WorkOfArts Art Advice 10 Hair, part 1 Hey guys! I love giving art advice or critique. I can only give advice and critique to the best of my knowledge and ability, though. I've never taken an art class or had any type of formal training, so things I say might be different from what you may have been taught. If you want critique, feel free to post below or send me a PM! [header]Art Advice #10 (the big 10!)[/header] Drawing Hair, part 1, short hair I haven't made a hair tutorial for DeviantArt yet, but you guys get a sneak peak! This topic is difficult as hell to explain and it may take a bit of reading, but I'll try to summarize it at the bottom if you're too lazy to read it. Hair is much easier than you think! But SO many people

[header]Art Advice #1[/header] Polygons and shapes are your friend... or your worst enemy We all know the way art schools and books teach you how to draw humans with shapes and circles. You need to draw a skeleton, this, that, blah blah blah. That is very important for figuring out proportion. DO practice it. DO NOT ignore it. If you don't know your proportions then need a couple hou

[header]Art Advice #8[/header] Always Draw Hands Sorry kids, but the way you draw hands does not work. Hands inside sleeves don't work. Hands covered by hair or other objects don't work. Hands behind the back don't work. I see a lot of people forcing poses that avoids hands. Or poses that let you draw easy hands (such as holding an object or fists with the back of the hand fac

[header]Art Advice #7[/header] Speed in art will come to you naturally I always hear people say "I want to get faster at drawing" or "I want to learn how to quickly draw something amazing." This mindset is the wrong way to go. Trying to draw faster will only make you ignore certain details, frustrate you, and give you a product that is much worse tha

[header]Art Advice #1[/header] If you are serious about learning how to draw, join an online art community There are plenty of amateur art communities you can join. Some are more active than others. DeviantArt is a great place to stop by, but it's very crowded. You can join a sub-community in deviantArt, such as a group or a chatroom. I participate in the [url=http://chat.deviantart.

[header]Art Advice #1[/header] Practice coloring in gray-scale Grayscale is a method of coloring. You color in black and white and everything in between. No color. Grayscale allows you to practice your values. Understand your lighting and your shadows. Some people focus way too much on their colors, without even understanding how lights and shadows work. Then they continue learning t

[header]Art Advice #1[/header] Tracing is okay Sometimes, the best way to learn is to trace. Sometimes you just have to trace it so you can understand just exactly how the curves and lines work. By no means should you ever think that tracing is not a viable and useful way of learning. If you can't copy something, then trace it. Don't just draw the wrong thing over and over... you'll

[header]Art Advice #3[/header] USE REFERENCES. There are certain people out there who will always tell you that references are bad. "Don't use references," they say. "That's cheating," they say. The thing about references are that they're just references. Unless you want to have your own personal abstract style, you need references. [header]Art Advice #2[/header] Do not practice anime style. Learn realistic proportions Style is something you develop on your own. Obviously you're gonna like certain peoples' styles, and you'll want to draw like them. But before you stylize, you have to learn. Practicing anime style will only make you possibly good at drawing anime. You will have difficulty trying to draw other sty

To find the way you want to approach, ask yourself the question: Do I want to practice, improve, and become someone who's rea

Someone help me with my phone So I'm using an HTC Evo 3D. I'm currently not getting notifications for e-mail, GroupMe, or facebook, unless I actively use my phone. I keep my phone locked (obviously), but it's still turned on, and can still receive calls and texts. I receive texts normally. However, I do not get any notification for my e-mail or GroupMe unless I press the unlock button. Basically, this means when I'm sleeping or not using my phone, I won't get any notification for email or groupme until after I pick up my phone and turn the screen on (again, my phone is NOT turned off!) Pretty inconvenient since a lot of my friends prefer using GroupMe.
