Important note: darksyte has given me, Mejust, permission to now own and update his guides as I see fit. I am currently in the process of finding a new owner for it, as I myself will do nothing with it anymore.
Intro Hello, My name is Matt (MyNewMain of Bera), at the time of this writing I am level 96, and have been a proud Chief Bandit since September '07. My basic reason for putting this together is to basically post up some techniques i find helpful as a somewhat veteran CB. I've been a CB for a year and some months and feel that as time goes on I have naturally developed certain habits that i find helpful and would like to share. On the other end of the spectrum i would like for other CB's out there to post some of their techniques as well and in part pass on the knowledge you have accumulated on your journey. Credit will be given where credit is due and hopefully we can all learn something from this To locate the Bossing section of this thread, please refer to The Boss solo experience/tips from fellow CB/Shadowers thread. TABLE OF CONTENTS: (Thanks to Kazegiri for explaining how this section works xD) Basic Techniques Assaulter Band of Thieves Savage Blow Meso Explosion General Techniques Darksight Disorder Jump Attacking Dropping Mesos at rapid rates Tanking Advanced Techniques Bailing out Pickpocket and Meso Explosion Making KB work for you Advice from veterans "Pavchka's Potion Poverty Prevention Plan" Shadower Techniques Useful Macros Key Configurations Basic Techniques This section is basically dedicated to simple, generally one move techniques that are versatile enough to be considered more than a straightforward attack. Assaulter In Depth move analysis "My opinion on assaulter: It’s meh. The damage sounds nice, but it's only better on a monster below your level, in all other cases the Def doesn’t get ignored and Sb is stronger. And let’s not forget it takes 30SP before it reaches that max of 450% damage. Then there's the range. Most monsters from 7x and on, are BIG. Which annoys me because it usually results in you assaultering it and then getting hit, especially so if you kb it. That’s also why I’m so surprised pavchka uses it a pirates, since they’re such fatties. Not only does it have those problems, we can't forget that 1v1 isn’t the best way of training. And then the stun, it’s really only worth it when it starts to get 40% or higher, because at that moment you run the chance that you won’t kill the monster before you stun it. The stun makes it very useful in some specific training areas like gobies though. But then again, it’s not very good in loads of other maps. Almost all other freeze/stun skills can do it on mobs. Assaulter just on one, and it’s not spammable enough to ever be useful for stunning anymore than 1 monster. so then the stunning isn’t really worth it either. as last subject, the speed. It’s really low. If you can assaulter 50 times a minute, I’m impressed. while it can do pretty high damage, the fact that it’s so slow will probably make the DPM lower than that of SB in every situation except for the one with a monster with ridiculous Def which just so happens to be below your level. It also adds movement, or rather added controllable movement. Hermits just press FJ and hope they land somewhere good or where they wanted, and they can't get up to higher plats with it either. In contrary to that, if you know how to handle assaulter, you know what to do to get where you want to be very precisely. Not only that, it can’t be ruined by other monsters you happen to fly into, like with FJ. And to make it better, it deals damage along the way, and even at lvl1 it’s I think it’s pretty good damage for a lvl1 skill. So in the end: it’s not the damage you should use it for. While the amount you can hit per time isn’t too shabby, it’s too dam slow. It takes too long to get worthwhile. The stun takes too long to get worthwhile. It only stuns 1 monster. This all makes assaulter NOT an overall good skill to use in training. Sure, it has its useful places, but those are very limited. But on the movement front, things clear up. It’s precise. it gets you to places where other classes cant. it makes you temporarily invincible. its the only movement skill around which damages stuff. I’d say it comes very close to haste in terms of usefulness in the movement department. Personally, I’d probably max something else instead of assaulter if there was a more useful skill, but its decent enough." -Mejust Damage-based Techniques Assaulter is well known for pumping out some serious numbers when maxed. Most of this is due in part to its ability to ignore the monsters defense when you are relatively close in level to it. Another plus factor is its 80% rate of stun. So let’s get into some of the techniques shall we? • Strafing: this isn't really the name but I like to think of strafing as the act of zooming from one side of the monster to the other, relying on the stun to keep it at bay long enough for you to take it out. a variation of strafing is assaulter stun, SB, assaulter stun, SB, etc. throwing in the Savage blow is generally just a way to throw in some quick numbers before beginning to assaulter again. Ideal Situation: Most useful after you've wiped out a mob and have some stragglers left, or you are at a low spawn monster/monster with really high defense. Avoid Strafing in mobs, BoT would be much more useful unless of course you don't have BoT in which case I say good luck to you bud. •"Corona Cut-Down". When facing a monster on the edge of a map (so you can't Assaulter through it), simply jump towards the top of it and Assaulter back inwards away from the edge of the map." god I love that name. But for those of