What is historical determinism?

I don't really have a clear cut definition for historical determinism can someone tell me what it is? Like my teacher said the bronze age is considered deterministic I don't know why though.

not sure if this is the answer that you are looking for, but I ran into something called environmental determinism in my geography class. It means that the physical environment by itself shapes humans, their actions, and their thoughts. Basically, it means when there is a mountain in front of you and you have to get to the other side, you climb and then down the mountain to get to the other side [as oppose to possibilism, people would dig a tunnel through the mountain].

if not, google is always an option
