Elemental Wands and Staves Guide

Edit 3: Edited for more ease on the eyes.
Edit 2: Thank you @KaiAvalon, @LEGENDairy, and @KilometerSlayer for helping me solve the problem I had with the Tootip system. You each get a cookie.
Edit: Tried using the new Tooltip System Mr. Basil implemented and it didn't work. Anyone know if I'm typing it incorrectly?
[header] Elemental Wands and Staves Guide[/header]
Note: This guide was created to reduce the amount of questions, confusion, and misunderstandings of elemental wands and staves and which corresponding class should use them.

Depending on which elemental wand or staff you use, it could either add a damage bonus toward the corresponding element for skills that mages have or decrease damage because of an elemental penalty. Obviously, they were made to increase damage for mages, so there is a correct one each should use. Each Elemental Wand or Staff gives a primary stat boost of 10% and a secondary stat boost of 5%. The other elemental penalty is -25%.
I.E. [item=Elemental Wand 7] and [item=Elemental Staff 3], for example, adds a boost to ice and lightning attribute skills; ice being the primary boost while lightning being the secondary.

[header]Damage Bonuses[/header]
These are how the bonuses are applied in the game but there are mistakes Nexon forgot about. In parenthesis I have listed the boosts that should be correct, but is not because Nexon coded the weapons wrong or something. If you do not use the correct corresponding wand or staff to the skill, damage will be reduced by -25% for the unrelated attribute. (I.E. an F/P Mage using a [item=Elemental Wand 3] or [item=Elemental Wand 4] or an Evan using [skill=Evan=Fire Breath] or [skill=Evan=Earthquake] with a [item=Elemental Wand 4] or [item=Elemental Staff 8])

[item=Elemental Staff 1] and [item=Elemental Staff 2] both give 110% fire damage and 105% poison damage. ([item=Elemental Staff 2] should give 110% poison damage and 105% fire damage)
[item=Elemental Staff 3] and [item=Elemental Staff 4] both give 110% ice damage and 105% lightning damage. ([item=Elemental Staff 4] should give 110% lightning damage and 105% ice damage)
[item=Elemental Staff 5] and [item=Elemental Staff 6] both give 110% fire damage and 105% poison damage. ([item=Elemental Staff 6] should give 110% poison damage and 105% fire damage)
[item=Elemental Staff 7] gives 110% lightning damage and 105% ice damage. ([item=Elemental Staff 7] should give 110% ice damage and 105% lightning damage; basically the bonuses of [item=Elemental Staff 7] and [item=Elemental Staff 8] should be switched)
[item=Elemental Staff 8] gives 110% ice damage and 105% lightning damage. ([item=Elemental Staff 8] should give 110% lightning damage and 105% ice damage; again, bonuses of [item=Elemental Staff 8] and [item=Elemental Staff 7] should be switched)

[item=Elemental Wand 1] gives 110% fire damage and 105% poison damage.
[item=Elemental Wand 2] gives 110% poison damage and 105% fire damage.
[item=Elemental Wand 3] gives 110% ice damage and 105% lightning damage.
[item=Elemental Wand 4] gives 110% lightning damage and 105% ice damage.
[item=Elemental Wand 5] and [item=Elemental Wand 6] both give 110% fire damage and 105% poison damage. ([item=Elemental Wand 6] should give 110% poison damage and 105% fire damage)
[item=Elemental Wand 7] and [item=Elemental Wand 8] both give 110% ice damage and 105% lightning damage. ([item=Elemental Wand 8] should give 110% lightning damage and 105% ice damage)

[header]Recommendation of amount of secondary (LUK) stat build associated with which wand or staff[/header]
Magicians use LUK as their secondary stat. Depending on how much you can support your LUK will determine what type of weapon you can use. Elemental Wands do not require any LUK to equip while Elemental Staves do. So, in other words, this part all depends on funding. There are other alternative LUKless weapons that you can find in the "Alternatives Staves" and "Alternative Wands" section below. You can still be LUKless (meaning a base LUK of 4 which is the lowest in the game) and be able to equip an [item=Elemental Staff 7]. You can also thank the potential system for further making it easier to equip secondary stat required items. Low-to-Medium-LUK could be anywhere around 20-65 LUK. Normal LUK would be probably around 80+. Even if you are unfunded, I recommend you at least cap your LUK around the Low-to-Medium level.

[header]Recommendation of which class associated with which wand or staff[/header]
Bishops use holy elemental skills. Bishops do not use any type of elemental weapon because it will decrease their damage by -25% because there is no holy elemental wand or staff. A [item=VIP Wand] or [item=VIP Staff] would be another alternative for Bishops.