you lost just in case, when your facing off against a monster where there isn't enough room for assaulter(i.e. wall, edge of platform), you basically jump like you're going over it but turn back towards the spot you were just at and assaulter. Origin of the name (lawl):"Remembered where the name "Corona Cut-Down" came from. Originally one of my buddies showed it to me and he called the technique "The Crown Cutter", because as you Assaulter back into the map from the edge of the map/plat, your Assaulter goes downwards at an angle from behind the head of the monster aka its crown. But when my gf started playing around with it on her CB, we just switched Crown for its Spanish version "Corona" because it was it was a technique that was too sexy for English. We also took out "Cutter" because she wasn't a Luk CB (which use "Cutters") and replaced it with "Cut-Down", for the angel at which Assaulter goes with this technique. xD -Orangeking111 Techniques based around mobility Another key element in assaulter is its ability to propel you forward almost instantly. Let’s take an in depth look shall we? •Note: assaulter activates and executes slightly faster when you jump and use it right away vs standing still and using it. Though this technique doesn't negate the slow after effect. • Spawn killing: Basically holding down assaulter in a spot where you know where a monster will spawn. Assaulter won't activate unless there is a monster to attack, and the second it does appear you get a head start on anyone in the area by pumping out the damage that gives it the name assaulter. Most notably used at timed boss maps such as MM, and ZMM. Also an effective defensive maneuver against KSers in smaller maps such as VHoodoos. Personal Experience: I have been using this technique for a long time. Even now when I'm at MM, I’ll stand at the door and hold assaulter down when there is some decent competition just so I can have that jump start. This technique has also won me several KS wars against many classes at maps such as STD's and VHoodoos. • Assaulter Teleportation Tricks: A neat little perk about assaulter is its ability to not only propel you forward, but... 1) If there is a higher platform with monsters on it you can actually assaulter up to that platform if it's low enough. Ex.- MM. The 2 top platforms are an excellent example of using assaulter to its maximum potential, but you aren't limited to just that map as you can pretty much tele anywhere as long as you can reach it and there is a monster. These 2 platforms are actually where I practiced assaultering to get it down. 2) You can actually use assaulter to attack higher monsters without zooming up to them. MM is another good example of 2 platforms that allow this but another key area where this is used and is vital is in the Spirit Viking maps. if you use assaulter and the map correctly you can take little to no damage. 3) The third technique is known as the recover. So you're falling off the side of a map and you don't want to drop all the way down. Or even if you just get knocked off the platform, quickly face the monster and mash assaulter. If done correctly the speed of assaulter's start time will launch you back at the monster that knocked you off. Nowadays used most notably at Typhons to prevent having to use the Haste trick. 4)"Since we now have the 'Jump Down" technique we can apply assaulter while jumping down now as well ;p. As you can see this helps make us more mobile to get to mobs etc. I use this technique when on maps that require you to go up and down. Makes it quicker and you always get that first hit in." -Mesmerizer 5)"- Assaulter avoidance: When you're in Assaulter you're temporarily invincible. Figures, because otherwise you'd get hit every time you use it. It's quite handy when a monster uses a magic attack on you; when you Assaulter something the same time the monster attacks you won't get hit by the magic attack. You do need two monsters for that, of course." -Pav Completely forgot about this technique! This comes in VERY handy at bigger monsters with unavoidable's. I personally use this at HH to save on pots along with tanking. But more on tanking later. Band of Thieves Your first mob move! And a pretty nice one at that. 210% damage twice a second to 6 monsters at max. In Depth analysis "My opinion on BoT There are lots of things to love about this skill, but it still isn't as good as I think it should be. The biggest issue is that it starts off immensely bad and doesn't get better till its lvl18. First point would be that it starts with hitting only TWO monsters and this is upgraded by 1 extra monster every 6 sp you put into it. Still, every other mob skill I can think of on the fly, starts off with always attacking the maximum amount of monsters it can attack. Low level BoT can be compared to low level assaulter, just much worse this time. Low level BoT is as good as useless. Problem two I have with BoT the fact that you get a major damage setback every 6 levels of it. This more or less forces you to save up points at lvl18+. I like a steady increase in power, like most classes get, not a big dip in it every 6 sp I throw onto it. BoT has quite large range, but to connect it, you have probably even less range than DS. This can really hurt, especially because most mobbable monsters have high touch damage. Other than those, BoT is a good skill. It does good damage when maxed and will consistently kb most monsters you train on. It’s the best kb skill you will ever receive. You have the potential of having very high control of your mob, since the direction you stand, will decide in which direction the monster is kb'ed. If you have good control, you'll be hit less