Fixed Basil Awards 2013 Hello Basilers. I'm sure many don't care, I hardly do... (given how inactive you may perceive Basil to have been this year, given how you may not have liked the way the awards competition was set up this year, given you may not know any of the candidates/winners, or given plain old adolescent apathy) but, this year's Basil Awards were miscounted. Thanks for pointing out the miscounted votes in the other results thread. I just went back and tallied the votes according to the "rules" at the top of the voting thread. Since such strict rules were set, I followed them as strictly as possible when considering voting posts. You will see how apparently FEW valid voting posts there really were this year. For referen
Bachelor Party ideas TONY if you are reading this STOP RIGHT NOW! *ahem* Okay. So, one of my best friends is getting hitched in a few months. And I've been asked to be in the wedding as a groomsman. We wanna throw the guy a bachelor party. We've narrowed down some ideas of things we think he'd like. But I won't post them here since the groom, Tony, actually plays Maplestory and might actually read this thread at some point. But to the point... have you gone to a bachelor party before? What are the things that guys would like in a bachelor's party?
Online Internet lingo Evolution of creepypasta: "Copy and paste" -> "Copypaste" -> "Copypasta" -> "Creepypasta" Any others like this that you can think of? Trying to think of examples to show my friend.
Tipping with a Gift Card I know tipping is a touchy subject. So try to avoid having an enormous debate on the general ethics of it if you can. I have a scenario for you. Let's say you're at a (fancier) restaurant with a friend and you ordered an appetizer, 2 drinks, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts... and the bill totaled to about $80. But you have a $50 gift card. You hand the waiter your $50 gift card along with your debit/credit card to pay for the rest of the bill. The waiter returns with a receipt for you to sign and add tip. But this bill says $30. Let's say that the waiter had good service and you're willing to give a 20% tip. Given that tips are generally based on percent of bill... do you tip the waiter 20% of $30 (which would be $6) or 2
You've just realised that Sonic and MJ are connected That's right. If you've ever played "Sonic 3" or "Sonic 2" for the Sega Genesis, and if you've ever been a Michael Jackson fan, then sit back and let the nostalgia wash over you as you listen to this magic! Unrealized Nuclear Consequences of Recent Disaster Hey Basil... I'm sure you're all aware of the disaster that's struck Japan recently. Well, after watching this vid of Dr. Caldicott talking about the nuclear consequences from that event, I'm kinda worried about the long-term future. I don't wanna say zombie apocalypse or anything but... yikes... watch the vid... try to follow what she says... and then come back here & say what you think. Nuclear Facts... "A very clued in professional who will not be bought or intimidated into silence: Dr Helen Caldicott, true to style, tells it as it is. As she sees it, you wont usually hear the truth so listen up.. Nuclear fallout from Japan
Holy crap Google Mail! So, I was typing an email. I hit 'Send.' And a Gmail notification pops up. I dunno whether to thank Google for being so smart... or to be frightened that Google is so smart. O_O
Whoa! Wet roof collapse video! Metrodome's roof collapsed in Detroit. You have to see the video... you just have to:
"How ya doin?" "Good you?" "Good." I say this crap so much every day and I'm sick of it. Any way to greet people without going through this pointless silence breaker? Any way to make it less meangingless?
Meteor shower peaking tonight Hey, did you know that tonight is the peak of the Perseid Meteor shower? It will be most visible just before sunrise. Wanna see it? Look up at the sky. Can't see it? Don't look in the sky near the moon... the moon is too bright and makes it hard to see the meteors. Also, try to go somewhere without light pollution, like a rural area away from all of the city lights. Too lazy? Here's some pics:
Death is scary Though, I'm sure I'm not the first one to have this thought. But, I was in the shower earlier. And I had time to think. And I was thinking about the finality of death. Sure, I've seen some examples of death where the person dying is at peace. But, I don't really know how one could consciously welcome death unless you're really convinced there's something afterwards. I guess even if there's nothing afterwards, then I won't have to worry about the nothingness. But those last few moments would surely be frightening not knowing what's coming next, if anything at all. Do you think you'll be able to make peace when it's your time? (Sorry if this is macabre... I usually keep myself busy with TV shows so I don't think about stuff lik
Does anyone actually watch the Winter Olympics? I had it on for a few minutes the other day and they had these guys sliding stones on the ice and brushing the ice really really fast and it looked weird. O_O
New iphones today Where I live they had lines around the outside of the store with people waiting in the early morning for iPhones. One guy even camped out the night before. Y'all got an iPhone? What's the big deal? Bigger screen? Woohoo? OohooW?

Obviously if 20 chicken mcnucggets cost five dollars If you think that you're only eating real chicken when you bite into one of those savory nuggets... let me be the first to break the news to you that there is a whole lot more going on there. Obviously, it's so cheap because you're not really eating real food! I've lived long enough to know that more often than not, things like this are too good to be true.
