I need help on how to get rid of a keylogger.

Title says it all. I downloaded AVG virus protection (trial) and did a full system scan, anti-rootkit scan, removed all duplicate files, automatic updates are on, and everything shows that it's enabled. I'm not sure if it got rid of the keylogger. My friend told me to sue norton and scan it like a billion times, but i can't get norton. So I need to use AVG. Should I keep scanning with avg or am I safe? If I need to provide more info, tell me please. ty.

When you run a scan with a competent anti-virus scanner (like AVG) and it turns up nothing, you can be reassured that you've cleaned the computer of anything you're likely to pick up from Maple Story and gamer sites.

Scan twice and if it doesn't come up with anything else, don't worry about it.

BUT- don't stop using AVG. Make sure it's set to automatically UPDATE itself EVERY DAY, and to SCAN your computer automatically EVERY DAY. That way you can be sure in the future that you're keeping the system clean.

ALSO- as Quan456 said, you should use "Malwarebytes" IN ADDITION to using an anti-virus. Malwarebytes is an "anti-spyware" scanner that's specially optimized to find the kind of garbage that is intended to steal your info, like "keyloggers". It works as a "backup" to your anti-virus scanner.

The free version of Malwarebytes has to be UPDATED manually before you run it, so it can find all the newest spyware, but it's highly recommended by most people here (including me). If Malwarebytes doesn't find anything, in addition to your anti-virus, then you're OK.

Run Malwarebytes about once a week to be sure it's still clean.

And as Quan said, you don't need the trial version of the paid AVG security suite program. "AVG Free" works just fine (it's the one I use).

If you are going to get AVG, just get the free version, instead of a trial version of a security package that going end like in a month. Plus have a firewall setup like Comodo or ZoneAlarm.

Anyways, run a scan with Malwarebytes as well. It's design to find these type of spywares.