often. It can even be spammed. And lastly, it's a mobbing skill, which is considered the best form of training. In the end: BoT has some issues. It starts being decent lvl18+, which is a letdown. Before that, it's simply useless. But after that, it becomes a good skill. It allows for control, it has good damage per hit, which allows it to function as a kb skill even in 1v1 and can be spammed to boot." -Mejust A Good analysis, but my thinking for the reason it starts off so rocky is its pure speed. If you're mid mob and spamming that’s 2 attacks every second. Most mob attacks take 1 or more second(s) per execution. But that’s just the bandit class in a nutshell, speed over power. Also “Agreed. But the truth is you don't really NEED BoT till its level 18. You can just stay at v/hoodoos, water goblins, FoG (yuck) for 6 levels. (Probably be doing that anyway)" -Vathios • Note: BoT's range horizontally is pretty wide for a mob move, but its vertical distance is limited to areas below you. You won’t be able to hit monsters above you with it. Another note: BoT's range is greater behind you than in front (Credit to Vathios for clearing that up for me :p) Mob Techniques Though these techniques are considered common knowledge among jobs that have always had mob moves, they may be unfamiliar to you, seeing how we just get a mob move pretty late in the game. • Round 'em up!: Basically running around the platform hitting the monsters a couple times to make a mob. BoT is at its maximum effectiveness when you have more monsters than the attack hits so you are constantly dealing the most amount of damage. • Knock back: When you attack a mob with BoT, the monsters will get KB'd in the direction you are facing (IF you can knock the monster back). Knowing this we can use KB to our advantage. For example when you have a mob and there is a wall, I’ll generally face the wall so the monsters always stay in my range. a good map to use this is in, but isn't limited to, is Wolf Spiders. • Something to note about BoT that Mejust brought up: it’s one of the best KB moves in the CB arsenal, the only move I can think of that comes close to its KB ability is double stab but who wants to use a 1st job skill in the 3rd job? -cough- Savage Blow "The Jump Savage Blow: Just before jump hit the Savage Blow button. You will then hit the monster but at the same time jump over it, so you will not get hit yourself. It only works with small monsters like Coolies, or fast monsters like Gryphons. I met some CBs who can't do the Jump Savage Blow, so that's why I mentioned it here. • The Backwards Jump Savage Blow. More for show, but sometimes quite handy. Literally; you need to do know how to do it. You've got to more or less press Jump and the direction you're NOT facing at the same time and then press Savage Blow; your character will jump back, but will still face the way you were looking at before you started the Backwards Jump Savage Blow. You may need some practice, because when the timing is off it doesn't work." -Pav •Note: Savage Blow has quite a large attack radius. Use it to your advantage. Most notable at maps like Vikings where SB can be used in tandem with Assaulter to minimize your pot use greatly. Meso Explosion A vital skill to the CB in many ways. Makes short work of anything if you're willing to drop the dough for it. In Depth Analysis "Mesos explosion Mesos explosion can be both a true blessing and curse, in more than one way. The blessing would be that it’s one of the most powerful, if still not THE most powerful moves in the game, whether it is against mobs or single targets. The curse is, of course, the huge cost of using it. This is the downfall of the skill in bossing, but can be covered by pickpocket in training. I have some more to complain about Meso Explosion, though. It takes long to set up, whether or not you use pickpocket or drop bags. And it has some issues hitting moving targets. This became apparent to me while HH’ing with a friend of mine. Due to sudden movement of the HH, three or four explosions out of ten missed their target. Not cool. Total waste of money. But to make up for that, Meso Explosion has a 100% accuracy rating. No matter what monster, you will have a 100% hit rate with Meso Explosion. This little feature has opened up what we call ‘ME training’. Basically training on monsters far above your level for insane exp. Examples of where this is usually done are gobies, himes and dragon nests. And lastly, the damage Meso Explosion does is dependent on nothing more than the skill level of it. So no matter how godly your equips are, you will still do the same damage completely nude. Mesos Explosion range issues. Mesos Explosion is quite the oddball skill when it comes to range. First, the triggering mechanism. This is the range in which bags of Meso will explode. While quite large, it only explodes the bags that you are currently facing, i.e. if your character’s face is pointing east, only the bags east of your character will explode. I call this a good property, since if you’re good enough with it, you can make sure that only the bags you want to explode, explode. The second range is the range of the Meso bags. I will have to say, the range of one Meso bag, or multiple in the same spot, is pretty meh. It's not wider than about twice your character in width and about as long as your character in length. As flying monsters (notably Typhons) usually attack you from over your head, Meso Explosion will not be impressive on flying monsters. But if you spread the coins out a bit, you can have a very wide horizontal range in total. While not making a very big difference per se, this will definitely help on completely hitting mobs