Interview today

Got an interview for a second job today. As a 911 dispatcher for an ambulance company. If I don't get this job which idk I don't think I am going too. I am going right over to the Army recruiters office and gonna enlist. I wanna go in as a Combat Medic.

So lets discuss my very rash decision! Any of you ever made life changing decisions on a whim?

@bingbongbor idk what you mean A combat medic is a soldier. He is right on the front lines with infantry. Only difference he is a medic and will be providing emergency medical care. A lot more to the job than just infantry. Which imo is a lot better because anyone can pick up a gun and shoot. It takes a lot more to drop an ET tube, hook up an ECG read the rhythm right, start a line, give meds, start cpr, etc, etc, etc. Medic is a whole different ball park.

@lettherebefradd it really is lol. I can't complain since it will pretty much guarantee me a spot on a Fire Department.

@waynee if your talking about civilian pay as an EMT and Military pay it depends on your rank. As an E2 you will be making a little less than a civilian EMT-B with no over time.
At least here where I live. Since Emt's around here start at 11-13. There are other factors to include in your military pay. Such as if you are deployed to an active battle field you get tax free pay as well as an extra 225 a month. So if your in Afghan your getting tax free pay. So that usually will out shine any EMT-Basic pay. Although a civilian medic starts at around 15-17 (mind you it is a lot more schooling than the military is willing to train a combat medic) So you can't be a civilian medic just because you was a medic in the army.

@ninjaxglare thanks! Appreciate the support.

@waynee here in the US its 4 years active duty 2 years reserve 2 years inactive. Or you can do 6 years reserve and 2 years inactive but initially its a 8 year contract for either one. I plan on going active duty since its only 4 years active duty. They let you re-enlist if you wish though after the 4 years.

@Deciduous how and why is it gross? As a combat medic I will have the opportunity to save fellow US soldiers lives as well as other civilians.

@taisuke Fire Departments are pretty stable. Although where I live with out Vet status its hard to get on a department. Hence why I am gonna join. Serve my 4 years come out and get on a department.
@taisuke I had originally planned on going for my medic... but there is no point. You go to school for 1-2 years depending on the medic program to get crap pay. I know its not about the money but not only is it crap pay the job is NOT a secure job. If you work for a private 911 company that is. Something bad happens on a call and bam your dropped like a hot potato. I worked for a busy 911 system as an EMT and still am currently certified. If I go back to school its gonna be to be a LPN.

@doutei I will be fine stop being over dramatic.
Yea the pay is crap. Nothing you can do nowadays without going to grad school or getting a nursing degree if you want a stable job/pay.

I worked as a Emt for clinical hours and it's really life changing what parameds do.. If you like that kind of field, you should try being a Paramedic? But army medic sounds good, and it comes with many perks.
