Will the Gtx 970 see any sort of price drop?

Hey guys, I'm building a computer in the middle of June and to my knowledge that's around the time the R9 300 series cards should be released. Rumors are saying that most of the cards are rebrands of the 200 series cards with only the high end cards showing major changes and use of HBM. I've never really looked at card prices when newer cards were released so I don't really know what to expect.

My dilemma is that if I buy the GTX 970 today or tomorrow latest, I can get The Witcher 3 and the new Batman game for free. That's $120 worth of games. But if the 300 series will show significant improvement for the mid ranged cards and offer a better deal than what Nvidia is offering currently, I'd be willing to go with them.

Basically, I don't want to wait for the 300 series to come out only to be disappointed and end up buying a GTX 970 and not getting the free games. What would you guys recommend doing?

Also if anyone knows, when do the codes you receive for the games expire? To my understanding the offer is up until the 31st of May and that the codes expire towards the end of July but if someone knows otherwise, please let me know!

Thanks guys!

I wouldn't really count the two games as a $120 value. The Witcher has already been on sale for lower and I would imagine it's going to be at least 20% off during the steam sale (I'd imagine 33% to be honest).

Wait until tomorrow night or whenever the GTX 980 Ti is announced if you want to make the move soon.

Wait until June 16th.

Wait until August or September.

This will be more generalised for all gpu's not just the gtx970. When nvidia/amd make a new gpu they make a reference card, the board and cooling will be very basic, they then send it to companies like Asus and sapphire where they then take those gpu's and depending on the company they will change the components on the board, most will even change the board itself, with all round better parts and much much better cooling. The difference between say a high end 970 and a low end 970 can be as much as 10fps and overall cooler temperatures. For nividia gpu's the evga ones come with superclocked which are factory overclocked which is really good, with good cooling, gigabit have 3 fans which helps with cooling but can be a bit louder. For amd cards sapphire vapor-x and tri-x I'd say are the best, great cooling. The main difference between cards is cooling, as gpu's now have auto self overclocking bassed on temps and usage, a cooler gpu will overclock higher.
Tlr if you go nividia get evga, gigabit. For amd go sapphire, gigabit or Asus
So just depends what you want to use it for too. Wait on potential hype for best outlook or get a card that'll run for a longwhile in addition to free games lol they'll both be futureproof for a while

What resolution display are you going to be using? If it's 1080p, the 970 should be powerful enough to run any game on the highest settings, so any more powerful graphics card would be pointless and you should just go with the 970 because of the 2 free games
