People whove moved out

So I told my dad I'm moving out today, and we both got pretty emotional. It wasn't easy seeing him like that. I'm the only family he has in the state, and I feel like garbage, even though I really believe it'll help me out in the long run. I depend on him a lot, mostly from meals. I don't know if I'm making the right decision or not, leaving. I'd only be a few blocks away, and he has friends here too.

I guess I just want to read some stories about your situations moving out, preferably from people who left a single parent and weren't in a really abusive relationship with them.

Dorks

i moved out like 4 years ago for school and my dad has saved my room for me
but i got a cat two months ago and it turns out my family outright hates them (thinks they're dirty eyeroll)
my parents kind of expect me to move back in as soon as i finish school but at the same time the fam's been adamant on the no cat policy for this coming spring break and i refuse to rehome him
anddd if i manage to get a dietetic internship when i graduate it will def be out of state.

I think my mom/stepdad were relieved when I moved out at 21 years old. Like, finally!

@GlitterPumas: Because I don't have a sob story to share then I can't share anything? I must be so privileged because I have been working since I was 15 to save up to pay for rent and tuition by myself, and accumulating student loan debt. But I know I'm privileged to have a sibling, thanks.
@igetaroundxD: Year round, I visit my parents once a year around Christmas time. I stay in my uni city to work during summers.
nothing special.
Both of my parents moved out at 18 to attend university (they didn't know each other back then), so they didn't even bat an eyelash that I moved out at 18 to attend university as well. Plus I have a little brother so it's not like they have an empty nest.
When you say moved out do you mean during the semesters are also the breaks, year-round?

Just because you come from a privilege family doesn't mean the OP is.
Well when i moved out it was for independence as well + my coming out wasn't all that great so being home was sort of awkward xD. But yeah i dont regret moving out.. owning the house I live in I can make my own rules >
You took a sad situation for OP and selfishly made it all about you. No one cares lol.

Left the birds nest March 10th, 2014. And I'm loving it, but I do miss being home sometimes. I'm now 3 hours away in another state. Independence can be overrated, though independence with a significant other is the best thing in the world. If GFs are or will become apart of the picture , plan for your adventure to be cut short. Your dad will always be there when it happens and that's a lovely thing to have.

Plot twist. OP still goes home for dinner. Only a couple blocks away, right?

You can see friends anytime and even make new ones. But you only got 1 dad : c Nothing wrong in your choice but idk if you're all he's got I'd stay.

Closer to the first, I guess. I'm not moving for any major reason other than for some independence. In reality, if my friends hadn't asked me to move in with them, I probably would've stayed in that house with him until he died..

Was it like an "I'm going away for college love you" or "I HATE YOU IM LEAVING BYE" kind of vibe?