that like to move around. But then again, spreading out will be bad on bosses like headless horseman. Spreading out is like wanting half your bags not to do damage. Training usage analysis. There are two ways to use Meso Explosion in training. The first way would be what I prefer to call the “pyromaniac”. This is the guy who basically levels by only using Meso Explosion. This is about the greatest training you can get, but it’s also the most expensive. Which is its handicap. It’s only available to people who either have a high, stable income or a lot of money to begin with. Training to shadowerhood with this will severely limit you in fourth job though, since you only used Meso Explosion while training, and did not get used to the other, in fourth job far more essential skills. One thing though, since Meso Explosion is not dependent on stats and the likes, you don’t need to buy equips at all for this path. You will do the same damage completely nude. So if you decide to follow this path, it’s recommended to just stick to whatever dagger you happen to have equipped, it’s stupid to upgrade it anyway. The second way of using Meso Explosion in training I prefer to call the “casual user”. This guy uses pickpocket and Meso Explosion to support his/her DPM, while relying to BoT, Sb and assaulter as his/her main attacking skills. In terms of exp gains, these score far lower, in terms of cost, this scores far higher than the pyromaniac. It’s actually possible to make some profit out of training with this way, and I recommend this way to anyone but those with the insane funds to be the pyromaniac. Since this method relies on other skills, buying good equipment is a must, though. Conclusion: Meso Explosion is, like all chief bandit skills, quite the oddball skill. It’s one of the most powerful skills in the game. It’s a very good mob skill. It adds a good deal to your DPM if you are the casual user. It allows for great exp gains when you’re a pyromaniac. It has very controllable range. It has 100% hit rate on each and every monster in the game. There is absolutely no need for clothes, weapons and stats for damage. On the dark side though, it’s the most expensive skill to use in the game. Its range has lots of issues. It completely sucks when used against flying monsters. The aiming needs some getting used to. Using only this skill in third job will not prepare you for fourth job. -Mejust In my opinion, it’s a useful skill when combined with pickpocket. But I wouldn’t think about using it without pickpocket. It simply costs too much. The Meso Explosion and pickpocket combo stays good even in fourth job (though it gets easily out shadowed by other moves). Personally I've only spent about one level combined total (if that) using ME to level. I just don't see the point in leveling up by dropping money and pressing a button. On the other hand the exp to be gained is incredibly high if you choose this route. Another thing I noticed about this is the 2 builds he talked about. I believe there is an almost in-between route from the 2, and by that I mean the person who will spend some time at a money making map to gain the Mesos to bomb until they go broke and then return to the old money maker map until they can bomb again. Just something I thought I'd mention." Training strategies I can't speak from personal experience on this, I've never bomb trained. But Minochi and Holeinshoe should be able to provide us with all the info you would need. "Lol, since you’re doing in-depth map analysis here’s my input on bombing HIMES Max ME is 30 bags of 800 Mesos, basically 24k per mob The Solo Bombing Method is Drop one stack on both sides, when your finished dropping them, mob the himes as your going across to the other side and bomb them, re-drop them and then mob to the other side and bomb them. Max BoT is recommended so you can mob them together and make the mobs neater. Common drop spots are the sign by the portal and the light thing next to the tombstone. With a priest, it’s the same thing except when the priest is mobbing, re-drop at the same location. If you’re going to do it on the right side, drop by the light and tell your priest to hug the wall and keep healing when they finish mobbing. This will hit the himes to the bags allowing you to do a good bomb. Each bomb, if you do it successfully there will be one hime left. Reason for this is because there are only 13 himes in the map, and you can only kill 6 per one explosion. The reason why this is faster than Typhons is the speed of mobbing. Also with a priest you get the same amount of exp as you would get normally, if not more by 200 or 300 exp. The left side should be done by the sign, the only reason why I don’t like the left side is because they don't all stop in the same spot like the right side. The only benefit I see from the left is you're able to leave very easily. Bombing Dragons Peak Strategy The first ladder on the left, you start by bombing the bottom. Drop 10 bags of 800 Mesos with Max ME. Mob all the golems over to the bag and when their all crowding around it, jump down and blow it all up. Leave the money on the ground. Now's the hard part. Drop Mesos above the ladder up top. Drop 17 bags of 800 with max. Then mob all of the Skele’s to the right and jump down onto the bottom map with DS. Then run all the way to the other ladder and stand on the left side. When the Skele’s are heading over to you, quickly run a little close and bomb them and jump down. When all is done, rinse and repeat. Credit to Nanaxdaii & Holeinshoe" Gobying with ME "Need to get someone to do an analysis about gobies. I forget how much to drop. But it would be nice for other dits to have tips about how to deal