Mario Kart 8 Thread
hello there. it's me, audio. you might remember me from such threads as the [url=http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2305742]Mario Kart 7 thread[/url]way back in 2011, but you probably won't because barely anyone had a 3DS at that point and the community room was only really active for like 2 days.
anyway since Mario Kart 8 is only a few weeks away and i'm having trouble controlling my hype, i figured i might as well make an equally ill-fated followup thread! feel free to discuss anything MK8-related here, post your NNIDs, etc.
basically i'm just trying to gauge interest for potential future basilmarket tournaments, but i'm not expecting more than like 3 people to own a Wii U in the first place. that will change in the future though hopefully maybe.
for now, i was wondering if anybody would be down for some casual Mario Kart 7 races in anticipation of 8's release? if so, lemme know and i can fire up the community again for old times' sake!

i'm gonna be off on vacation all of this week so if we maybe make a tentative arrangement for sometime this weekend? it'll give people time to voice interest and also to state when they are/aren't free

Get a refurbished WiiU and Mario Karts 8 right now. The refurbished WiiU is ridiculously cheap and Mario Karts now has an event in which you can get one out of 8 or so games for free.
If you really want it any cheaper than that, I will need to punch you for not accepting the already ridiculously low American prices :[.

not that it's even worth trying to get more than 1 star in every cup, because that's enough to unlock the gold kart and you don't earn anything more for getting 3 stars
just got my 3-star rank in every cup! this is the only mario kart game i've ever cared enough to achieve that in too, which says a lot about how much more balanced things generally are
also posting to gauge interest for the first ever BasilMarket League Mario Kart 8 Tournament? i'm surprised at how many people seem to have the game so i think we could get a good room going tbh
I WAS gonna get my copy but stupid Target sold it ... even after I reserved it, now they tell me to come back on Tuesday >.< .... never reserving at Target anymore

Is there a way for you to spectate friend's races?
There's an option to watch random races, but I really want to watch my friends play while taking a small break.

@audio: I've been putting off getting 3D World, because I was saving up money, but I'll be getting 3D world along with some others soon. And yeah, I was bummed about only getting 4 choices (I was going to pick The Wonderful 101).
And hm, favorite new track? Mount Wario (race from the top of the mountain to the bottom is pretty cool). Favorite retro track... eh they didn't really bring any of my old favorites into this game.

i'm one of the lucky european people who has a choice of 10 games instead of 4! although the extra 6 we get to choose from aren't really worth considering anyway, save for The Wonderful 101 and Monster Hunter. i dunno what i'm gonna pick either, Wind Waker HD was my initial thought but they messed up so bad with the remastered music in that game. probably gonna go with Pikmin
