Please don't pm me asking for help as I have no further solutions than those listed here. Disclaimer: Please note that I do not guarantee that any of the solutions will work, nor will I be held responsible if you screw up your PC from not following them properly, or if you assume any future problems you have are related. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Contents: 1. Maple won’t start and says there may be a server check 2. Patcher gets stuck at some or other point, e.g. 3/3 Base.wiz 2.1 GameGuard runs, then maple closes, patcher.info (or similar) appears on the desktop 3. I get disconnected at the Character or Login screen or similar 4. Maple doesn't even launch at all when trying to launch it 5. Installation related errors 5.1 Error reading setup initialization file 6. error code : -2005532292 (unknown error 0x8876017C) or similar or Screen goes black once maple loads. 6.1 Out of frequency/range upon launch 7. Blank Error with OK button 8. Error 1335. The cabinet file "Data1.cab" required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used 9. Overall fixes to try ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Updates: Added solution 6.1 (It was already listed, but not in its own section) –31 May 08 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Maplestory won’t start and says it may be going through a server check: • Check link for any server checks that may be going on, if nothing appears, hold shift and refresh. (This will force the page to refresh and redownload properly, thus displaying any potential updated announcements). Is it really that hard to check before complaining that maple doesn't work? Only to find that there REALLY is a server check in progress? • Try disabling or setting your firewall to "allow all". (If you have one) • Uninstall Maplestory, download the new v0.48 full installer and install it to a to a new directory, e.g. "C:>Nexon2" folder instead of just "C:>Nexon" (Note: The full installer has been updated to V0.48  )• Just wait it out. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Patcher gets stuck at some or other point, e.g. 3/3 Base.wiz: • Try Download and try the manual patcher: link (Note: The Manual patcher has been updated to V0.48 )• If manual fails (as in it gets stuck while patching), try downloading the full installer: link (Note: The full installer has been updated to V0.48 )- Uninstall Maplestory PROPERLY via my computer>add/remove programs (listed on the left column), and then reinstall with the new mssetup.exe installer. -Please note that the Mssetup Maplestory installer includes the latest patch, so you do not need to run the Manual Patch at all, if you do, you only stand the chance of corrupting your Maplestory installation There are no further solutions to this problem so please don't ask. • New: If maple has patched successfully on another PC, you can copy and replace the Nexon folder over onto your PC that is not patching properly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2.1 GameGuard runs, then maple closes, patcher.info (or similar) appears on the desktop • Browse to maple directory and launch the PATCHER icon. For New installs, browse to C:>Nexon>Maplestory>Patcher For Older installs, browse to C:>Program Files>Nexon>Maplestory>Patcher For Ancient installs, browse to C:>Program Files>Wizet>Maplestory>Patcher ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. I get disconnected at the Character or Login screen or similar: • NEW: Make sure you have good antivirus and antispyware protection. Understand that in general: an antivirus program will not detect spyware, and an antispyware program will not detect viruses. Therefore both are needed. Antivirus recommendations here: link Antispyware recommendations here: link (If you have not used an antispyware program before, I highly recommend you get hitman pro). • Go to .Net Framework and download and install it. • Go to "My computer">Local disk C:>Nexon>Maplestory>Right click and select properties on the maplestory icon in the folder that opens and go to the compatibility tab>Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox and select Windows 95 or 98 from the dropdown. (Try each and run maple to see if it works). Credits to: link • Try disabling your antivirus and disable or set your firewall to "allow all". • Replace your hosts file: go to 1. Click Start Menu>Run and enter the following command: "%SystemRoot%/system32/drivers/etc" Screenshot 2. Replace the entire hosts file with this one: link or link 3. To do so, Drag file contained in the zip downloaded from the above link into the window opened by step 1. -Note: Do not replace it if you have a cannon printer as it could stop it from working since they are known to input a line into the hosts file. • Try a system restore: link -No promises as to whether this will work, but there's a good chance it could. The only thing a system restore does is restore any changed programs or settings, so by doing it you will have to repatch maple again after it is done, but at least whatever is causing it to d/c may well be resolved. • Go to Windows update and select express once it loads, let Microsoft download and install all the latest updates for your PC. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. Maple doesn't even launch at all when trying to launch it: • Right click on "my computer">Select properties>Go to the advanced tab>click the settings button under "performance">Click the Data Execution Protection tab. If DEP is turned on and the "ADD" button is not greyed out, click ADD and then browse and add Maplestory. For New installs, browse to C:>Nexon>Maplestory>Add MapleStory.exe For Older installs, browse to C:>Program Files>Nexon>Maplestory>Add MapleStory.exe For Ancient installs, browse to C:>Program Files>Wizet>Maplestory>Add MapleStory.exe ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5. Installation related errors: • Example errors here as well as the solution: link Basically what you do is click the link on the page to get to the Microsoft website, download the tool that is linked saying “Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now.” Install it and then open it from the start menu and then find maplestory on the list, select maplestory, and click remove, close the program once done. Try install maplestory again. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5.1 Error reading setup initialization file • Your mssetup installer did not finish downloading completely and is corrupt. Try re-download it again. If the same error occurs. Get a download manager such as Getright and use it to download the file by going to: File>new url>Paste in the download link to the mssetup.exe. It will resume where it left off if the download if it trips or your PC restarts, therefore ensuring it gets downloaded properly and completely. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 6. error code : -2005532292 (unknown error 0x8876017C) or similar or Screen goes black once maple loads. • Disable your firewall and try again • Go to your Start menu>Select Run>Type in “Dxdiag” without quotes>Go to the Display tab. The name of your card should be listed by “NAME”. If Nvidia: Nvidia Graphics card drivers If ATI Radeon:: ATI Radeon Graphics card drivers Select the matching operating system and card to the one you have and download>install the driver from the page that results. If some other card, e.g. Intel, please post what is listed there and I’ll help you find the matching driver from there. Please also mention your computer's brand and model. • Another thing to try would be to update to the latest version of DirectX, you can get it here: link • For the black screen problem specifically, you can also try launch the Setup icon in the C:>Nexon>Maplestory directory. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 6.1 Out of frequency or range upon game launch Launch the Setup icon in the C:>Nexon>Maplestory directory. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 7. Blank Error with OK button • Check that you have a “npkcrypt.sys” file in your maplestory directory. If not, your antivirus may have removed it. Get it here: link • Try unplug your keyboard if it is one of those that has any extra application launching buttons or sound controls. Launch maple, see if it loads up fine. You can plug the keyboard in again once maple has loaded and it should work. You also might consider looking up the manufacturers website for the keyboard to see if there are any software/driver updates for it in particular. (This method is not verified completely yet, so please give me feedback as to whether it works: pm) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 8. Error 1335. The cabinet file "Data1.cab" required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. • First try solution #5 and see if it works. If it does, please post saying so. (I need feedback as to whether it works or not). • The file you downloaded is possibly corrupt. You'll need to redownload it again. Most often, no matter how many times you download it, you'll get the same error though (indication error solution #5 in this topic) but, you can try to download the mssetup on another PC and transfer it over onto the PC you want to install it on and see if it works. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 9. Overall fixes to try: • Restart your PC. • Try a system restore back a few days before the problem began: link (2-5 days back should be fine). • Scan for any viruses or spyware that may be interfering with things. Antivirus and antispyware software recommendations can be found here: The Tech Support Thread • LAST RESORT: Reformat Note that a reformat erases all files and programs off your pc, so be sure to backup any of your files that you do not want to lose, I absolutely do not suggest this unless you know what you are doing, or can get someone who does know what they are doing to assist you.