with the stupid bone fish. What I did was; Activated mg, used ds and stood on top of the house and dropped x amount of Mesos in x amount of bags. Then swam up, rebuffed and if there were any bone fish around I moved them over to the house. And ME'd all of them. It’s nice to get some exp (from the bonefish) instead of nothing from the houses. [Also, I noticed that the bone fish have a big effect on the spawn rate of the houses. so it’s a good idea to at least kill them once in a while] (You’ll be pressing ME twice, once for the house/bone fish and again for the gobies) I usually started from top to bottom. if there aren't very many people out and about, I’d just drop bags on as many houses as I could, ME'd them one at a time(always going it DS before ME-ing the houses) and swam up to the portal (in DS again) and just BoT'd/SB'd/Assaulter'd them. DS becomes extremely useful at gobies. The gobies don't have a magic attack so you can stand in the middle of a crowd of them and they won't hurt you xD But watch out! If you attract the attention of a bone fish or a goby house they will not hesitate to through some big magic dmg your way. Also I found that using pizza's there was excellent. As it provided you with more mp then you needed. Be warned though, if your dropping at the houses near the portal, it’s not surprising if another player comes in and starts; a) Stealing your Mesos b) Killing your freshly made mob c) Killing the houses you’re attacking That crap just happens at gobies. It’s pretty popular xP" -Vathios More about gobies "A) what I dropped at gobies with lvl1 ME was 16 bags of 1k Mesos. This setup worked flawlessly on the gobies and 90-95% of the time on the houses. The houses could easily be finished off by an assaulter. B) Disorder also becomes very useful as it can make unwanted attention disappear C) I often explode when there are bonefish on the house. This causes the bonefish to be killed and is a good example of killing 2 birds with 1 stone. D) If you're new to gobies, it's wise to carry around a LOT of hp pots." -Mejust Bombing Ergoth "For the level 1 ME, you drop 800k in 4k bags by the foot of the chair on the left. Then go to in front of where the statue would be and wait for him to summon. Then Assaulter past the statue, make sure you MG is up, and start bombing. When he has the protection from Melee, stop bombing and wait for it to go away. Continue and keep bombing till dead. When he is dead, the bags should also have destroyed the statue allowing you easy escape. As you continue to level up ME, the range of your explosion should also increase. Not damage range, but how far you have to be to explode them. This means that i believe at around level 20, you can blow up Ergoth without having to assaulter past the statue. You can just bomb right in front of the statue. Level 1 ME, 800k in 4k bags Level 30 ME, 400k in 4k bags" -Nana General Techniques Generalized strategies that can vary in usefulness. Darksight Most thieves tend to neglect the blessing that is Darksight. At max it doesn’t reduce your speed and stacks with haste, as well as giving you 200 seconds of physical invincibility (watch the magic attacks though) as an added bonus some monsters will even cease to use their magic attack while in DS, such as Typhons and Jr. Selkies/Slimys Max Darksight will generally be a must for assassinate as well, saves a haste recast per attack. YOU CANNOT USE ANYTHING FROM YOUR USE TAB WHILE IN DARKSIGHT! You have been warned. Disorder Level 3 disorder is a prerequisite for Darksight, so every thief using a traditional build will have at least 3 points in this. "A little not-so-well known technique/Strategy that many people don't realize that I abused multiple times during my Bandit career--Is the abuse of Disorder. Now you might say "I left my disorder at 3, its useless". However, even level 3 Disorder can do the technique! The important thing to know about Disorder is that it doesn't only lower Enemy defense and attack--but it also De-agro's the enemy so that if you're having trouble with a certain enemy--you can de-agro it and stop it from chasing you, attacking you, or even use it in conjunction with Dark sight and any "attack" to kill random nubs in your map! It's a great skill and it really doesn't get the respect it deserves." -Gundelhel Jump Attacking The act of running at a monster, jumping and simultaneously hitting an attack key. Voila. Not really recommended on stronger higher level monsters, you will regret it. But in terms of smaller one hit KO's, jump attacking will speed up the leveling process considerably. Dropping Mesos at rapid rates This technique is basically the act of dropping a large amount of money in a small amount of time. Master this and you training at maps such as gobies and himes (if you choose to bomb) will be easier and loads faster. 1) Open inventory 2) Click on the Mesos icon to open the number window 3) Choose the amount you wish to drop 4) IMPORTANT: put as many 0's in front of this number as will fit, this will prevent you from dropping more than you want or need. 5) Highlight the entire number and hit control + c to copy 6) Move the okay button on the numbers window over the icon 7) Hold down control + v and begin rapidly clicking. If executed correctly, you will spam paste the number but the 0's will make sure you only get the number you want. Moving the ok button over the Meso icon is just for the ease of spam clicking. Oh and if you lag you may either a)drop a few 10 coins in the mix or b)drop too many bags. It can’t really be helped, just move on. Tanking Tanking, a technique that can do as little as save you a couple pots, or go as far as to save your life at some