What to look for when getting a laptop? So I'm planning on buying myself a laptop for my 18th birthday and I have a lot of cash saved from the last few years. I don't really know much about computer hardware but what should I be looking for when buying a laptop? I'll be mainly using it to do work/research on and play games that pretty much require a high CPU and graphics? My budget is pretty high (probably around 1000 dollars or so? Could be more if need be) and I'm willing to fork out the cash required as I know as a fact I'll be using this laptop craploads (plus I want it to last me at least 3-4 years) when I begin university next year. Should I get a desktop/notebook instead of a laptop? So I posted this thread before. But I was talking to some friends who said that I should get a desktop and notebook instead. The reason was that most 'powerful' laptops would be too heavy and the battery life wouldn't suffice at university. They recommended that I should just get a desktop to play games at home and a notebook for university. Also, supposedly a $500-600 desktop would be a lot more powerful than a $700-800 laptop. So should I just spend $600-700 on a desktop for gaming and just spend $200-300 on a notebook for uni instead of $1000 or so on a powerful laptop? What are your thoughts/experiences?
