Narrative design I'm writing a little series about making better stories. I know that there's a handful of writers here on Basil, but just in general, if you're interested in narrative and want to see how your favorite novels/movies/games work their magic, check it out: Part 1 and Part 2. Mostly, I just like studying the theory. If any of you guys write, share your thoughts or your works and I'll share mine, I like reading people's stories.
Play my video game I'm launching my campaigns for Mark of Mephisto today. It's about teleporting swordsmen versus gunners with grappling hooks and they all run around and kill each other. Fun stuff. If you liked Maplestory, MoM is... tangentially similar. They're both 2D sidescrolling platformers, but that's about as far as it goes. Obviously, Maplestory is a much bigger game, but I think my game's controls and PvP combat are way better. On the verge of saying something very, very mean So I just finished up my undergrad senior project. We presented yesterday and it was pretty cool. I'm a digital media major and we made a video game about teleporting swordsmen versus gunners with grappling hooks and they all run around and try to kill each other. It's a cool game and I really love it, but my senior project group has just been very disappointing through this whole affair. Academic group work, you know how it goes. No one likes teams. A few hours ago, our producer (in game dev, that means the "boss" who manages schedules, meetings, deadlines, those kinds of things) messaged us all saying "Once again, great job everyone! I'm so proud of how we did yesterday!"
Attention LoL Players Arguing Against Mana In LoL I wrote an essay arguing against mana in LoL. If you're interested or if you disagree, check it out and tell me what you think! Arguments and critiques are welcome. Or if you don't feel like clicking, here's the text: Arguing Against Mana In League Of Legends This essay takes the concepts from my previous essay The Mana System Paradox and applies it specifically to League of Legends. Knowledge of both of these is preferable, but if you haven't read "The Mana System Paradox", its core argument is that resource systems in action games are bad because they punish players for taking actions in a game that's all about taking actions. Thus the main question is this: is LoL one of
Would anyone like to have their ear drawn? Please PM me and we can arrange something. I need to draw 100 ears for my figure drawing homework.
Had a quotbadquot day So I'm a university student. I go to university in Philadelphia, and I was invited to come to a week-long conference in my home town, San Francisco. Naturally, I was happy, because I'm familiar with San Francisco and I could stay at my father's house and eat good food and sleep on a real bed and all that jazz. He was happy too: we're on good terms. Almost too good, because he spoils me a lot. Well, my flight landed yesterday and I got a taste of just how good our relationship is. Practically since the moment I got up in the morning, he's been making me hang out with him everywhere. We ate fancy Asian food, went sightseeing at famous SF landmarks, ate more fancy Asian food, and thankfully by then it was pretty late, or
Which versions of this animation is more engaging? Err, typo. Title should be: "Which version of this animation is more engaging?" The Experimental Line. [url
Girl relationship problem So I have a friend named Arlene. She's a university classmate of mine, and we know each other fairly well. Arlene invited me to play League of Legends with her group of friends where I met her boyfriend, Josiah. Josiah was a pretty cool guy, and we continued to play LoL together outside of Arlene's group. Josiah and Arlene are in a long-distance relationship: she moved out of her home state to attend this university, and he's still there. That was all about half a year ago. Summer break happened, next quarter happened, I'm now back in school with Arlene. But recently, I've seen her holding hands with an upperclassman we both know, and I don't know what to make of it. Is she cheating on Josiah? He's a friend of mine
Please playtest my groups video game prototype My group in game design class made a video game prototype, and we need playtest data. If you can spare the time, please play through this game and fill out the survey. It should take about ten minutes. Thank you. tomtheg.com/Guilt/GuiltGame.html The link is broken because of a filter. Science fiction story So I had a creative writing assignment to write a science fiction story. Thoughts, feedback, or criticisms? It was about eleven o'clock in the morning, mid October, with the sun not shining and a look of hard wet rain in the clearness of the foothills. I was wearing my favorite yellow, puffy shirt with some DKNY skinny jeans, and my tan pumps with the matching handbag. I was waiting for my manager to pick me up and take me to the photoshoot set for ELLE Magazine. I was waiting for him for at least an hour. I was freezing to death, that's how cold it gets in the winter in Los Angeles. I got tired of waiting so I went back inside to my condo, grabber my keys, and drove to the nearest Starbucks. Starbucks was full, but I
