Even if you yelled at a guy, people should still call you a jerk. Just saying.
That's America/UK/Canada/Singapore for you (I'm guessing because... English... Basil... yeah). If you go to some other countries you might be in serious trouble just by saying that to a girl. You're lucky to live in where you are.

They weren't yelling at you for yelling at a girl. They were yelling at you for being rude.
