I'm Back =O I'll try to update this as accurately and often as possible now that I am back to MapleStory. Version History Last updated: June 13 2009, 2:32PM EDT Version: V2.1.1 Changes with Training Spots, reverting version back to numbers How do you open links on the same page? o.O It's much easier if I could do direct HTML instead of basil tags >=O Wow, 2 weeks exactly until 1 year since I last updated this. Future Updates: [Kira Tip] This will be the new opinion system to be implanted by hopefully V2.5.0 Table of Contents Introduction Why Page? Why White Knight? Why Paladin? To Sum it Up Questions about DEXless Build Choosing a Weapon 1H VS 2H Elemental Bonus by Level of Charge Skill Build AP Build Opinion Section (Biased) Training Areas Damage Percentages Potions to use WK Calculations Elemental Advantage List Fourth Job Skill Book Locations and Quest Information Other Information Introduction This guide is to rival the other Warrior > Page > White Knight > Paladin guide because there was clearly not enough information in it. This guide will go into detail about calculations and the advantages and disadvantages of the Page and WK class. Why Page? Pages are basically the same as Fighters, except Pages are a defensive class more than offensive, Pages take the least touch damage out of all Warriors and deal great damage too. Although Pages usually do not get into parties, they are still a great class. Pages, if played correctly, will deal the EXACT same damage as fighters. Why White Knight? White Knights are the same basics as Pages, they are a defensive class, the high knock-back rate, Threaten, and Power Guard add up to enable the White Knight to take the least physical damage, while dealing a high DPS/DPM (Damage Per Second/Damage Per Minute). White Knights are usually unwanted in parties for the lower levels, but eventually, they will be welcomed with open arms into parties, and in some cases, bosses. Why Paladin? Paladins are a great class, dealing the highest mob damage in the Warrior class, as well as the highest single hit damage. However, this can be a double edged sword as the damage can be less stable. Paladins do not have as much DPS/DPM as Heroes in most occasions; however, they do have a higher DPS/DPM than Dark Knights. I find Paladins to be the happy medium between damage, character control, and fun. If you just want a character that can constantly output high numbers, Paladins are not for you, because a Paladins’ damage varies from monster to monster, look into Heroes if that is what you want. Unlike common belief, Paladins are quite welcomed in boss runs, I can get into Papulatus or Zakum runs pretty easily, and that’s after a year of inactiveness. To Sum it up Pages, White Knights, and Paladins are defensive classes, who also happen to pack quite a punch. The high DPS/DPM on elementally weak monsters, as well as mobs and single monsters, is very nice. I Heard DEXless is great... and I'm rich (5k) DEXless can be achieved completely unfunded, it just takes a lot harder work (training in a lower level area than you should be sometimes, or lacking some pieces of equipment for your level) and determination, but the end result is a lot more worth it than being a 50 DEXer (unless you plan on using the Stone Tooth sword) or the so called 60+ DEX average since eventually your Mesos will catch up to you (Assuming you spend it wisely. On another note, this may not happen until the 4th job if you are unlucky with drops/merchanting). (Credits go to WolfJounin for the above paragraph) However, it is much easier to achieve DEXless with at least 500 million Mesos in fundings as opposed to unfunded. Low DEX is more optimal for an unfunded warrior, as well, keep in mind that by level 200, every warrior will have to have 23 DEX (well... unless you are a moron and put it on LUK or INT or something). Also, it is also possible that u can start off with a higher base DEX (30 ~ 40-ish) and then use NX Cash to reset your DEX back down to DEXless. Simply put, the more Meso you have, the easier you can sustain a DEXless, however, it is not impossible unfunded. However, these days, with so many accuracy equipments out, you can probably do it quite easily with moderate (100 million or so) Mesos. Choosing a Weapon This is the great controversy of all times, which weapon to use. I will list the advantages and disadvantages of both of the weapons used by Pages/WKs. Sword Advantages: Stable damage Commonly found 90%+ are 1 speed faster than BWs Getting cheaper Sword Disadvantages: Cannot be mass scrolled Lowest multiplier for max damage out of all weapons Lowest base attack Blunt Weapon Advantages: High max damage Can be mass scrolled High attack Cheap Blunt Weapon Disadvantages Uncommonly found Unstable damage Cannot find a good BW easily Slower than swords by 1 speed (with the exception of the Mallet, Mithril Maul, The Morningstar, and the quest/event items such as Tubes) 1H VS 2H There have been lots of controversy over this topic, and due to the high demands of adding this section, I will give a brief overview. 