This thread is currently under construction - I'm currently collecting data and researching to improve this sticky :D Progress: Currently finished with the ToC and added in 2 bosses to the party bossing section. Need more info on Ergoth, Zakum, Horntail, Pianus, any other party boss available. Also looking for shadower input on bossing. Introduction The main purpose of this thread is to instruct the Chief Bandit/Shadower class on bossing and Bossing techniques. The secondary purpose of this thread is to lighten the load on my Original thread The Compilation of Chief Bandit techniques and strategies, which you should probably take a look at if you're gonna read this thread (I will be making several references to it in this thread). This thread will be split into 2 sections: Boss Solo's and Party Bossing. I try to keep whats in this thread limited to what I or other Chief Bandits/Shadowers have experienced to keep the information as accurate as possible, also feel free to contribute where you see necessary. TABLE OF CONTENTS: Boss Solo's MushMom Zombie MushMom Tae Roon Jr. Balrog Blue MushMom Snowman Male Boss Crimson Balrog Captain Latanica Headless Horseman Manon Griffey Boss solo experience/tips from fellow CB/Shadowers Party Bossing Geist Balrog Ergoth Papulatus Boss Solo's This section will be dedicated to taking on boss monsters completely alone. The general setup will be: Boss Name Level Damage it deals Map(s) and basic info/solo techniques MushMom: Level 60 HP: 20,000 Damage: 300-ish touch, up to 700 w/ ground pound. Map: Someone Else's House Info: First up on the list is good ole' MM. Solo-ing this is a milestone for any class in their 40-50's and her drops still manage to draw in the triple digits. Most notably known for dropping 60% armor scrolls and the ever coveted Ilbi Throwing star(though the odds of finding ilbis are very, VERY slim). So as a CB, soloing this boss should be a cake walk. Hell MM rarely even lands a hit on me nowadays. Just run at it and use whatever move you feel like using in your arsenal. On the other hand if you're a 2nd job bandit, all I'm gonna say is jump when you see her eyes glow and hope no one KS's :p easy peasy. NOTE: MM WONT spawn unless you kill the other monsters in the map. It has nothing to do with the fiery as I have tried every method and superstition and found them to be unreliable. Zombie MushMom: Level 65 HP: 35,000 Damage: Can't really say, haven't fought this one in a long while. Map: Grave of MushMom Info: Not really hunted as much as MM, but this one drops all 60% weapon scrolls. Use the same general techniques here. 2nd job bandits can even use the Zombie Mushies as tanks to avoid her somewhat powerful damage. Known for dropping not only Ilbis, but HWABIS@@@@ Tae Roon Level 71 HP: 93,000 Damage: Pretty serious damage here. take caution. Map: Territory of the Wandering Bear Info: The First of the area bosses that may present a challenge to lower leveled CB's. If you're still in your 7x you can TRY tanking off the Panda's...I can't really comment on that though since Tae Roon came out when I was late 8x. One thing to watch for is his ground attack that has ridiculous KB on it(easily knocks you across the map). Other than that just unload on him. He doesn't really drop much to my knowledge but a fun fight nonetheless Jr. Balrog Level 80 HP: 50,000 Damage: In the 1-2k area with his magic attacks. Take extreme caution. Map: The Cursed Sanctuary Info: Well well you've decided to try your hand at Jr. Rog eh? Well he is solo-able by CB's from 70 if you go 1st point ME. I'll give you strategies for bombing him and fighting him melee as I've done both :p Meso Explosion solo- Hang on the rope and drop 10-11 bags of 1k. Wait for him to move in-between the wall and your bags. When he walks toward you BOOM. Bombing is also a lot easier when you have Lucky 7 and a claw/stars. That way you can just lucky 7 him to lure, But beware, as Ive been taken out using L7 before >_>;; Melee Solo- Don't even ATTEMPT this without Meso Guard. Drop down in darksight, if its there move to the rope, buff up and begin your attack. You want to hug Rog as much as you can to avoid the magic attack that will most likely end your life if you're in the 7x. Keep hammering it and eventually it will fall. One thing to watch is you MG though. Nothing sucks worse than dying in the middle of a fight because MG conks out on you. Rog drops all level 70 weapons and 60% weapon scrolls, as well as the usual Meso bag/(power)elixirs and Black Crystal. Blue MushMom Level: 90 HP: 200,000 Damage: Like a reverse MushMom, 700 touch and 200 ground pound with MG active. Map: Hall of Mushroom Info: After weeks of searching i was finally lucky enough to catch a spawn. there isn't much to this fight other than watching your HP bar. if your level is high enough it would be wise to tank off the lucida with Meso guard. 