The Chief Bandit is the only true combo fighter in Maple Story. Rather then rely on one skill for all situations the Chief Bandits arsenal has skills for each and every situation. II. Skill Comparisons. -See the end of the guide in order to see each skill's effects level-by-level. Assaulter- [Master Level: 30] Type: Active Skill Description: Attacks one enemy with incredible power and speed. Enemy can even be stunned on a low success rate. My comments: This skill is a very welcome skill for Chief Bandits. It is relatively strong and the added teleport is very welcome. The only problem with this skill is that its quite slow, even with dagger booster. This is a problem for all Chief Bandit as we rely on speed to train. This skill is very effective at one hit k.o monsters and if used correctly. There are several forms of trick assaulters that will help you train faster. Assaulter can be used to reach higher platforms in maps rather then climbing or walking. This is extremely helpful as it lets you move from platform to platform while attacking. For high levels Assaulter becomes very useful. If your level is higher then that of the monster the monsters weapon defense is negated. The stun, at 80% maxed, is very useful at higher levels of Assaulter. Band of Thieves- [Master Level: 30] Type: Active Skill Description: Summons fellow bandits to attack a few monsters around the area. Can attack up to 6. My comments: This move is the first mob move that you will get not counting meso explosion. BoT can attack twice a second roughly. At max it does 210% a hit and hits 6 enemies. Thats a whopping 1260% twice a second. BoT is very efficient as it has quite a large hit radius. To use BoT you have to physically attack a monster in a mob. The attackers in BoT will then appear and hit at the monsters surrounding you. However the MP usage is very heavy. At max it costs 50 MP every use. Id suggest not using BoT unless 3 or more monsters are present to minimize costs. Meso Guard- [Master Level: 20] Type: Supportive Skill Description:Uses mesos to guard 50% of the damage received. Once the skill is used, it saves up a certain amount of mesos, and once damaged from then on out, the mesos will be used based on the damage received. The skill will be turned off when the saved mesos are used up. My comments: This skill has quite a confusing description. The in game description says: Uses mesos to guard 50% of the damage received. Once the skill is used, it saves up a certain amount of mesos, and once damaged from then on out, the mesos will be used based on the damage received. The skill will be turned off when the saved mesos are used up. This description is complete failure. When this skill is turned on it takes all damage from you and halves it, taking mesos from you for the damage halved. At level 1 it takes 90% mesos, but when you reach level 20 it takes 78%. This saves you money. It has been proven that the money taken is cheaper then using a potion for the same damage. For example say you take 2000 damage from a Wolf Spider. At level 1 Meso Guard halves the damage to 1000 and takes 900 mesos from your inventory. The potion that heals 1000 HP costs 1,045 mesos. You save 145 mesos per hit. And on top of saving mesos, it also saves you time/potions. By halving the damage, that means half the usual potions. That practically means more slots for potions, which means more time to train. Meso Guard is very important when facing higher level monsters and bossing. Sometimes, this skill can save you from a one hit KO. At level 80, you can survive almost any boss, even for lengthy periods of time, if you watch your HP with appropriate potions. This skill is highly needed for Chief Bandits. Meso Explosion- [Master Level: 30] Type: Active Skill Description: Explodes the mesos dropped on the ground around you to attack monsters. The mesos from the monsters killed by someone else will not be able to be used for this. My comments: This skill is by far the most damaging skill in the game. At level one if you drop big enough bags it can deal 6 digit numbers. At maxed level this skill can blow up to 20 bags with one usage. This skill is the driving force of all Zakum runs, allowing them to be efficient and speedy. This skill takes some time to set up however which is its biggest flaw. This skill is efficient when coupled with pickpocket. However unless you explode the pickpocket coins on a mob it will do significantly less then a six-hit Savage Blow will. Meso Explosion is useful in certain maps and will gain you rather large amounts of experience. An example of this is Gobies where Meso Explosion can be used to its full advantage. A problem with Meso Explosion is its efficiency. In