Ice/Lightning Mages should use [item=Elemental Staff 3], [item=Elemental Staff 4] or [item=Elemental Wand 3] in third job because they're mainly focused in mobbing in ice attacks ([skill=Ice/Lightning Mage=Ice Strike] and [skill=Ice/Lightning Mage=Ice Demon]). [item=Elemental Wand 4] won't hurt. In fourth job, [item=Elemental Staff 7] is ideal because of the lightning damage boost for [skill=Ice/Lightning Arch Mage=Chain Lightning], their main attack. [item=Elemental Wand 7] or [item=Elemental Wand 8] is also great.

Fire/Poison Mages should use [item=Elemental Staff 1], [item=Elemental Staff 2] or [item=Elemental Wand 1] in third job because they're mainly focused in mobbing in fire attacks ([skill=Fire/Poison Mage=Explosion] and [skill=Fire/Poison Mage=Fire Demon]). [item=Elemental Wand 2] won't hurt. In fourth job, [item=Elemental Staff 5] or [item=Elemental Staff 6] is ideal because of fire boost. If the boosts were corrected, [item=Elemental Wand 6] and [item=Elemental Staff 6] would be ideal because of the poison damage boost for [skill=Fire/Poison Arch Mage=Paralyze] and [skill=Fire/Poison Arch Mage=Mist Eruption]. [item=Elemental Wand 5] or [item=Elemental Wand 6] is also great.

Blaze Wizards should only use [item=Elemental Staff 1], [item=Elemental Staff 2] or [item=Elemental Wand 1] because their majority of attacks are fire based. [item=Elemental Wand 2] won't hurt.

Evans should use either [item=Elemental Staff 1], [item=Elemental Staff 2] or [item=Elemental Wand 1] from level 80-120 because their attacks are fire based. Perhaps level 100-120 would be better because you'd probably be using [skill=Evan=Dragon Thrust] from level 60-100. At the last (tenth) master, Evans should use either [item=Elemental Staff 5] or [item=Elemental Staff 6]. [item=Elemental Wand 5] or [item=Elemental Wand 6] is also great.

Battle Mages should only use elemental staves because they do not use wands. Any elemental staff will do because Battle Mages use the staves for an attacking speed boost, not a damage boost (since Battle Mages have no element they will not receive a -25% decrease in damage).

[header]Alternative Staves[/header]
[item=Maple Pyrope Staff]
[item=VIP Staff]
[item=Eligos Bloody Rod]
[item=Dragon Tail War Staff]
[item=Alma Von Leon Staff]
[item=Reverse Aeas Hand]
[item=Timeless Aeas Hand]
[item=Doomsday Staff]

[header]Alternative Wands[/header]
[item=Maple Pyrope Wand]
[item=VIP Wand]
[item=Alma Von Leon Wand]
[item=Eligos Bloody Wand]
[item=Reverse Enreal Tear]
[item=Timeless Enreal Tear]
[item=Dragon Tail Arc Wand]
(These are not all the alternatives, but I think they're some good ones)

[header]Other Considerations[/header]
Thank you @Kalemora for pointing out some FAQs.

• Elemental Wands/Staves do not affect the damage of Summons nor Element Composition (EMS).
• Elemental Wands/Staves do not affect the damage of Neutral spells; such as Magic Claw and Energy Bolt.
• Elemental Wands/Staves do not affect the damage of Dark spells; such as Dark Fog and Killing Wing.
• Elemental Wands/Staves do not affect the damage over time effect of spells; such as Flame Gears' burning effect.
• Elemental Wands/Staves do affect the damage of spells made Neutral by Elemental Reset.
Nice guide you have on the way here, Emil.
Though I think you should add these to it:

• Elemental Wands/Staves do not affect the damage of Summons nor Element Composition.

I see a few questions regarding those from time to time. The Comp bit isn't relevant to GMS anymore, but you may want to keep it for EMSers. Up to you.
Well, I sorta did mention that the wands and staves only affect the primary and secondary elements so it would be common sense that it would not affect Magic Claw, but good point. I'll add that and your other points. Thanks and thank you for commenting. ^_^
lol nvm - I'll get back to you on how to potentially fix the tooltip problems.

edit: they seem to be bugged atm
Yeah, seemed bugged because it was working last time (except for some skills for some classes). I won't bother to change it because it's just gunna be too much extra work; I'll just wait until Mr. B fixed it.

@IImaplers: Lol. Now I hav ea problem with the tooltip system and skills...worked for some skills, not all.
Anyone know how to fix that?

@darklime: this is the code to make something appear as a header: "[ HEADER ]abc[ / HEADER ]" (take out spaces and quotes)

It only works in original posts though.