700 damage with MG up is more than enough to take you out if you aren't taking this fight seriously. another option is tanking off the ground pound as it does over 50% less damage than touch (i found that to be somewhat odd). a must hunt simply because of the level 80 quest associated with this kill (free 60% weapon attack scroll :D) Snowman Level 90 HP: 120,000 Damage: nothing too serious, watch out for the mist though. Map: Valley of Snowman Info: Another area boss. Easily solo-able but the only problematic issue i can see is the mist attack he uses. 500 damage every second(?) will make very short work of you if you aren't careful. other than that watch out for the reg yeti/YnP and you will do fine. Male Boss Level: 95 HP: 85,000 Damage: seriously deadly. 2.2k with Meso guard up. Map: Showa Street 3, Zipangu: Armory Info: Male Boss, definitely one of the more intimidating bosses around. The main strategy here is to assaulter avoid. zip back in forth as fast as possible and don't fly into him and it will be a quick fight. I noticed that this is the best strategy simply because of the delay on his attack. if you time it right he wont even touch you. tanking is possible but not recommended simply because the other monsters are pretty fast. You wouldn't wanna be fighting and then all of a sudden have your life line walk away on you, though I find that kinda funny >_>;;. Not really a boss to hunt for profit, but a fun one nonetheless. I'd recommend going when you can take his meanest hit with MG, so about 2.4k HP should be enough but thats bare minimum. or you could be a showoff and go with less and bring some friends along "LOOK WHAT I CAN DO". :p Crimson Balrog Level 100 HP: 100,000 Damage: 2k Touch and 4k Magic(!). Map: Boat ride to Orbis from Ellinia Info. Another bomb-able boss. though i haven't personally bombed it, I don't see the point. All it drops is 10% scrolls and the Balrog proposal/ Balrog Claw quest items and it takes all the fun out of a really challenging fight. If you do decide to melee it I'd wait until you had at least enough HP to safely recover from a MG'd Magic hit. I tried in early/Mid 8x and got creamed. Another thing to note is that you are limited to savage blow if you melee. no assaulter, not even haste. The true downside to this is that C.Rog has a really high Weapon def. Takes Large chunks out of your SB, but its made up for with C.Rog relatively low HP. One final note is that they spawn in pairs. Double your pleasure double your fun i suppose :p. As far as techniques go, i try to lure one down to the bottom floor of the boat and tank off its touch damage. Once that one goes down i go after the other. If you are stuck taking both at the same time don't fret, just take the touch damage and KEEP AN EYE ON MG. You'll do fine ;) Captain Latanica Level: 100 HP: 2,000,000 Damage: ~9xx touch, ~1.7-1.8k magic hits (all with MG active) Map: The Engine Room Info: The Boss of Singapore's ghost ship. NOT to be taken lightly, his offense is vicious and rapid. HP-wise he's packing 2 mil, but if you're a decent enough level it should be faster than HH. one thing to note though is that he heals. i couldn't really tell but it looked like 80k HP. thats about 10 assaulters for me at 99, which may not seem like a lot but they will start to stack up towards the end. I'm not sure if it was just me or if he really does, but i noticed his heals were starting to happen a lot more often at the end. on top of that he can also summon the lesser ghosts of the boat, which CAN provide tanking potential but i would rely on it. the best strategy i can recommend is hug and SB, i would much rather only deal with 9xx damage versus the nearly 2k damage his M.Atk can dole out. one of the few fights that challenged me to my fullest, kept me on my toes the entire time. a very fun fight and satisfying victory, good luck to you if you do decide to go it alone. Headless Horseman Level 101 HP: 3,500,000 Damage: 3k