any normal circumstance Meso Explosion is not an efficient skill to use. The time it takes to set it up is not worth the damage. Also when dropping bags you may get looted, which seriously impedes your ability to explode. Furthermore, Meso Explosion will take a rather large chunk out of your pocket when used frequently. Pickpocket- [Master Level: 20] Type: Supportive Skill Description: Makes the enemy drop mesos for a certain period of time. The amount of mesos dropped depends on the damage and the skill level. My comments: This brings us back to the versatility of Chief Bandits. This skill is used in combo with Meso Explosion and Savage Blow/Band of Thieves. After you activate this skill, you pretty much just SB like crazy, and if possible, make a mob using BoT. After Pickpocket has laid enough coins on the ground and BoT has brought a big enough mob to the trap, you explode. As mentioned earlier, if you do not explode the coins on a mob, it will do significantly less than a six-hit Savage Blow will. Though not an absolute necessary skill, it is useful. It's also perceived as a fun skill, allowing you to explode more frequently without losing any meso. This skill is pretty much an add-on to meso explosion. This skill also covers the normal flaw that Meso Explosion has, as it sets the coins for you gradually and it doesn't take the money from your pocket. Of course, the meso dropped isn't too much. At level one pickpocket drops a coin at a 22% chance per hit. In my experience, the coins dropped have a value of 7-32 mesos. At higher levels, the success rate of coins dropping increases, and so do the value of the coins. Personally, I am not sure of the value range, but I have seen gold coins being dropped from higher leveled players using pickpocket, which means the maximum amount is above 50 mesos. In conclusion, this skill should be maxed while maxing Meso Explosion, or relatively after. Pickpocket is a great skill to have. If youre pressed for mesos you can always pick up the mesos that Pickpocket drops making about 10-50 more mesos on one hit monsters. Shield Mastery- [Master Level: 20] Skill Description: Increases the def. of the equipped shield. Only works when the shield is equipped. My comments: This skill is much worse then Chakra. For us DEF does nothing. The doubled DEF will take at most 60 - 70 damage off. Dont add points into this skill. Chakra- [Master Level: 30] Skill Description: Uses MP to recover HP. Only works when the HP is less than 50%, and it'll stop if either attacked or moved. My comments: This skill is the biggest waste of skill points in existence. At max it recovers more HP then you will need. Furthermore it takes time to use, in which you are left vulnerable to attacks. Level 3 Chakra is as useful as level 30 is. The only time Ive ever used it besides for looks was when I was at 98% and needed pots. Even then level 3 chakra was more then enough. Although this skill is not very useful you will have a surplus of points in your later levels. If everything else useful is maxed out the points should go into Chakra rather then Shield Mastery. Does Assaulter ignore monster W.Def? Credits to Loose of Bera for the calculations. Iron Hogs have 300 Weapon Defence, which is pretty high. I tried getting screenshots of the closest to maximum damage hits. I was also bored. This is extremely helpful as in higher levels monsters have fairly high W.Def. III. Skill builds. There are several different skill builds that a Chief Bandit will use. All these depend on a) How rich you are. b) What gear you posses. c) Where you plan to train. There are three mainstream builds commonly used these days. The builds are, meso explosion first, Band of Thieves first, and Assaulter first. Each build has its own unique training maps. Assaulter first: This build is for those who want to take on tougher monsters first. For the first few levels youll be training at FoG. That is until you get a decent Assaulter and Meso Guard. After level 79 you can move into DTs and possibly Himes/Dreamy Ghosts. Assaulter first allows you to have a stronger attack and therefore take on tougher monsters. 