1H Advantages: Fast attacks Able to use a shield/less damage taken Generally cheaper Higher DPS 1H Disadvantages: Short range/getting hit a lot Rare to find (rarer than 2H BWs) Lower attack Lower damage multiplier 2H Advantages: Higher attack Higher damage multiplier More range/not getting hit often 2H Disadvantages: Expensive Not able to use a shield/more damage taken Slower than 1H by 1 speed Thanks to Senyain for pointing this out: A 1H sword requires 8/7 of the attack of its 2H counterpart to match the damage range, for example a 137 attack 1H sword would match up to a 120 attack 2H sword and have the speed advantage. To match a 2H sword's DPS, a 1H sword is needed to have 1.035 the amount of total attack that the 2H sword has, 124 attack 1H sword for a 120 attack 2H sword. A level 80+ 1H sword is only 2 base W. ATK behind the 2H sword, which means it is not too challenging to scroll a 1H sword near the attack of a 2H sword at the same level as the 1H sword, and there is always the attack shield which can put a 1H sword user's damage on par with a 2H users. The above paragraph is credited to Senyain. Here is a bit of my opinion: Going 1H + Attack shield can be worth it depending on the final outcome. With sword prices plummeting, swords are rather cheap. Also, with the fixed Blast range, bossing with 1H weapons will result in a significantly higher DPS/DPM if used with the right equipments. However, during training, the range can be frustrating at times, because your main attack is Advanced Charge Blow. I suggest you try out a 1H weapon before buying a 1H weapon and an attack shield and regretting the decision. He'll ask you to hunt 200 Taurospears in a special map. 3.Now travel to Sleepywood Dungeon and find the map Sanctuary Entrance 3. In order to enter the special map, you will need the following: a party of 2 members where you are the leader, and your teammate must be a 4th job warrior. 4.Once the party is formed, go to the middle portal in Sanctuary Entrance 3. Kill 200 Taurospears in this map before the timer runs out. As long as you have 2 people, you can enter this map after this quest is finished. 5.After you finish killing them head back to Manji in Perion to complete the quest. Power Stance: 1.Hunt for "Crimson Balrog's Proposal" storybook from a Crimson Balrog, then talk to your 4th job instructor. 2.Now talk to Spiruna found in Cloud Park in Orbis. Give her the "Crimson Balrog's Proposal". 3.She will ask you to hunt for Lycanthrope's Plans from (you guessed it...) Lycanthropes. 4.Talk to your fourth job instructor again. 5.Venture to El Nath and talk to your 3rd job instructor. He will give you another quest to find a Gold Medal. 6.Enter the El Nath PQ and complete it successfully to obtain the Gold Medal. 7.Return to your fourth job instructor, and he will trade you a skillbook for Power Stance for your Gold Medal. Guardian: 1.Go to the "Forest Branching Path" in Leafre and talk to the NPC at the top of the map. He will give you a wooden shield and tell you to hunt 200 Dark Kentaurus in his arena. 2.With a shield equipped, talk to him again and select the option to enter the arena. (NOTE: If you are not wearing a shield, you will die instantly once you enter the arena!) 3.Kill some Dark Kentaurus, then leave the arena through a portal. The shield will not be taken from you. 4.Talk to the NPC at the top of the map again to re-enter the arena and kill some more Kentaurs. 5.Repeat steps 3 and 4 as necessary to kill 200 Dark Kentaurus. 6.Talk to the NPC again to finish the quest. You will lose the shield initially given to you, gain a level 120 shield, and gain the skillbook for Guardian. Advanced Charge: Kill Zakum for him to drop the skillbook. No quest is required to do this. Heaven's Hammer: 1.Talk to Librarian Wiz to begin the quest. He will give you a blue book and ask you to take it to Village Chief Totamo in Leafre. 2.Take the blue book to Chief Totamo. He will ask you to search for a necklace which was stolen by Griffey. 3.Hunt Griffey until you obtain Sayram's Necklace. 4.Return to Totamo with Sayram's Necklace. He will give you another quest to talk to "The Insignificant Being" in Sleepywood Dungeon. 