5000 days on Basil I can't believe that I still visit this site weekly (even though there's not much activity anymore), and that Basil is still my browser homepage, a habit I began when I was only 13. MapleStory sure has changed a lot - not for the better - and that has definitely contributed to Basil's lack of activity. However, I think it's more significant that the internet in general has changed so much since Basil's best years (2005-2012). Thanks to resources like Reddit and Discord, people with no programming or leadership experience can quickly and easily grow a community like we used to have here. In some ways this is a good thing, but I lament the loss of forums, and that everything online seems so centralized now; wasn't it more f

Pokemon Y 1.2 eShop Update Issue Hi, everyone. I recently finished playing through the main story of Pokemon Y, and am just starting to try to trade and raise what will hopefully be perfect Pokemon. However, due to a recent update for Pokemon Y (version 1.2, I think) my version is outdated, and thus I cannot connect to the internet. However, when I go to to the eShop (to try to install the 1.2 update) I get the error code "005-4240". It reads: "An error has occurred. Please try again later. If this problem persists, please visit support.nintendo.com." I went to Nintendo's support section, and it says this update only occurs when the eShop is down or going through maintenance. I've had this error for the entire day, thoug

Your Favorite Type of Weather The poll is about your favorite season, but I'd like you to describe a specific occurrence in the weather of your favorite season that you look forward to every year. Also, tell us about your favorite month. For example, my favorite season is summer, my favorite month is June, and I find that sudden afternoon thunderstorms in the summer are the best things ever. They leave the hot asphalt with that rainy smell once the storm subsides, and it seems that because its summer people can stop what they're doing while its pouring outside. I like to open a window and listen to this recording during these storms too:

Training Areas and Ap Distribution Hi, everyone. I haven't played Maple seriously since the summer of 2010, and since I've got a little more free time than usual I decided to start playing very casually again. I wanted to work on one of my lower leveled characters, my bandit, who is level 75. Can you tell me where I should train up to level 100, and how I should distribute my AP (in terms of capping)? I'm a STR Bandit if that matters. Thanks! Also, any equipment help would be welcomed too. I've got the basics (PAC, Zakum Helmet, ATT WG)...

Does Anybody Miss the Old Map Layouts? I really miss the old maps, especially those in Victoria Island. Honestly, the new maps sort of made me feel like the sense of adventure in the game was lost. You can warp to any PQ from so many places, and most of the maps are just really linear, almost like they're all training grounds. Plus you can just change channels in the Cursed Sanctuary and end up there again (as opposed to going back to the giant door before the cold eyes). Does anybody else miss the old map layouts?

What Should I Do About a Cape? Hi, guys. Before Big Bang came out I scrolled a 13 INT, 8 MATK hammered PuAC, and I recently used a potential scroll on it. I've gotten it to 2 lines unique, but the potential isn't that great. I know that I'll probably use some more cubes on it before (and if) I decide to sell it. But should I be using a different cape? I've only asked a few people and they told me to stick with this PuAC since it's scrolled not too badly. Are there any better options? Also, how much would my PuAC be worth in case I decide to change capes? I'm kind of still learning about potential and item values since I've only recently started playing a little bit since last summer.

Great Laptops for a Variety of Uses Hi, everybody. Well, since the time for Christmas deals is almost up I've been contemplating buying a new laptop, and I need some advice in terms of what brand and model of laptop to consider. Currently I'm a freshman college student who double majors in music performance and history, so a laptop that has a good sound system is a must (I've had laptops in the past that aren't loud enough, or laptops that cause the sound to become distorted at higher volumes). I also play games from time-to-time (a few hours per week), so I need a system that will be able to handle games like TF2 and CoD (I won't be playing anything more intense than these two). In the past I've used Dell's XPS M1530 and M1730 models, and

The Thing that Saddens Me Most about Big Bang This thread contains my personal reflection on the past five years of MapleStory. It pretty much shows some of the most meaningful events that occurred during my own early (May 2005 to late 2006) game that I believe are noteworthy. Some of you in Scania who have been playing there since Beta or early after might remember some of the people I mention. Well, after five years worth of playing MapleStory from the very beginning, the "veteran" MapleStory I know now is coming to a close. From fostering long-lasting friendships with people who I know in real life today; to my brother my cousins and I taking steps more than necessary to avoid the plague of keylogging; to making t