touch, 3.2k magic. Map: Hallowed Ground, Forgotten Path, Hidden Evil, Creeping Evil, The Evil Dead, Crossroads 1, Crossroads 2, Crossroads 3 Info: One of my personal favorite bosses to solo. The best maps to fight him IMO is Creeping Evil, Hallowed Ground and Crossroads in that order. Creeping Evil: Easily the best map to solo HH. 2 close spawn Leps to tank off of and nothing else to get in your way. The basic strategy is to lure HH, Stand on a Lep so you constantly receive misses and spam savage blow. eventually he'll run up on you but at that point you can just switch Leps. Another strategy is to use the assaulter avoidance to dodge his attacks and strafe him. you can also attack Leps in this method and explode the massive amounts of money they drop. Hallowed Ground: Not as good as Creeping Evil, but tanking off the Jr. Wraiths is entirely possible. the only problem i have with this is a lot of the times ill end up attack the wraiths and wasting precious seconds where i get hit. Same problem goes for the strafe avoidance method. But other than that a good map for solo's. Crossroads: This is the map you choose if you want a challenge :p No tanking here because its just you and HH. The only sane method would be the strafe avoidance method. one thing you COULD use are the trees that spawn, but don't rely on it. If you do successfully take down HH in this map i congratulate you, its no easy feat. NOTE: Bring along plenty of BARBARIAN ELIXERS. Why barbs? Simple, HH does 1.5-1.6k damage with MG active. Barbs incidentally heal 1.5k HP. Not a single Meso wasted. When i started HH-ing i used about 2-300 barbs. Now that I'm getting better I've limited that down to about 150-225 barbs with the tanking and avoid methods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgDi-rtDpRs Manon Level 105 HP: 3,700,000 Damage: touch is about 1-1.2k, Magic is somewhere around 1700 Map: Manon's Forest Info: YES i have soloed Manon (at level 96 no less). Manon may seem very intimidating but despite his large size he is actually much easier to face than HH. He deals less touch damage and has a large flock of Kentaurus' to tank 6-800 damage. Beware his Magic attack though. The basic strategy here is tanking the kents and spamming SB. If you have no kents just strafe him and take the touch damage. Here's a crappy vid of me soloing manon, though it may be boring to watch, it does display me using some of the above techniques such as tanking and bailing. enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yk6ZLOPl1U hunting Manon/Griffey: "Some info on Griffey and Manon. Griffey and Manon when they first came out funded my character. I used to farm them twice a day and easily made 20mil a day just from drops. (Those White Nisrock drops used to be over 100mil apiece :x ) I'd suggest doing that for money as they both drop rare scrolls. I picked up the Overall Luck 60's and Overall Intelligence 60's at least every other day." -AllJackedUp Manon has some pretty nice drops too. In one run i got 2 scrolls off it, which is more than i can say for HH >_>;; Griffey Level: 105 HP: 3,700,000 Damage: Same a Manon, 1.1-1.2k touch with MG, 1700 magic damage Map: Griffey Forest Info: Leveled to 97 and took Vathios' request and soloed Griffey. I don't know if it has something to do with it being so long since the Manon solo or what but Griffey was a totally different fight. Griffey will not hesitate to hit you with dispel, stun, and his magic attack is capable of lowering your MP to 1 if you get hit. There were several near deaths as i was hit with dispel and had my MP brought to 1 at the same time. a very challenging fight IMO. But as with manon the strategy is the same: tank the kents whenever possible and spam SB. persist enough and you will succeed. another thing to note about the drops is that griffey drops mastery books. on my only solo run so far i managed to snag ice demon 20 hunting Manon/Griffey: "Some info on Griffey and Manon, Griffey and Manon when they first came out funded my character. I used to farm them twice a day and easily made 20mil a day just from drops. (Those White Nisrock drops used to be over 100mil apiece :x ) I'd suggest doing that for money as they both drop rare scrolls. I picked up the Overall Luck 60's and Overall Intelligence 60's at least every other day." -AllJackedUp And so concludes my personal experience with boss solo's. The one thing to note about solo-ing