5.The Rememberer will ask you to find a shield and a key for Librarian Wiz. 6.Kill a Jr. Balrog to obtain the key. 7.Now go to Sanctuary Entrance 4 and enter the middle portal. You must have the key to enter. 8.Find the shield inside this arena before the timer runs out. 9.Return to Librarian Wiz with the key and the shield to obtain the Heaven's Hammer Skillbook. Holy Charge (Sword) & Divine Charge (Blunt Weapon): - This quest does not require you to kill Horntail for the skill even though you have to do HTPQ 1.Talk to the 4th job instructor to begin 2.Talk to a scuba diver inside one of the ships at Sharks. He will ask you to hunt for 10 Shark's Teeth. 3.Return with 10 Shark's teeth to the Scuba diver, and he will give you the Holy Grail. 4.Bring the Holy Grail to Chief Totamo of Leafre. He will ask you to talk to Moira in the Horntail Cave. 5.Moira will give you another quest, which requires you to gather the following: Cornian's Marrow (Green Cornian) Skull Mask (Dark Cornian) Manon's Cry (Manon) 10 Tough Dragon Skins (Red Drakes, copper drakes, Dark Wyverns) Broken Dagger (Dark Cornian) 6.Talk to Mos to have him fuse the old dagger with the items to create a new dagger. 7.Gather a party of 6 people and venture back to Moira to transform yourself into a Green Cornian in order to enter the cave below. The cave has five different stages, each of which contains a key. You need to acquire key from a stage in order to progress to the next stage. The last stage should contain Skelosaurus. After you complete the last stage, look to the right of the scheduler to find a fountain. Double click on the fountain to fill your Holy Grail. 8.After finishing Moira's quest, go to Orbis Tower, floor number 8 to receive the skillbooks for both Holy and Divine Charge. Maple Warrior After finishing the fourth job quest, your fourth job instructor grants you the skillbook for Maple Warrior. Awakening 1.First off, talk to Chief Tatamo in Leafre to begin the quest. He will ask you to talk to Carta the Sea Witch. 2.Head to Aqua Road Dungeon and talk to Carta the Sea Witch 3.Talk to Carta the Sea Witch again to receive the quest from her. She asks you to collect 40 courage pieces in a special arena of hers. Now there should be another option in the Carta the Sea Witch's dialog box after you talk to her again. Select this new option (it should be the bottom one) to enter a special arena. You will need two people to enter the map, and you will lose a Pianus statue every time you try to enter the map. 4.Inside the map you will find 3 types of monsters: bone fish, shark, and goby. Every monster you kill inside the map will drop one of the 40 pieces you need, and you need to collect all 40 pieces before the timer runs out. 5.After you exit the map, talk to Carta the Sea Witch again. 6.Keep talking to her until you receive another quest 7.Now head to Leafre again and look for the NPC named Fu. He'll ask you to collect: Ragged Wristband (Griffey) 10 Mithril plates 8.Return to Fu and give him the broken ring and the 10 Mithril plates. He will give you a Mithril Wristband. 9.Head back to Aqua Road and talk to Carta the Sea Witch to finish the quest. She will give you the potion. Use the potion to acquire the skill. Keep DEX as low as possible, and keep STR as high as possible. When you REALLY need to add DEX, because you cannot hit something, then add DEX. However, keep DEX below 30 if possible, since there are so many things that add accuracy these days. The key is, get accuracy, not DEX. The Much Demanded Opinion Section... (Biased) Since this section is my opinion, it will be biased. For weapons, I would recommend a sword. Swords are rather cheap these days, and they have WAY more stable damage. If I were to start over again, I would use a sword; however, I’m not starting over again, so I am happy with my character. Swords have a higher DPS/DPM compared to Blunt Weapons, this is especially noticeable in higher levels. Also, the speed of the sword is unmatchable by Blunt Weapons, especially the 1H swords. Therefore, I would recommend sword no matter how broke you are, because the difference is quite noticeable. Therefore you will regenerate MP 2800 times during training. For those 2880 times, you will 33 MP back everytime, thus the total MP recovered is (2880 x 33) 95040 MP. How many mana elixirs do you save? 1 Mana Elixir gives 300 MP. Therefore you save exactly 317 (94040/300 rounded up) mana elixirs. One mana elixir costs 589 meso at Ludibrium. The total amount of money you save PER level is (317 x 589) = 186,713 meso. Add a little more or take away a little less, depending on the player.