serious monsters. Let’s get into it. • So the basic premise behind tanking is pretty much this: take the damage of a weaker monster to avoid getting hit by the big bad boys in the map. Sounds simple eh? Uses: there are plenty of maps where tanking proves its worth. I’ll even go so far as to take an in-depth look at a few. MM: may not seem like a big deal to you but if you are a lower leveled player you might not be able to recover easily from her ground pound. So if there is an iron piggy on the same plat, run at it. Take its damage as MM performs the attack and reap the reward of taking a severely lower number of damage and keep on attacking! HH: with the introduction of a HH spawn in the map with 3 leprechauns, solo-ing is not only possible, but several times easier! Lure HH, stand on a Lep, savage blow, ?, PROFIT. G.Rog: for all you apq-ers out there, we all know about hiding in the corner to avoid death from G.Rog. Not really helpful but an example nonetheless. C.Rog: not much of a choice when fighting C.Rog but what would you rather take-1k touch damage or 2k magic damage? Advanced Techniques This section contains any strategy or technique involving more than one attack or skill used in succession to varying degrees. Bailing out After reading Vathios' post, I decided to dub the next couple a strategies "the bail out", seeing how most of them involve using assaulter as a means to either tank or get out of an iffy situation all together. • "the jump+SB+assaulter. - Kind of continuing on what pavchka said Basically your SBing a monster, (you know, the usual) your jumping while you SB, and at the height of the jump you quickly assaulter to the other side of the monster. Its particularly handy if the monster turns towards you, or is about to use an attack you KNOW is going to suck. While you’re in the middle of attacking it. Essentially it’s just using jump SB and "assaulter avoidance" to hopefully take touch/no damage instead of magic dmg. Because generally touch dmg isn't as bad. Assaultering AWAY from a monster. it’s pretty self explanatory, instead of assaultering to the other side of the monster. You assaulter in the opposite direction. (For instance when you’re fighting pap or any other monster that dispels you) but you can easily die because of it too. (especially if your dispelled) because you might still get hit." -Vathios Pickpocket and Meso Explosion One of the oldest Advanced CB techniques around. These two moves seem to be built for each other. Nothing much to it: activate PP, SB/BoT like a madman, splode the coins on your weakened mob. Not much depth but a technique regardless. This technique is generally obsolete once you hit 4th job and get level 1 BS though. Making KB work for you Another Vathios technique, this one involving experience at Himes: "This really has no name. And isn't a for sure trick. Just something I do at himes. When I’m training with a priest, I stand in the middle and the priest brings the himes to me. I have PP on and lay down a good 2-4 layers of coins. The really nice thing about BoT is its ability to compact the mobs because of its impressive range. so I mob them together, "compacting the mob", then I use ME which gives me a few seconds while they are knocked back, so I can buff and my pet can pick up the drops." -Vathios On another note, there are some monsters that naturally have low KB compared to monsters of their level, an example being the wraiths in the phantom forest and Himes. All it would really take is a SB to KB them (believe me it’s a blessing when you reach a certain level to KB with savage blow). Another thing to note about KB and monsters is that if they fly and are KB'd. The monster will drop. This can either help or harm you. Helpful KB on flyers would be the PF wraiths. Harmful KB on flyers would be gobies. For Monsters with generally higher KB, it would be wise to use BoT or double stab to KB them if there are stragglers. If there are more than that just round em up and BoT (credit to Mejust). Advice from veterans Dedicated to giving little tips and pointers to the masses Know Your Limits When I say know your limits I mean more along the lines of what you can take and how long. Say you have X amount of HP at Y amount of Meso Guard. Before you go leaping into a mob of monsters like you're Rambo in the jungle take the time to consider these things: 1) How long do I have before I have to recast MG? 2) How long will it take me to clean this mob out? 3) Can I survive with MG after 1 hit? 2 hits? 4) Can I survive a hit if MG runs out and I'm not done? 5) Where are my safe zones? 6) Do I have enough potions to survive the circumstances? 7) When should I be re-potting? Now I’m not saying to constantly thing about all of these on top of fighting off hostile monsters but be wary of them. For instance during my 1st encounter with Latanica I took a 900 damage hit and made the assumption I could hold off on using a potion. One factor I completely ignored was his M.Attack damage which subsequently killed me. So in conclusion, don’t take unnecessary risks or you may end up regretting it when you're down 5%. Know your limits! "Pavchka's Potion Poverty Prevention Plan" This Section is pretty much a compilation of all Pav's techniques that revolve around saving you some $$$. Cuz let’s be honest, there’s no way every CB/shadower out there is rolling in the dough every second of their maple life. -Dark Sight Platform saver: This is sooo obvious, but people are most of the time too lazy: If you're between the edge of a platform and a large monster or you're transporting to another Elpam Magnet turn Dark Sight on so you won't fall off. It's surprising how few CBs actually do that. I've