It Has Been Such a Long Time

Today I stumbled upon a thread on a website talking about how long training used to take in old Maple. I started thinking about it, and my mind settled on one of the friends I had when I played back then. I couldn't really remember the ign perfectly so I spent the last hour trying to break into a youtube account I haven't used since 2008. When I finally managed to get in I found the exact spelling and remembered the name of her other character. Just like I expected, in the rankings, her characters were still there stuck in the sands of time. Seeing the old gear hairs and faces kind of brought on some bittersweet feelings. We had some really good times together. It has been almost 9 years since I have talked to her. I doubt she even remembers me.

The two igns that I remember from back then are Kitsumarii and SweetSaii. Both characters were originally from Kradia, but SweetSaii migrated to Mardia when world transfers were still a thing. I remember horny mushrooms to the right of Sleepywood in the ant hill tunnel. We would kill those for hours. I died so much with my terrible internet connection. We spent a ton of time doing the quests in NLC for the pendant. We never got very far back then, but I had fun and that's all that mattered at the time. I'm not under the delusion that I will ever be able to speak to that person again, but it certainly felt good writing this out. I like the new Maplestory don't get me wrong, but I will always miss the people and the times we shared in old maple.

Anyways, thanks for reading what I had to say. I'd love to hear any stories you have to share.

In Galicia, my first best maple friend was Zemeora. I remember we used to spend hours as low level noobs trying to get to Zakum's altar and the whole time we would commentate and pretend like we were in a horror movie. I remember logging on maybe in 2012 or 2013 (at this point i'd moved to Bera for a couple of years and only checked back on Galicia every couple of months) and he was actually online after 4 years and I was so happy and we reminisced about old times but I never saw him again. Then as time went on and I became a little better at Maple, I became friends with NewAranxEra (also has a shad named Resentings). We were such good friends and he became a mercher so I idolized him for having all these (at the time) great equips. He got pretty popular in Galicia and we kind of drifted since I was still pretty noobish. I never got to say goodbye to him. Another friend I had was Hedrago (aka ObsoleteEdge) who actually defended me against a maple bully when I was 10 and told him off for me. In Bera I became friends with another Bishop, who at the time was at a way lower level than me, named NickHealzYou. This is all pretty recent so like 2011 or 2012. I loved talking to him honestly and we had so much fun. Hanging out with him was honestly the last time I had genuine fun in maple. He, a paladin named Chocaine (super nice beta player), and I had our own little clique and we'd do old PQs for the nostalgia. I was like 12 or 13 at the time and I called him ugly(I didn't mean it omg :[) so we stopped being friends (the real reason was he was really high leveled and strong at this point and was part of a prestigious guild while I was still HSing at LHC for level 110s so I was kinda jealous). I miss him a lot to be honest and I don't know if he plays anymore but I wanna make amends with him. This is all just the tip of the iceberg, I could write a book about all the adventures I've had on this game.
Edit: If any of you guys know any of the people I mentioned please let me know. I really do wanna reconnect with the Maple friends I had when I was younger.

Im definitely more "successful" in maple now, but I still miss the times I had in scania with my friends. I remember waking up at 3 in the morning to zak with him in order to get my PB book. They helped me get to 154 which was the highest I'd been in maple since BB. I don't know if any of them play anymore but im no longer in scania anyways, so I probably wouldn't see any of em anyways.
The game was more time consuming, but it felt more rewarding back then to me.

Getting on top of the shed (?) next the the FM in Henesys Market, where only Corsairs and Shadowers (summoning bag) could on.

Oh, and CPQ. Honestly made levels 30-50 the most fun.

Lol ant tunnel 1, that one spot that spawned 3 horned mushrooms at a time right under the portal was the place to be, up until around lvl 30. That's when you somewhat move towards the zombie mushrooms at the bottom of the same map. I'd usually make a new character to try new jobs out by lvl 35 lul.

I had a friend who would always go on mushmom and balrog runs with me right after school. We'd go through every channel and find about 2-3 and it's the best feeling when a scroll drops. We would go to grim phantom watches together and literally spend hours and hours training there. When aqua road came out we migrated there to squids and the routine was the same, but this time it was a lot more fun because squids dropped gfa 60% and it was always exciting to find one. Good times

The traveling from Victoria Island to Ossyria or Orbis. Staying in that dark room because the crimson balrog outside. I will always miss KPQ. Those people who used auto clickers couldn't even get in because NPC Chat ftw. The old Ludibrium PQ where it took forever to complete 1, but it was actually fun. the other Ludi PQ for higher levels. I will always miss the old MS.

I'm more reminiscent about how long traveling used to take in Maple. I only remember a few of my really old maple friends; Tari77 and VivChoco. The latter of which I have spoken to on facebook, but we don't talk much. I don't remember much tbh, I remember hanging around heny and buying my first zak helm (41m) but not much else. Twas a good time back in the days.

That's an awesome story. In times of struggle, people come together and work as a community in order to flourish. Those without supreme strength fail without the collective strength of friends... without the collective strength of a team. I say this, because no longer is maple a struggle, nor a challenge. We are spoiled with damage reaching numbers we'd never dreamed of when perfect equips were scarce and unique and obtained purely through blood, sweat, and tears. This is why the maplestory today is not maplestory. It's a father with alzheimer's who repeatedly calls you by the wrong name. It's the heart of an innocent boy who watches his mother get beaten to death on the way home from school one day. It's nothing but an exoskeleton without a meaty substance. It will never be the same.
