Everyone has problems with technology. In our case, we're dealing with Maplestory. We all have problems loading, downloading, starting up the game, and so on, and there seems to be no actual place where you can find solutions to these errors. With that said, I made this guide to aid all you maplers who need help, but cannot seem to find it.
And don't worry, I understand that not everyone is a computer geek so I won't be giving you the extreme details. (e.g 5.60c0de#RAM3.00GhzRm360stationary%input% etc.)
It may sound funny, but if you look within the system, these "codes" are actually what makes all these things run- including Maplestory.
[b]The solutions are PC Tested, so those of you with macs and whatnot probably won't really get much of a benefit with this guide, but anything's possible.[/b]

This is my first guide on basilmarket (and probably the only one I'll ever make) so I'll need all your help to find errors in typing, and if sentences are not specific enough or unclear, please tell me so I can change it. Also, there is [b]absolutely no[/b] link/url in this guide that can harm you in any way; else this guide would be useless.

[i]-This is generally a guide [b]IN PROGRESS[/b] for [b]GLOBAL MAPLESTORY Technical Problems[/b][/i], although even if you're not a player of GMS, this can still help you somewhat. Because it's basically technical info about your system, It also contains tips to help it.

and a surplus of other great information for your computer and other electronic devices.

[*]Explaining how to delete and Redownload/install Maplestory successfully (using the normal download from website) [b]-Should fix any startup errors.[/b]
We all know redownloading this huge game is very irritating, and often times it doesn't work till the 2nd or 3rd download.
Use this guide below, and you should be successful every single time. Why does this work? It allows you to delete the files that Maplestory.exe
DOES NOT DELETE after you've deleted it, such as the nexon folder, pando media booster, NGM, and whatnot. This allows the problems to stay exactly the same no matter how many times you redownload it- because it's always the same corrupted file being used each time.

[i]This section is finished and functional as of 5/28/2013, please PM if you require assistance for anything.[/i]

[b]Step 1:[/b] Close ALL active programs, this includes Antivirus scans and anything along those lines. (I recommend restarting the computer)
[b]Step 2:[/b] Delete the Nexon Folder, typically located in local disk C
[b]Step 3:[/b] Approach to delete the actual "Maplestory" from All Programs, get here through control panel. (The deletion should be instantaneous, saying it's not installed.) (Located in your programs list, reach here from control panel> uninstall/change applications> scroll down.)
[b]Step 4:[/b] Delete "Pando Media Booster" and "Nexon Game Manager" (Found exactly where Maplestory is- you can sort the list by name if that helps.)
[b]Step 5:[/b] Search for anything that has to do with maplestory/nexon/ngm/wizet etc. on your hardrive, and remove it completely. One way to search would be to go to "Run" and click browse, from there use the search engine at the top to find anything that has to do with Maplestory.
[b]Step 6:[/b] Clean/Scan Local Disk C: also, as an addition, I recommend you "compress" it to save space, if not already done so. (Don't do this if it takes too long.)
[b]Step 7:[/b] Have a virus/malware scan using your antivirus. (Don't have an Antivirus program? Search Google and find free download trials for one.)
[b]Step 8:[/b] It would be beneficial to use Internet Explorer/Firefox to download the game from their support site. Link: http://maplestory.nexon.net/support/game-download
[b]Step 9:[/b] Then finally take about 1-4 hours redownloading maplestory with absolutely NO programs currently running. (Take a break and relax!)