even been called a noob for it so now and then. Or when you're in a mob turn the darn skill on; that's what it was made for! ;) - Assaulter gather up: When I'm in a map with many monsters, like Pirates, I Assaulter through all the monsters on a platform and then try to climb on a rope or something until they have all gathered underneath me. Then I jump in and spam BoT. Quite effective. HOW TO SUCCESFULLY USE CHAKRA: Chakra roughly has three stages: 1. The "forming stage". This stage takes 15 Mp. There is a white flash and the "Zoooiiit!" sound. This stage does nothing, but in the past, if you got hit while in this stage you would lose more Hp when hit and when you picked something up during this stage the Chakra would end. When you get hit during this stage the Chakra completes and you do get healed unless you die. 2. The "ball stage". You now here the "BLOINK" sound. This stage does nothing really; the "traffic lights" appear. They're I think red; I haven't played in too long. 3. The healing stage. The balls change color. This stage takes ANOTHER 15 Mp, so the skill does not take 15 Mp in total, as the skill description says, but 30. You can pick up during this stage and get hit by something without losing stupid amounts of Hp. Throughout ALL of Chakra’s stages you can't walk or use a skill. From the "healing stage" on you can pick up and use a potion. Once the Chakra cycle has completed your character will be immobilized for a little less than a second. This skill is VERY useful because especially now it heals quite some Hp. My level 3 Chakra heals 400-800 Hp; before the Patch in which it got improved it healed 250-500. Use this skill wisely. Make sure to ALWAYS have emergency potions ready, preferably big potions like Unagis or Barbarian Elixirs. Do NOT use Chakra when you have so little Hp left that your character cannot sustain TWO hits from the monsters you're fighting against. So assuming a Gryphon does 200 damage on you, don't use Chakra when you have less than 400 Hp. Set the "Hp indicator" at 50%, so it will start flashing when you've got less than 50% of your Hp left. That way you will know when you can use Chakra without having to keep your eyes on the Hp gauge all the time. Turn Hp auto pots off, or set them at the "It is no longer safe to use Chakra" level of two hits dead. It's also recommended to clear the platform before you use Chakra, but that is less necessary than before because you don't receive high damage any more when you use it. This skill saves MILLIONS per level. Also note chakra takes about 2 seconds to execute Shadower Techniques Boomerang Step avoid: A well known fact about BS is that while it’s in effect you gain temporary invincibility. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WViuvl6ligk is an excellent example of BS use to take little to no damage. Boomerang step Bailout:"Ooh, there's a nice one I've been using with Boomerang Step. Basically it's using Boomerang Step, and an enemy is advancing on you from behind, so at the moment you'd become "vulnerable" again, you'd normally get hit (or missed/Shifter'd, but shh). For a fraction of a second, you can move/jump/attack in this state. All you need to do is hold down your Assaulter key and not only will you hit the enemy that was on top of you; you'll also get a fair bit of distance away from it unscathed. This thing has saved my butt more times than I can count." -DarkQuill I can't really dive too far in depth with this or any shadower technique really, but if I'm reading this correctly it's pretty much holding assaulter down and using the high start up speed to avoid a nasty hit when exiting boomerang step. Boomerang step to Chakra:"There's also sneaking in a Chakra within the BS delay. Not sure if Chakra is exactly 2 seconds, but I heard since BS stuns enemies, a Chakra within the delay is a nice time to get your HP back for pretty much free. xD" -OrangeKing111 A nice little way to not only heal yourself but to gauge the BS delay. -Assassinate + B-Step: What this does is allows you to hit the enemy with Assassinate. If you can't kill the monster you pull out this technique. Basically immediately after using assassinate hold down the B-Step button. This cancels the last hit of Assassinate, and uses B-Step in its place. This allows you to not launch yourself into a mob of monsters, or into a large target. Useful at Pap and Zakum. Macro Dark Sight + Assassinate: Assassinate still does a pretty large damage sum without charging. With this techniques it's rumored you can match the damage output of a NL with maxed out TT. Jump B-Step: Not very known, but BS has a large range above and under the actual hit image. Jump BS can allow you to often hit multiple platforms if they're bunched together. Potting while using B-Step: Pretty sure this is a bug, but if you're low on health use B-Steps ability to make you invincible and then use the potion during the animation. -Noodel Wow, many thanks to koumori for clearing up the assassinate bossing technique. I had read about canceling its last hit and was always wondering about that. On top of that he's added in many other shadower tech that I had no idea about. "When killing bosses like papulatus or pianus you can put a BS+sb+sb macro on your V button so you attack while dropping Meso (smoke is recommended)" -Ekboan Boomerang step at the CWK JQ: "Oh, by the way, this is maybe not very important, OR it has already been mentioned, but Boomerang Step is a lifesaver in the CWK Jump Quest maps. When you've fallen behind a pillar you can use Boomerang Step and get past it without getting hit. I don't know exactly how it's done and what the right timing is, but the pillar has to move towards you for