70: 1 Assaulter 71: 4 Assaulter 72: 7 Assaulter 73: 10 Assaulter 74: 10 Assaulter - 3 chakra 75: 10 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 76: 13 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 77: 16 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 78: 19 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 79: 22 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 80: 25 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 81: 28 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 82: 30 Assaulter - 3 chakra - 3 Meso Guard 1 Meso Explosion At this point you decide what you want to do next. A dead Chief Bandit cant really do much. After this point you can add points into what you want really. Id suggest maxing out Pickpocket over Chakra and Shield Mastery. *Note: This is assuming that you have maxed Darksight. Maxed Darksight is crucial to a Chief Bandit. However you will be there for a very long time. This build allows almost no variety of training areas. At this time only a few maps in gMS allow for efficient training with BoT. All of these maps are for the 7 - 9x section though. With the introduction of Leafre, training with max BoT is now possible for 9x+. 70: 1 Assaulter 71: 1 Assaulter - 3 BoT 72: 1 Assaulter - 6 BoT 73: 1 Assaulter - 9 BoT 74: 1 Assaulter - 12 BoT 75: 1 Assaulter - 15 BoT 76: 1 Assaulter - 18 BoT After this there's two options: 1) We leave BoT at 18 for now because higher level BoT isnt needed until later when you face monsters in Ludi. 2) We max BoT so you can train at Kents and Wolf Spiders. This will save you lots of mesos. 81: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 22 Assaulter 82: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 25 Assaulter 83: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 28 Assaulter 84: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 1 BoT 85: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 4 BoT 86: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 7 BoT Here Ill add BoT to handle gobies if you miss. 87: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 10 BoT 88: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 13 BoT 89: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 16 BoT 90: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 19 BoT 91: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 22 BoT 92: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 25 BoT 93: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 28 BoT 94: 3 Meso Explosion - 3 chakra 6 Meso Guard 30 Assaulter 30 BoT 1 Pickpocket At this point you can choose three directions. You can: Max MG Max PP Max ME The best way is to get a mix of MG and ME, adding PP every 5 levels or so. Equipment is rather straight forward for Bandits. Regular DEX: You can get the level sets as they increase or get a LUK Sauna. Make sure your WG and Weapon is good enough before you start buying LUK Saunas though. The attack is worth much more then LUK will ever be. If you dont want to get a LUK Sauna though try to get the best pirate set available. With the DEX bottom and top LUK scrolls out from Zingapu you can try your best to scroll. They are slightly expensive though. Low DEX: Get a good DEX Sauna robe. Make sure you have enough total DEX to equip your level 80 weapon. Again make sure your weapon and glove is top notch before investing in other things. Remember spending money on DEX equips and having a bad weapon will not be worth it. Attack is worth much more then LUK in higher levels. V. Training Spots. 70 - 80: FoG or Water Goblins. Each has great spawn. You should be able to one or two hit them. I recommend these places because they have nice flat maps which help you out a lot. Since your Assaulter level wont be that high for these levels I suggest that you stay in these two spots. Also recommended is Straw Dummies in Mu Lung. They move very slowly and are great for training as the map is flat. FoG will always be crowded so you might want to skip it for Gryphons at this point. If all these maps are full Coolie Zombies are a good second choice. Failing this you can always go to Hot Sands. Even if you did the meso explosion first build Id advise that you build up your money at a training map until level 72 when you obtain Meso Guard. You can do Gobies at 70 though, but have to be extra careful. Voodoos and Hoodoos are an excellent choice. They mob and its a small map. However watch out. The maps are hard to find. YnP ( Yetis N Pepes) are also an excellent choice now that the map has been redone. The spawn is very, very fast. 80 - 90: At this point Hot Sands, Straw Dummies, and Water Goblins will be very, very slow. Gryphons will be good for a Bandit that has a decent BoT level. At this point you may be able to take on Wolf Spiders. Id suggest that you do at least 2k with BoT if you decide to go there. FoG still remains a relatively good place to train. You may have to obtain a bottom platform to have a decent chance of training there. At this point you may be able to take on Death Teddies. However Id recommend that you have meso guard as these guys hit hard. As always Gobies will be there also. It slows down quite a bit now; youll have to spend much more to level. Voodoos and Hoodoos are an excellent choice. They mob and its a small map. However watch out. The maps are hard to find. For those who went Assaulter first, Birks are very, very good. They have a better exp to HP ratio, then DTs and have amazing drops. If you went BoT first, at late 8x, with decently good equips, Kentauruses might be great exp as well. Just remember to be mobby. They have quite the great drops too. Windraiders are godly exp at this point. 