[i]If you need help on a problem, and do not want to take the time to do all that annoying technical stuff, you've come to the right section.[/i]
Serious Logic goes into this section of the guide, even though it should be already known, it seems it's needed and if this doesn't work, then it's time to keep scrolling.
[b]Step 1[/b]: Ask yourself, "Why is this happening?" Then start to backtrack. What did you do recently that may cause this error to occur? If you do remember a couple things, or at least something, [b]UNDO it[/b]! Although if you don't remember, there are ways you can technically figure out and generally undo it.
[b]Step 2[/b]: General Way to UNDO a problem- System Restore your computer to the state where Maplestory WAS working. Please note that if any other changes were made during the time, they may be lost- so make sure you find files you need and save them either online or externally (e.g google drive)

[b]How to Remove Lag and Disconnections[/b]
[i]Introduction:[/i]
This section will be on removing lag and disconnection problems, so if you're having problems or know that someone else is, make sure they refer here.
This is probably the most useful section in the entire guide, so I will constantly add to it and fix it.
Keep in mind that not all these solutions will apply to every single one of you, so I've added as many as I can for the best results.
[b]Town Lag, FM CC 1 Lag, and other very laggy areas will never be a problem after this[/b]

[i]Information:[/i]
Latency is the proper name for the time it takes a pack of information to be sent from the sender to the receiver over a network. "Lag" is what it is generally called and more specifically when it is noticeable. If the latency is low, you don't notice any lag, and [i]the longer it takes a pack to cross the network, the more lag you have.[/i]

[*]End Processes that do not have to be running: Task Manager>Processes Tab>Select Any Unnecessary Program>End Process (Hit the "Memory" button on the processes tab to sort the programs so you can see what's eating up most of your memory. Google the programs you don't know about and find out if it is safe to end them.)
[*]Start your system with less programs running: Run> Type "msconfig">Select your preferred startup process.
-For the solution above, I use Selective Start Up, which allows me to manually select programs that I want running. If you don't know what should run or what should, go to
the "Startup" tab and uncheck any program that you don't want to be running in the background eating memory. (E.g Itunes, Video Players, etc.) This can also be done under the "Services" tab, but make sure the "Hide all Microsoft services" box is checked. (You don't want to stop programs you need.)
[*]If lag is excessive, log in to maplestory, go to the bottom toolbar and click system, then go to system options, and drag both the Graphics, AND Effects buttons all the way to the left, and check BOTH the mute boxes. (Yes, sound can also lag you.)
[*]Make sure you have absolutely NO other program running while Maplestory is on. Other programs such as Google Chrome can really slow your computer down.
[*]Task Manager>Processes Tab>Click "Memory" to sort the list from highest memory-eating programs to lowest. By doing this, you can manage all the programs that shouldn't be using so much memory, and kill them AS LONG AS THEY'RE NOT BEING USED. Such as explorer.exe. Make sure you've researched about the certain program you want to kill BEFORE killing it, so you know that it is safe to do so.
[*]While Maplestory is running, go to task manager and go to the processes tab and END explorer.exe. The desktop icons will disappear but that's okay. To have them return,
Go to task manager>file>new task and open explorer.exe again
[*]Delete all useless programs (e.g trials, unecessary things)
[*]Clean out %temp% folder by going to run and typing "%temp%" then delete the contents inside, NOT the folder.

Whenever Black Cipher Starts, the crash error appears and doesn't allow you to start the game. Well now there's a solution.

[i]Solution:[/i]
Go to Maplestory/Nexon folder (depends if you are going through steam apps or not) and create a brand new folder, and name it "Previous Version". Now you have to wait an [i]entire day[/i]. The next morning make sure you go back to the new folder you just created and right click it and choose restore previous version. Once you do that run the game launcher as administrator and it should work perfectly.

1. Right now, I only have 4 experimental solutions, but the 100% solution (solution that always works) is to redownload maplestory. Please scroll down to the section "Re-downloading Maplestory" you can also CRTL+ F that exact wording.

4. Nexon folder>Maplestory>Right-click Gamelauncher>Troubleshoot compatibility>Use recommended settings>save>run as administrator before playing.

[i]Conclusion:[/i] Please try them and see if any of them works, so we can have a solution for that error. You can also refer to google however,
as of right now, I'm assuming it is caused by failure to download Maplestory correctly (some files missing, not exactly "outdated".)
Usually Steam users have this problem, and the occasional website-launch user.
So in the end, redownloading would be your best solution, since the files are basically corrupted, missing, or removed.

