Possible world "merging"?

Nexon said in their latest iteration of Dev Blog that they would be preforming an attempt at "merging" worlds later this month.
Citation: http://maplestory.nexon.net/FunStuff/Articles.aspx?boardNo=400&contentNo=00BpV&pageIndex=1
Well, it's not exactly merging them, but I still don't think players will like this.

You players in the bigger world's might wonder how we get by, but personally, I love Kradia just the way it is.
We have very little Ksing here, while still having a viable FM. I love Kradia, and chose it because of the fact that it has few people.
I'm glad that Nexon is just testing this out, and I hope that they do not keep it.

Note: This is not a "merge" in the traditional sense, instead you will still login through your own world. However when in the world you will be able to play with people from the other world that you "merged" with. Thus keeping the 2 servers, while still putting the players together.

The thing I want to hear is if other basilers from "dead" servers think that this is good, or bad.
Please leave your opinions below.
I was under the impression this meant they would merge PQ zones and FM, but keep the rest of the maps the same. That way you could play on your ghost yellonde map and also go to FM with real items, or be able to actually find somebody to PQ with. Maybe even merge all of amoria? that way all marriages and APQ can be merged.

I hope that is what it is, that'd actually be beneficial
Hmm maybe they should just merge pqs for underpopulated worlds and maybe fm but leave the normal areas the way they are...? So no ksing and ppl cam keep their server pride (:
WOW! This is seriously the best plan I've heard yet!
And if you want to hang with players from the other world, maybe like 1-2 channels can be for that... Or they can just go to a different channel of FM
Free world transfers is not an answer. It would be really easy for a group from a bigger world to go and totally take over a smaller world.
Thing is, not everybody would transfer at all, much less to the same world. They would probably spread out, and go where their friends went.

merging suck. we love the way it should be in Yellonde !(but economy suck) or any other low population world. we love lonely and no one ksing bosses. And I can say it was impossible to enter two world with the same character. And i guess this will true that low population world will merging together. =(

i think they should just make char transfer worth a bit less nx...$25 just to transfer a char. is kinda too much.

but i just dont understand how u guys stand a little fm isn;t it so freaking hard to find stuff? we fill all 25 fm rooms of the fm, and some on channel 2.

Hmm.. I think Bera needs to split to more channels too cause I've notice almost every channel in floors 32~35 in Eos Tower seems to have hackers and its like impossible to train there.. sure I love Bera with all 21 spots full of FM.. but meh its just laggy at times that I wished I was somewhere more lonely...

Hm
It's interesting, this topic.. I'm from Zenith and I enjoy my server, though it's become more dead then usual lately, which is sad.

But after reading the comments about ideas of merging worlds, but not really merging worlds, I think is a great idea

I would LOVE to have Zenith the way I have it now, but when it comes to searching for PQ/Bossing and FM - it is connected to another world (example, El Nido (which was created at the same time)). Now that would be an idea, don't you think?

Would be better for small populated servers

If they do do a merge it should be of smaller servers. Merging empty servers with overpopulated servers would just make the overpopulation worse and make the small-server users angry. Putting together two small worlds, though, I could see working....
And stop joking about merging Scania and Windia! I get a headache thinking about it!
@PeaBucket: LOL! Not really... everytime i go to LHC its empty as hell... and with more people comes lower prices because more abundance of items... however the downside is more hackers and whatnot -.-
I meant during the 2x. Normally it's pretty empty, but if it can fill up already, imagine how bad it will get during 2x after an 'alliance'... Especially if Mardia is the less populated world.

And yeah, I guess it would benefit our economy. More items and stuff. More competition.
Merge something with Mardia! We need more channels and more people! MARDIA IS FINE THE WAY IT IS GODDAMMIT!

Maybe a full set of channels would be nice, but most people will be pretty upset if our population doubles. We already fill up LHC when there's a 2x, peak hours provide plenty of difficulty getting into zak. WE'RE HAPPY.

YOU HEAR THAT NEXON? MARDIA'S FINE. GO TINKER WITH THE OTHER SERVERS <3

Lol.. Some people are arguing as if they have the right or priviledge to prevent their worlds from becoming healthily populated. This world merge program is just designed to creatively save money. Rankings will still be kept in check. Its honestly either this or you cut the number of channels, pick your poison. You read the blog -- they originally were just thinking of obliterating the world tags and just mushing worlds together. Be grateful you at least keep your world benefits albeit seeing more character pixels (boohoo its an MMO, if you want quiet time go hop in a mini dungeon or play a single player game).

MMORPG = MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER Online Role-Playing Game.

Here's my take on the entire situation (not just about the world 'merging')

I wouldn't exactly be able to understand how the people of the least populated worlds would feel about 'merging' with another least populated world mind you. I'll only say it's good for merging if it's actually extremely dead. The 2 week 2x release was a good strategy for bringing people in for creating new characters there but it eventually died down from what I'm seeing. o_0

As for the overpopulated worlds such as Scania, I like the idea of adding more channels + server capacity to it rather than just restricting players from creating characters. <--- That right there is better than releasing more servers that will eventually die out IMO, and they can still wait for people to join the already existing less populated servers. When the Resistance came out, they released Zenith AND El Nido at the same time. Several weeks later, bam! Arcania was released; not really giving the newly released servers a chance to get more players, the population died down, and thus wasting more server capacity that way. If they want to promote a dead server that much, than yeah make more events for them; makes more sense to me if you think about it.

This may not sound like the best idea but my suggestion would be getting inactive accounts (that have not been touched for 4+ years or something) to be moved over to the least populated worlds. I highly doubt that you'll still have connections with anyone else if you ever return and you'll be making a 'new start' anyways. I think they should send an email notification saying "Hi 4 year inactive account! Your characters will be moved to (inactive world here) if you don't start playing by (insert date here). If you would still like to move to another world or stay, log onto your MapleStory account and make your choice!" or something like that.

As for the idea of giving out "free character world transfers" I think that would save a lot for them and the people that want to move out of Scania. I constantly see people complaining about how Scania has ksers, scammers, overpopulation, hackers (which I agree to an extent), and they want to move out so why not give them the free choice to leave? I personally wouldn't leave my server because of the endless amount of connections I made with people.

On top of that, one of the main reasons why Scania gets so overcrowded is because of the amount of bots I see from FM and other places; I'd honestly would like to see them work on that (not saying it's easy but still lol) problem. =|
Not necessarily. What Nexon is going to test out is a type of world merge except that players will still log on through their respective world. The world names will still exist on the world selection screen but the place they both end up in will be the same. Both will end up in a single server.
Exactly, that just brings more tension between servers that are together. And in my opinion, it may not be the same, but essentially the problem of merging servers is no less remedied with a world alliance.

This explains why I might've seen a guy in El Nath with Mardia in his IGN. (Might've been Windia, I forgot) Imagine how long it would take to browse the FM.

I could really care less, low or high population doesn't matter to me really. My main is in Bera where I've been since I started MS, and I just made a Hero on Zenith which is a complete turn around. We have 6 completely full FM's right now and while that's hard to get by for some people it's actually pretty refreshing. Prices are really flexible right now, it honestly seems dirt cheap to me because of how long I've been in Bera. (I just made a reverse executioners all adv. with like 150m ^^) MTS is off so there's no MTS merching, it's all scrolls and items. I had no problem with KSers going from 45-100 at scarecrows/jesters, which is also pretty amazing to me. I like it like this a lot for a change of scenery but I wouldn't really care if they merged..
