBLE FRAME only. Here is the list of steps you have to follow for it to work: 1) First choose which state and which frame you want to generate. 2) Press the Generate button from the Adobe JavaScript Code section. 3) Copy the code that appears in the text box. 4) Open Notepad (a text editor), and paste the code there. 5) In the 'File' menu, choose 'Save As...'. 6) In the 'Type' box, choose the last option (it should be something like 'All files' or 'Any type'). 7) In the 'Name' box, write whatever name PLUS the following: .jsx (dot jsx) 8) Press OK and close the file. 9) Now in Photoshop, go to File > Scripts > Browse... 10) Locate the file you just created in Notepad. 11) Enjoy! You can download the trial version of Adobe PhotoShop from here (30 day trial): link The code is automatically selected after pressing the button. Copy the code and paste it in any text editor. For now, the code only loads your character and pet, it does not apply the color filters for the skin or hair style. Important: This code was only tested in Photoshop CS2, running over Windows XP. If you are using another OS and the code does'nt work, try changing the value of the first variable in the code (simPath), with the path where the root folder of the simulator is. I get the tumpnail not found thingy yet I have Dat IMG Thumbnail Bannedstory.exe Thingy in it ._. I extracted the weapons folder in it but now I'm confused o.o New Blog: My New Account
Thats the point of the whole package, the extract thing is if your doing it manually