This is an uncommon error that has happened before, but you can't do anything other than wait for Nexon to fix it.
[i]If you think you're being hacked:[/i] Please change all your security info (including email) immediately and submit a ticket to Nexon.

[i]Unconfirmed Solution: [/i]I've also heard, by changing your security info (PIC, p/w, etc.) you may be able to log in. Just don't forget it! (Save the new information into a hidden folder.) Try it out!

[i]If the cause is due to lag:[/i]
-Solutions first, information after.
1. Task Manager>Processes Tab>Maplestory.exe>End Process
2. Log out, and restart Maplestory client
3. (If using game launcher) Log out, and log into a different account (you should ALWAYS have a spare) and get on a character. Once you're on, log out and relog on to your main account directly after.

You disconnected, and the game still assumes you're online. Wait a bit, and the game will disconnect your player, and you'll be able to log in.
This is because of massive lag.
If this is not the case, proceed to change your security passwords for your account immediately, and submit a ticket to Nexon.

[b]Conclusion:[/b] Don't worry, you aren't being hacked. But just in case, you may want to change all your security information to something harder, just to be on the safe side. Email security too! You should always update these things monthly, making it exceptionally difficult to crack. If anything, put the information in a hidden folder if you need it!

[*][b]Black Screen Error:[/b]

[i]Introduction:[/i]
When having problems loading during the black screen, use this. Sometimes it never loads, or disconnects, and can also simply freeze on you.
Very inconvenient, since Maplestory is always in it's "not responding" mode when starting. You never really know when it's working or not.
[i]Solution:[/i]
Go to start, and use the search bar to type CMD. Right click it and run as Administrator. Type in "ipconfig/flushdns" without the quotes and hit enter.
Next type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes and hit enter. Afterwards your need to reboot.

[*][b]Requested: Firewall error[/b]

Start>Control Panel> System+Security (wherever your firewall program is)> Windows Firewall >"Allow a program through firewall"> Click Change settings > then scroll down to find "Maplestory" and make sure both boxes for it are checked. Then save your settings.

Very Common error, Here's how to fix it.
Start>Control panel> Click adjust screen resolution> Advanced settings>Find Adapter Tab and click "properties" at the top.> Driver tab> Update Driver> Search automatically for updated driver software>download any new drivers found.

Just Change browsers for this error, and it is recommended to use internet explorer to download/install maplestory, and maybe playing it for the first time as well.
The problem involved starting Maplestory (Game Launcher and Maplestory Site) and resulted in disconnection right after login.
Well to fix it, just re-download (using the re-download guide below) then install with internet explorer, and launch it from there the first time.
That should fix it! You can also use Firefox, but I do not recommend using Safari.

[*][b]Error Code 11004[/b]

[i]This is the most common of ALL errors codes in Maplestory[/i]

1. The first solution is simply closing and reopening your browser. Google Chrome sometimes has trouble launching the game from the browser. Try closing and reopening the browser and restarting the game.

2. The second solution is trying a different browser. This is mainly if you use chrome, because as stated above, chrome sometimes has trouble initializing the game.

3. The third solution is using the Game Launcher.

4. The fourth solution is Re-installing Maplestory. I'm not sure what this would really do if your files are clean and unedited, but a lot of people claim they have done this and fixed the error. So if it comes down to it, go ahead and try this.

5. The fifth solution is checking for a Microsoft Loopback adapter. This can affect maplestory from launching no matter if you launch from the site or gamelauncher. To see if you have one (these steps are for Windows 7) hit start, go to control panel, hit Network and Internet, hit Network and Sharing center, then look and see if any of your connections say Microsoft Loopback Adapter under it. If it does, right click it and hit disable. This will not effect any settings or the performance of your PC.

