Sometimes you have to be sad for no reason

What do you think of this statement? I read it on twitter and it had so many favorites and retweets that my jaw just dropped. I understand like I'm stressed, but being sad for no reason? It seems like the girl who posted it did it for attention because the only time people are sad for no reason is so attention is directed towards them. It's just so weird to see this, why would you want to be sad at all...

"Sometimes you have to be sad for no reason", there should be a reason to be sad, or else just... why? Me, as a person who says, "I don't understand why I feel like this", is usually a lie to cover up the reason why I feel such a way. It can also be combined with attention seeking so someone can comfort them, while the other person slowly unraveling the wrapper full of unresolved issues.

That's how I see it.

Why do I have to be sad for no reason? Being sad won't solve any problems.

there's obviously an underlying reason that may not be as apparent as some things
I mean, even chronic depression has its reasons.... feeling unfulfilled, a loss, a break up, etc
but I don't believe that humans are innately depressed beings that it's just a thing to be sad for no reason

One cannot be sad for no reason. Sometimes, a person may think there is no reason behind their sadness simply just because they may be too overwhelmed by many different individual reasons, in which, they are unable to determine which is solely the cause for their sadness.

When someone asks me why I'm sad, I always answer, "I don't know," simply because I really do not know for which reason is the cause, as I'm just being generally stressed out.

Interestingly enough, trends in mood have been observed to equalize at a certain level between relative highs and lows throughout a typical day.

There doesn't necessarily have to be a "reason" behind these highs and lows, however I wouldn't refer to it in that manner regardless.
Wonder what would happen if she said happy instead of sad.
Well then you would be happy for no reason meaning that person would ignore their problems for the time being and act like every thing's alright. When the sentence contains sadness, something must be the source of that sadness. Why would you push aside everything that's making you content with life and then think of sad thoughts.