is that you need to be persistent. NEVER give up and keep fighting until it goes down. You wont regret it ;) Boss solo experience/tips from fellow CB/Shadowers A gathering of Boss experiences that other CB/Shadower's have gone through. Soloing Bigfoot as a CB (not recommended unless you have 3 hours to lose :p) 1) Assaulter Bigfoot once then RUN 2) Go get hit or missed by a weak monster in the map (usually a Jr. Wraith) while Bigfoot is just behind you 3) Use the temporary invincibility to Assaulter Bigfoot once, then RUN Repeat 2 and 3 :p Of course you can just ME it to death, but it's fun to defeat a monster that can OHKO you without it o_o Oh and if there's no Jr. Wraiths and you reach the end of the map, just do Pav's trick and use Dark Sight lol :p If you wanna speed things up, you can just Assaulter once, wait for his attack to finish, Assaulter again, wait for his attack again, etc., without running for a Jr. Wraith or a tree. But there's a lot more chance you die. EDIT: oh and don't bother trying to Reverse-Jump-SB after Assaultering, Bigfoot is invincible in his jumping attack animation thingy -Kazegiri Bigfoot Bombing Method: How I solo Bigfoot ( Meso explosion ) : I've always loved bombing in the left corner ever since I started bombing at himes, it's just a preference. Pic of where I drop my mesos http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=maple0013wk6.jpg As you can see, I was using 4k sacks. Bombing Bigfoot isn't as easy as you may think if you're doing it for the first time. His KB is awful ; you cant hit him while he's Kbed which means if you mess up, you waste mesos. The way I do it, I do 2 meso explosions before going into darksight to prepare for the next set of 2 bombs. First explosion: After dropping about 140-200 sacks, I start bombing bigfoot. I stand directly to the right of my pile of mesos and when bigfoot gets close to me(when he's coming at me from the right), I run to the right and exit darksight as he's still running towards the wall. I quickly do one explosion as he hits against the wall. http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=maple0014uw6.jpg Second explosion: After the first explosion he's invincible until he starts to move again. The second you see him take a step, press your meso explosion key. http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=maple0015om1.jpg. After you complete both the first and second explosion, quickly press your darksight key and repear the steps. I dont do 2 explosions every time. My timing isnt always perfect so he starts running at me before I do my first explosion. When that happens I do one explosion and completely skip the second one. I know a few people who sell BF leech for 5m per bigfoot so I decided to take a picture of bigfoot's HP when I used exactly 5m mesos. http://img510.imageshack.us/my.php?image=maple0016bc8.jpg . His hp bar went down 1-2 centimeters while I was dropping my mesos.. I guess it was lagging. Luring Bigfoot: I use boomerang step but for non-shadowers, Lucky 7 or just a single star thrown at bigfoot should do the trick. I'm too scared to go after bigfoot with a close-range attack Kill time : 25 minutes Meso explosion : Level 30 Mesos used : 6m Size of sacks : 4000 -HoIeinshoe Pianus Solo: I soloed my first when i was 100 kind easy here are the tips that i will learn from for future pianus 1. bring holy water, they skil lock often. 2. while spamming SB look at your buffs at all time cuz he usual does cancel buff and does an attack 3. have patience cuz he always use super defense which slow down killing time a lot 4. how to kill a bomb without killing yourself is to jump into pianus (make sure MG is on) and BoT to hit the close bombs after that its just time GL -Seanbez Party Bossing This section will be dedicated to giving information on boss battles conducted with parties. ATM i only have 3 bosses i can account for, but any information posted will gladly be used and credit will be given. Geist Balrog Level 95 HP: 1,500,000 Damage: Map: Love Hurts Info: The boss of the Amorian challenge pq, can only be summoned by defeating the weakened versions of Jr. and Crimson Balrog before it. The fight isn't much of a challenge to be honest (unless your still 2nd job/early 3rd), the only real thing to watch for is A) Super weapon defense up B) His teleport attack C) Dispel and even for these they wont be any real trouble, more annoying