Holland actually doesn't exist anymore. It is north and south holland now.And those two combined doesn't take up almost all of it (incase you were talking about square meters). It just had the most influence and the most inhabitants. The main language originated from the original 'holland' and the country is controlled from that region.

The official name is the netherlands, but long ago people kept using the name holland instead of the netherlands and it is still allowed. (Holland is actually the combination of north and south holland that is part of the netherlands these days)