6. The final, and most uncommon solution, is to try a winsock reset, and flush your DNS Cache. This is VERY uncommon but it's worth a shot. This will really only happen if you're returning from a long break from maple. This happens when the Nexon IP address changed, making your DNS Cache outdated. To do this go start, and use the search bar to type CMD. Right click CMD and run as Administrator. Type in "ipconfig/flushdns" without the quotes and hit enter. Next type "netsh winsock reset" (yes, space.)
without the quotes and hit enter. Close CMD and afterwards, your need to reboot.

[*][b]Corrupted Patch Error[/b]

Whenever something happens with your internet/computer during the process of patching Maplestory, it can often corrupt the files being downloaded. So whenever you start Maplestory again, it claims: "an error has occurred, you must download the new version", and redirects you to the official Nexon Site.
Most people just redownload Maplestory unknowingly, but it's really simple to fix this without the enormous hassle of redownloading/installing this giant 6GB game.

1st Solution:
Desktop~> TaskManager> Processes> find/click Maplestory.exe> "End Process"
Once finished, restart maplestory. You can either use the site, or gamelauncher. But before you start that patch, Make sure This time and from now on, there are no interruptions, and do it with ALL active programs off. I recommend restarting modem/router and then patching.

2nd Solution: Restart Computer.

3rd Solution:
Disable "Loopback Adapter"
1. Go to the start menu and type/search for "Device Manager"
2. A box should pop up, so look for "network adapters" and click on the arrow on the left
3. More stuff should pop up now, so look for "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" and double click it.
4. Another box should pop up now click on the "Drivers" tab and disable it
And if this doesn't work, try disabling your virus protection/firewall.

This is an official legitimate solution list from a Nexon Game Master, which I've copied and pasted directly for you to benefit from.

1) Close any extra applications before starting the game as they may
interfere with our game clients. If you do not feel comfortable
turning off your firewall or antivirus, we suggest configuring them
appropriately to allow the game client to run.

2) Run a Virus/Spyware scan on your system to make sure that it is
clean. Malicious programs can interfere with the game and
compromise your account.

3) Please make sure that you have DirectX 9.0c or better and that
your video card drivers are up to date. More information about
directx can be found in our "Game Download" section at
Maplestory.Nexon.net

4) Please make sure that Windows allows the execution of the game
client. To verify this, click on your Start menu, Control Panel,
Performance and Maintenance (if applicable) and then double-click
on System. Select the Advanced tab and click settings in the
performance section. Once there, select the Data Execution
Prevention tab and make sure that the game client is added if the
second option is selected. Also make sure to click Apply and Ok if
you make any changes.

5) If all the above solutions do not resolve the issue, I suggest that
you re-download the game client and then reinstall it. For best
results, I recommend that you delete the folder the game is in and
any other related files or icons before you reinstall the game. You
can download the game client from our "Game Download" Section
at www.nexon.net/

For MapleStory you might also try:
A) If you have problems with the patcher, we suggest downloading
our manual patcher from our "GameDownload" section at http://maplestory.nexon.net/
B) If all you see is a black screen or you get disconnected every time
you enter the game, browse to your MapleStory folder and run the
"Setup.exe". You will be prompted with a question. Click NO and the
setup will run through various frequencies and attempt to find one
that works for your monitor. When you see the MapleStory image
during the test, press ALT-H to notify the setup that you are able to
see it. Outdated video drivers can also cause this; refer to #3.
C) If you have Windows Vista / Windows 7, right click on your
MapleStory icon (not the desktop shortcut) and select properties.
Once in the properties, click on the compatibility tab, check the box
that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" select
Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop down menu and click
Apply. For best results, make sure to log on your computer as an
administrator. If that does not work, then when your computer
prompts you with a message saying that MapleStory and the
Windows 7 operating system have some known compatibility issues,
you are given the choice to "look for solutions online" or "run
program". Click "run program", and this should allow you to play
MapleStory with no further issues. While this solution will help
MapleStory function under Windows Vista/ Windows 7, please
remember that it is still not fully compatible.

your system and character and server he/she is on, and any error
messages you got.
