Clearing up misconceptions and misunderstandings Clearing up misconceptions and misunderstandings Recently there was a thread calling out on the genetic similarity between chimps and humans. Link :http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2100750 But I felt it needed some cleaning up, unfortunately, it was closed so I'm dedicating this thread to clearing up for those mistakes, and as a FAQ for evolutionary biology, for all of you who are clueless as to how it works. Your opinion on different religions/positions I'm making a statistic project, and I was interested in peoples view on the different religions. It would be great if you would rate the different religions below, rate them on a scale from 1 to 100 where 100 is the best possible religion imaginable, and 1 is the worst religion imaginable. 1. Christianity 2. Islam 3. Judaism 4. Unitarian Universalism 5. Hinduism 6. Buddhism 7. Scientology 8. Satanism Extra "sidetrack" 9. The case for evolution Evolution is a FACT, not a "theory". Scientists have different terminology from that used in everyday speech. In the scientific context theory does not mean a fuzzy hypothesis or a guess, but rather is defined as a framework which is made up of facts and is used to explain observations and make predictions. Evolution is ,for all intents and purposes, a fact simply because it has occurred and continues to occur. Darwin's theory of evolution is a scientific theory in the sense that it is a framework which consists of facts and is used to explain current observations or predict phenomena which may occur.