it to work." -Pav "But I think the bstep thing has to do with going invincible for those few seconds during the animation. Basically it has to be done RIGHT before the pillar hits you. Otherwise you'd just come back and get hit by the pillar. :P But yeah that’s a good thing to add." -Vathios http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOQEf(remove)UKy-TI "I don't know if this was mentioned in any previous posts but in many higher level videos, I see shadowers going from Bstep into Taunt then finishing off the monster if they need to." -Southstar052 This one revolves around taunt and its ability to increase drop rates Useful Macros A brilliant idea by lmVindictive, this will be a list of useful macros. Feel free to throw in what you use. Haste>Booster>Meso guard//Pickpocket (I prefer to keep Meso guard on a standalone key for quick recasting but w/e floats your boat) Darksight>Assassinate>Boomerang Step (Meant to pump out ridiculous DPS on grounded monsters such as zakum) Boomerang Step>Assaulter (Meant to keep attacking during the 2 second delay for B-Step) Boomerang Step>Savage Blow>Savage Blow (leave this macro on v so you can attack while dropping Mesos for Pap) Key Configurations Given the immense amount of options we have to lay out our arsenal i think it wise to give a little insight about setting up your controls rather than showing every CB's personal setup. I'm not saying you HAVE to follow these but rather they are more like tips and a guideline that's there to follow. Desktop setup variations and explanations: Let’s use my setup as an example to show my view of key setup. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/maynyak2/keyboardsetup.jpg The main idea behind this is keeping all your vital attack skills tight together and all your buff and potion needs on the set of 6 buttons on a desktop keyboard. Jump and loot for me is ALWAYS shift and z respectively. X is reserved for the main attacking skill of the job (savage blow on my CB, double shot on my hunter, L7 on my sin, etc.). C will generally be my secondary attack (Assaulter on CB, Arrow bomb on hunter, Drain on my sin). V is normally regular attack on my other characters but as experience has taught me it doesn’t work for CB's....AT ALL (if you're wondering why think gobies, Darksight and Meso dropping...), so on my CB v is set to use BoT. All three attacking skill are rowed up within easy reach on my fingers with minimal movement. next is the row above those, D and F. D is set to ME so I can bomb whatever Mesos are on the ground without having to go to some random key. F is simply Darksight. For the row of keys under the main attacking slots we have L7 (lolsindit) on alt and chakra on control. I have L7 on the board cuz I like to use it at times lol. Chakra is on control so it’s not TOO far out of reach but not quite in the way either. Now as far as Potions and Buffs go I always put the main buffs of the class on page down in macro form. Haste/Booster in this case, Soul arrow/Booster/Focus on my hunter and haste/booster again with my sin. HP and MP pots ALWAYS go on delete and end respectively. Insert is reserved for my chair, home is where I place my attack buff potions and page up is pretty much an extra slot for w/e I need (Meso guard in my CB's case). :D Laptop setup variations and explanations: Kazegiri's setup: http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/9156/configyd0.gif Summary: all skills and keys used the most (attacks and jump) on the bottom left of the keyboard. The right hand uses arrows plus pots and buffs on the far right of the keyboard. On the top and middle are only stuff I don't have to use that often (attack pots, all cures, etc.) EDIT: btw, Macro on page up is Haste only; it's the haste I use. The Haste on B is for the Typhon haste trick End

For macros, it's better to put Meso Guard>Haste>Booster so you will activate MG first.
Also, a good thing to add might be in bossing, (solo of course)
Smoke and go into darksight (you cant be hit so why not) Drop a few mesos (like a lot) oh wait you've been charging assasinate haven't you lol assasinate then explode and proceed to spam bstep and sb or w/e Nightjackk2: Also, a good thing to add might be in bossing, (solo of course) Smoke and go into darksight (you cant be hit so why not) Drop a few mesos (like a lot) oh wait you've been charging assasinate haven't you lol assasinate then explode and proceed to spam bstep and sb or w/e As a shadower, ME bombing like that is kind of obsolete. The only time I use ME is while training with PickPocket on. Assassinate and Boomstep is a better alternative to dropping mesos. I just wanna say one thing with BoT, I've noticed now, even though its at lvl 3, it has a little bit of range, a bit larger than SB. trust me, try it on some pigs or green mushrooms or anything. This also means you can get more range from the back, so if there's a mob that's a little split up, you can still take advantage of it buy using this technique. This also means you have more range than a warrior first mobbing move, which i find as a HUGE advantage.
I dont know if this is the right place to post this, if it ist delete it or something.
Some friends asked me regarding the JUMP BS, how you implement it on the grinding and they wanted me to show them how i train with it. Im a little rusty, havnt played for months until now, however, i tought this might be interesting to fellow shadowers and not just my friends, so ill share this here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUIxKdfasts Bombing Dragons Peak Strategy
The first ladder on the left, you start by bombing the bottom. Credit to Nanaxdaii & Holeinshoe" I got this from the guide.