90 -100: Himes may be a possibility for those who have good gear. Id suggest getting a Priest and Dragon Knight if you wish to train there. However you may get a lower percent then if you went to a different map until 95. At this point FoG will obtain you very little percentages but will still be a very good source of income. Gobies will still be good for you. At this point you may be able to take them on with Assaulter and BoT rather then blowing them up. If you decide not to blow them up, joining a party would be wise. Spirit Vikings are a good choice here. At this point I would try to find a Priest for them as they mob in large numbers. At this point the Pirate maps will be godly for you. The spawn is insane and the money drop isnt bad. Voodoos and Hoodoos are an excellent choice. They mob and its a small map. However watch out. The maps are hard to find. Red and Blue Kentaurus are an excellent choice for those that went BoT first. They spawn in small areas and have great drops. For those who went Assaulter first, Birks are very, very good. They have a better exp to HP ratio, then DTs and have amazing drops. 100 - 110: Youve finally made it to the large three digit levels now. You can now take on Squids now. At this point they are the only map that wont make you lose too much money. If you have money to spend you can always go to Vikings, Phantom Watches, and Gobies. At Gobies parties of more then 3 people will not be very efficient. Vikings and Phantom Watch parties will be very efficient on the other hand. If you find a good priest your potion costs may decrease steeply. You can train at Himes efficiently at this point. Try to find a party with a Dragon Knight and Priest. They will make your life their significantly easier. Pirates will remain a good place to train as long as you train solo. Red and Blue Kents will still be an average training place. Typhoons are some of the best exp at this point. 110 - 120: At this point Himes will be your best friend. It will be the only place that will get you the highest percentage possible. Partying will be the fastest option for you. Try to find a party with a Dragon Knight and Priest. They will make your life their significantly easier. Squids may be an alternate choice at this time. If all else fails leveling at Zakum is entirely possible. However finding a good Zakum guild will be difficult. Grim Phantom Watches will take money out of your wallet and not even give you a good percentage in return. On the other side of the spectrum they do drop Dragon Tails. If you plan on mass scrolling them you might as well train there. At these levels you and a priest at Gobies should be enough for good training. Kents won't be the best exp unless you can take them down at a very fast rate. Jr. Newties will be okay for training, try to get an arch mage. Typhoons are some of the best exp at this point. 120+: You should know where to train by now, Himes are recommended for the fast spawn, and flat mobby map. However they cannot be poisoned. Jr. Newties are quite excellent also, as the spawn is fast. Try to find a Arch Mage or Bishop to party with, as their AoEs will speed up training at a very fast pace. Wyverns offer good experience, but are very costly. They mob extremely fast and without a good mob control move can get out of hand very easily. Partying with an Arch Mage or Bishop is a sound decision. When you get to the later levels, with higher level Boomerang Step, Skelegons are an option with a party as well. Typhoons are an option also, but not as good as before. Meso Management When it comes to upgrading Chief Bandits and Shadowers are among the most expensive. Not only do they have to upgrade all regular items; Sauna, Glove, Dagger, etc. they also have to dish more money out for an attack shield, a very expensive upgrade. Upgrading boils down to one thing. Use your mesos to maximize your potential. Say a 15 attack WG if 250mil, while your 14 attack is 200. You have 50 mil, and can afford a 4 attack shield with it. 4 attack shield gives you more attack for less, and therefore should be bought first. However if you have a 6 attack WG and 50mil, buying a 10 attack WG is much cheaper then dishing out mesos for an attack shield. It's all relative. Maximize your moneys potential. Chief Bandit Skills.