@Abysseon: thanks for the corrections.

hmm and look what I just learned how to do lol: ♠♠♠♠♠♠♠♠♠♠

@Abysseon: Thanks for the post! I'll work on making it less "wally." Also, Maybe a history of them is unnecessary because this was intended for the contemporary version of the game.

@Abysseon: That's true, which is why guides are handy. =] I remember there was a page on basilmarket showing how to insert headers and all that stuff. if you know where the link is, mind posting it here? Also, thanks for the reply.

@Green4EVER: Alright, but I still wanted to try out Mr. Basil's new Tooltip system so I had to add each weapon individually, which is okay. Also, I'm STILL getting questions and PMs which is why I made this guide: to decrease the amount of questions asked about elemental weapons.
tbh I don't see a point in making an ele guide, it's simple logic.
The point is to, like I said to @Green4EVER, is to reduce the amount of questions asked about elemental weapons. It might be simple for us, but many others are confused. Some people did not even know that some bonuses were incorrect. Knowing this, they might do an action, like sending a ticket to Nexon, so our chances of fixing this error will be greater (even though it looks dim).

@IImaplers: History seems accurate. In fact, you and @Abysseon can always help add on to this as a collaboration. The reason why I did not add the history is 1) It was late and it did not cross my mind and 2) I did not know the entire history timeline. However, I did put in a summary saying that these weapons were implemented to raise damage for mages.

@darklime: you could try and add headers (or put the bolded sections in headers). Also, a timeline on how and why we got ele wands. This is probably chronologically inaccurate (@abysseon is probably the expert when it comes to ele wand history) but I think it happened like this:

1. JMS first (?) implemented elemental weapons some years before Big Bang in order to improve AMs' damage due to Bishops out-damaging them (especially at the most in-demand training place in the game - which was Skeles .). These weapons gave out an elemental bonus for certain attacks but also a 25% damage penalty to holy attacks to prevent bishops from using them:

the blue ele weapons: 25% ice damage bonus, 10% lightning damage bonus, 25% holy damage reduction
the yellow ele weapons: 25% lightning damage bonus, 10% ice damage bonus, 25% holy damage reduction
the red ele weapons: 25% fire damage bonus, 10% poison damage bonus, 25% holy damage reduction
the purple ele weapons: 25% poison damage bonus, 10% fire damage bonus, 25% holy damage reduction

2. about a year (?) after JMS came out with ele weapons, GMS also got them. But when GMS got them, they never had an elemental bonus nor penalty attached to them, which upset AMs and further propelled bishops to use them.

3. some months after they came out in GMS, the weapons were reprogrammed to finally receive the bonuses they should have gotten in the first place. AMs were still unhappy because the holy damage reduction wasn't implemented yet, thus bishops still had an upper hand and an unfair advantage.

4. a bit later the holy damage penalty was finally added to the weapons.

5. when Big Bang hit, Nexon, without informing anyone, decided to remove the elemental bonuses from the ele weapons citing "if the bonuses are kept, this would overpower AMs". This outraged the AM (and Evan) community.

6. months (I think it was about 1-2 months) after Big Bang hit, and numerous complaint threads/tickets on Nexon's website, Nexon re-added an elemental bonus to the weapons but a nerfed version of it (10% primary element, 5% secondary element was presumed to be intended). AMs kind of put away their pitchforks and torches only to realize that the bonuses were re-added incorrectly.

7. *tumbleweeds roll by in Nexon office*
Reading never hurts. I think that this would clear up lots of questions and misunderstandings. If you'd like to make a summary, please do.
Elemental Wands 1, 2, 5, and 6 give 10% Fire Bonus, 5% Poison Bonus, and a 25% Penalty to all other elements and are used by F/P Mages and higher level Evans.
Elemental Wands 3, 4, 7, and 8 give 10% Ice Bonus, 5% Lightning Bonus, and a 25% Penalty to all other elements and are used by I/L Mages and lower level Evans.
Replace the word Wands with Staffs for Elemental Staff bonuses. Battle Mages are able to use all 8 of the Elemental Staffs without receiving the Penalty.

Simple as that.
this is... so unnecessary.... you could sum this up into 2-3 sentences easily.
Simple, to the point > wall of text.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I appreciate it.
my ele staff 7 is still 110% lighting and 105% ice? weird i hope it fix it ( blue blue blue orb is suppose to be meant blue = ice not lighting WTF nexon!) give 110% ice not lighting and 8 deserved 110% lighting imo!. i guess my bishop stick with 120 weapon but lv140 look smexy! imo
Yeah, it is still that way. I just doubt Nexon will fix it and if they do it won't be anytime soon. The good thing, for me at least, is that if CWKPQ comes back, I can use a Ele Staff 7 for this guy since it gives 110% lightning.