than anything. Super weapon defense up won't be a problem if there's a mage in the party, the Tele attack is minuscule with MG up, and dispel is only trouble for the early 3rd jobbers seeing how low their HP is. No real strategy to beat him either, just pummel away, though i do find it entertaining when he flies away and i get to chase him with assaulter :3 It would also help to learn the Teleport platform order, just to save some time. "About Geist: Assaulter should be used as often as possible in order to KB it, this way all the other super DPM jobs that can't KB (hermits for instance) can deal uber-damage while the Geist stays in place. Assaulter can also be used back and forth on platforms that are close enough. Finally, when Geist blinks (teleports back and forth), keep the Assaulter key pressed to have a chance to land a hit. Most SBs will just miss when Geist pops for half a second, while Assaulter will activate ONLY when it's here. Use SB ONLY: 1) When you can't use Assaulter (no platforms close enough) 2) When no party mate is close enough to attack while the Geist is KBed (and even then, you might like to Assaulter to KB it so it stays close to you) This is assuming you have max Assaulter, of course. Geist is solo-able in about 10-15 minutes around level 100 if I remember correctly." -Kazegiri Papulatus Level 125 HP: First Form-23,000,000 Second Form- 1,590,000 Damage: 3.2k touch, 1.6k M.Atk Map: Origin of the Clock Tower Info: Pap will most likely be your first major party boss fight. Though he may seem daunting at 1st, don't let it get to you. Once you learn all of his tricks and how to get around them you should be able to bring this angry blue plant down without a hitch. To even be able to fight Pap, you need to complete the series of quests based on him starting with Protect Ludibrium. Once you complete every quest in that series and are level 80 you can go into the Origin of the Clock Tower (granted you have a ludi medal). Make sure you have a Piece of Cracked Dimension with you before you go in though. Once inside, place the crack near the hole on the right side of the map (it may take a couple of drops to get it to disappear though, no clue why), destroy the Time Sphere in the center, and bombard Pap with everything. Savage Blow vs. Assaulter: I've seen a couple questions about this in the forum. So let me list the Pros and Cons; Savage Blow will be heavily weakened due to the weapon defense pap has, but on the other hand its spammable, faster, and wont put you in more danger than you need to be in. Assaulter won't necessarily ignore wep. defense until you out-level Pap, but it won't suffer as bad as SB; though you will be shooting yourself at the body and taking 1.5k MG'd damage (If Pap dispels you and you have less than 3.2k HP it's literal suicide). Another note about assaulter is that when you can take a High Darkstar hit you can assaulter in-between the mid section up top. On the Other hand Most Parties tend to push Pap in the corner. I generally stick with SB since i enjoy living, but its up to you. Party Structure: In your party, you are definitely going to want a healer, allows you to continuously spam SB w/o worrying about stopping to pot every couple seconds. HB isn't necessary(especially considering it gets dispelled away with MG) but its nice, allows you to assaulter a bit more safely. You're also going to learn to love 4th job warriors with RUSH, just let em force pap into the corner of choice from the start. Ranged classes that can KB are also a welcome choice. Try to avoid having too many 8x-9x though, they take up precious party room and don't really give much in return. Papulatus' Attacks: Okay, so the fight has started but you aren't sure what Pap has got up his sleeves? No worries, I got you covered. Most of Pap's attacks are ranged Magical, dealing ~800 damage MG'd, no biggie. The real trouble comes from 3 Things for CB's: His summons (the Darkstars), his stun, and his dispel. I'm not too sure about stun but i know his summon and dispel have very distinct animations that i constantly watch for. The Summon Animation looks like a pink swirl when he claps, shortly afterward either high darkstar or low darkstar will be summoned (but never both). At level 103 i can easily take a bomb hit (1.9k damage MG'd), and they also hit misses pretty often. His Dispel Animation is a little tougher to track but still very distinct. Pap will clap his hands and a white-gray-ish electric bolt will appear. Note that this animation is very quick, it's very easy to miss. If you suspect the dispel has happened just back away and check your buffs. If you are dispelled and you stay near Pap you're at risk of being mowed over for 3k+ damage. The main reason most CB/other low HP classes die is the Stun/Dispel combo. It's dirty, it's low, and it's pretty much unavoidable. But other than that Pap's only other skill is its withdraw, Pap will cast 1/1 on everyone and retreat into a state where its both invincible and unable to attack. 