I'm the same why, but I personally don't mind. The only way to change it is to do something about it. Simple ways are to talk to people, join a club, or if you're really desperare enough, go to church. Keep in mind, being alone doesn't mean being lonely.

Not really, a loner could know others exists without having to see them. Using "the" would either mean he is the only one, which isn't true or someone is referring specifically about him which couldn't happen if no one talked about him (since no one would know him).
