Laws of the Bandit section
MapleStory Forums : Bandit, Chief Bandit, Shadower : Talk about the Bandit, Chief Bandit and Shadower classes Thread starter
Dear Bandits, Chief Bandits, Shadowers and people of other jobs that are new in the Bandit Section,
First of all I would like to welcome you to this section. We have a small “inner core” and a larger “outer core” of Bandits, Chief Bandits and Shadowers that will always be ready to help you if you need to know something. There is something you should know, though; this section has a number of unwritten laws and if you do not obey to those the section members will become annoyed and will either not answer to your question, will go off topic or will flame you. To prevent those situations and to make the section run smoothly I will list them here: Questions that are not to be asked/threads that should not be made Some questions are over asked or have already been covered in a sticky. Threads about them are not appreciated. I will list these questions here. - STR vs LUK, DEXless vs reg DEX, etc (these questions have been answered in the stickies) - When to cap DEX/STR (also covered in the stickies) - Is my damage good? (We have a damage sticky in the Thief Section for that) - Should I convert for a Khanjar yes/no (You can figure that out by yourself, and it should be in a sticky if I’m not mistaken. On top of that both LUK and STR Bandits aren’t happy about the subject) - Bandit vs other class (You’re asking for a change is the BANDIT section; you’re not going to get an objective answer. Rather go to the General section of the New section) - Where should I train (also covered in the stickies. UNLESS you’re in a situation not covered by the stickies you had better not asked this question) - Inspirational threads most of the time come with the best of intentions, but they're not liked a lot in this particular section. Most CBs and Shadowers know very well what their characters are worth. Most inspirational threads also seem a little too spiritual; "THE CB ROCKS NO OTHER JOB BEATS THE CB THE CB RULEZ WE ARE FAST, POWERFUL etc" without mentioning any possible cons of the job. If you do write an inspirational thread do make sure it'realistic and that the timing is right. What to keep in mind when making a guide Some people bust right into the Bandit section with a guide. “Hi, I’m new and I wrote a guide.” Often they do not have any experience with guide writing yet, so they end up getting flamed. Here’s a small list of things you might want to keep in mind. - Know what you are talking about! Many guide writers think they have written a good guide, but end up spreading false information. “Meso Guard is a nice skill, but it does cost you money.” is something I have seen in some guides, while everybody here knows it saves you money. - Keep your “audience” in mind. When you write a CB should use ME from level 71 to 120 you have probably not figured out there are CBs who simply cannot afford to do that. Same goes for very expensive equips. “You are going to need a 23 attack shield or you won’t make it to Shadowerhood.” - Make sure the subject of your guide hasn’t already been covered in one of the stickies. - A guide needs to be well structured and coherent. When you look at our stickies you’ll notice they have a certain structure. That makes them easy to read and allows you to skip sections to the one you’re interested in. - Headers are used to initiate a new section; do use those too. The code is [.header]text[./header] without the periods. It will look as though you have put more effort into your guide. - A guide must not only be a feast to the brain, but also to the eye. Make sure your spelling is correct and please do not use Dynamic English (dynaicm engrish is wen u type liek dis). Also make sure to use the right quotation marks. An occasional typo is of course no problem, but a lot of them is rather annoying. - When you like to use abbreviations for skill names or other MapleStory terms you might write the full name out the first time you mention the skill/term. So now and then there is some confusion; DS is the abbreviation for both Double Stab and Dark Sight, so I’ve seen whole flame wars about “DS IS NO ATTACK SKILL!” “YES IT IS!” and Warriors wondering how a CB can possibly do Slash Blast, while the author meant Savage Blow. Some random etiquette To make the Bandit section a pleasant experience to not only the “regulars” but also to you I have some final requests: - When posting the quality of your English is not as important as when writing a guide, but it is not unimportant either. A bit of Dynamic English is no problem, but you should at least keep your posts comprehensible. - Extensive Grammar Nazi-ing is not appreciated either. I happen to be the only member of the Grammar Gestapo (I kind of protect people who are unfairly targeted by Grammar Nazis) on all of Basil Market, and I’ll… reprimand you… if you spaz over a little typo. Some people in this section are not native speakers of English (neither am I), they are doing the best they can! - Read the stickies before you ask a question; that’s what they’re here for. Something like “I did not have the time”, “I did not see them” or “I never read stickies” is NOT an excuse! - Unfortunately flame wars are common in the Bandit section. If you write a thread that is not well received some posters might react meanly to it (“Next time know what you are talking about, idiot”). Best would be to show that you are better than them, to not join the flame war and especially not make any stupid assumptions about the poster. More than once our friend Orangeking11 has been told to “go to his own section” because his main is a Hermit. The truth about him is that he has plenty of knowledge about and experience with CBs, so the Bandit section IS his section! - When you are asking where to train please do NOT show your equips, but your damage range. Your equips seriously won’t give us any information on where to train. - With regards to the last subject: showing off is not appreciated. - Don’t assume; know. When you do assume tell people that you are assuming. Especially don’t assume things about people. - Make sure to thoroughly read a thread before you comment and know what it is about. We have a parody thread somewhere here (I’m not telling you which one it is) and people have been boiling over like volcanoes when they read the first few lines, while to some it was crystal clear that it was a parody. - Please respect the various kinds of Bandits there are. The Bandit is an an extremely variable class; we have LUK Bandits, STR Bandits, DEXless Bandits, DEXless STR Bandits, etc etc. In stead of celebrating our variety many people fight over which one is the best and hate on the one that is "less good". Please do not do that, since every Bandit is good. We have even have a LUKless CB here! Warning: The CBs and Shadowers reply to forbidden topics with the word “Puppystomp” or start talking about curry or Power Rangers. When you see the word puppystomp, curry, Power Ranger or “MORPHIN’ TIME” somewhere in your thread you have apparently done something wrong! Kazegiri, the Basiler who has several FAQs in the Bandit section, will scout the Bandit section once a day for forbidden questions/threads. If you have made a forbidden thread or asked a forbidden question he will NOT answer to it. If he does post your question was not forbidden. Mejust, the pitbull of the Bandit section, will bite you if you're making a forbidden thread. If you make a good thread he'll be a harmless Doberman-Pincher puppy; still cute, but potentially dangerous. Please don't stomp Mejust, by the way. With these things in the back of your head the Bandit section should become a good place to be for you, and maybe you will sooner or later become part of the “inner core”. I wish you good luck with all your future endavours, Pavchka of Basil PS: Again wrote this is a Word 2007 document. I am not used to Word 2007 yet, so I offer my humblest apologies if this thread somehow looks unusual and I will fix it as soon as possible. New Blog: Me on memes
