Couple of questions
1. Is it possible to successfully mine/dig heart stones/gold flowers? I'm pretty sure I read that it's impossible, but that just seems... dumb o.o
2. Is anyone else having massive d/c issues? it usually happens when I'm trying to cc and the game either brings me back to the log in screen or just completely closes.

I think you may have mistaken reading "impossible" for the dig heart stones/gold flowers. I always did it successfully (at least I remember it being that way), but the other posts were probably about primal essenses and roses.
It's probably 1% chance, or extreme luck.
@Dilbert868: Just a whole bunch of random (usually high leveled) ores and some of those things that help you raise imps.