1/1 shouldn't pose a threat to you (with MG its more like (1/2)/1), use this time to rebuff/take a really quick breather. After 1st form Pap dies, the second one appears. This form is incapable of doing anything but touch damage, but the touch is 5k, so unless you have 2.5k+ HP and MG up, you're a goner if you get hit. Not that it's likely to get hit, He can't get you when you duck/darksight. So pound away at him and eventually he will fall. Congratz, you killed Pap! Shadower Strategies Pap's 2nd body: 100% duckBstep. Requirement: Single-skilled-macro containing bstep. And a working down arrow. :] 1. Hold down, spam the macro while on the down on the ground. 2. Let go of the down key to use bstep. 3. Hold down fast before your invincibility from the bstep disappears. 4. Get your timing for the bstep cool down correct. Just my fun way of killing pap's 2nd body :] Most people don't use single-skilled-macro with bstep since it you can't jumpBstep with it. -Doryue Ergoth Level 115 HP: 1,700,000 Damage: Map: Info: Currently can't really speak from experience, but this vid should suffice until i can take a few good runs at Ergoth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRqFDjuqi_Q&feature=related End

gabskings: What about Bombing Pap ? It usually isn't worth it. Meso Explosion misses on Pap far too often because of his awkward hit box. Listing: Mark Of Naricain
I've actually solo'd Jr Rog without ME and MG. Just keep getting hit by it's touch damage to avoid it's 2.7k attack.
EDIT:Also as a lvl 80 CB can melee Crimson Balrog with ease. Sharpie: I've actually solo'd Jr Rog without ME and MG. Just keep getting hit by it's touch damage to avoid it's 2.7k attack. PM me for a guide for solo/party Ergoth runs.
What does he mean by "tanking" ?
aznlaosoulja: What does he mean by "tanking" ? Standing on the monster sprite so you will almost always take damage from the comparatively weak normal attack. By doing so, you won't get hit by a more powerful magic or special attack. New Blog: For my little one
Mejust: Standing on the monster sprite so you will almost always take damage from the comparatively weak normal attack. By doing so, you won't get hit by a more powerful magic or special attack. Oh Alright Thanks LOL :D I've bombed Ergoth quite a few times, with max ME I used 450k using 10k bags and placed them under the left arm of the chair, then move to the left where you came from just under that gray rocky area where the throne is and use ME.
Pretty much what's in the video. One time I screwed up on bombing Ergoth, he had the smallest amount of HP left, most of us rushed and attacked. (123 NL, 115 Marauder, 102 Dk, and a 95 CB.) His healing is pretty hardcore, I haven't GPQed in a while so I can't generalize how much he heals at a time and how often. But ranged won't really do any good until the one of the Lion statues are gone, so if you go without ME kill the Statue in front of Ergoth first. Not sure if that helped much. And you also can't use Assassinate on the boat fighting Crogs, and in the most recent patch allows Crogs to hit you while you're in DS.. Why isn't this guide being updated? Nice guide. I'd like to add that if you want to save money and have time to spare, using less money in each bag will give you better damage for less but in exchange for time. EX: I forgot what level my ME was at the time, but I used 7.5k bags and exploded about 1mil for HH. I then tried 1k bags, (of course it took longer) and it took like 350k.
EDIT: What I meant about the better damage is getting more damage out of each meso. When can a Shad solo Anego? o.O xD
New Pic: GUILD WHAT?! xD
orangeking11: When can a Shad solo Anego? o.O xD As soon as they have 1 point in B-Step. Just sit back and snipe. Incredibly boring. But it works. DarkQuill: As soon as they have 1 point in B-Step.
